Bell & Ross Watches Now Available For Purchase Online In America

Front-runner in e-commerce innovation for the luxury watch industry, Bell & Ross has opened its e-Boutique doors to US customers. Almost a year ago Bell & Ross opened up their e-commerce platform to European customers looking to buy the high-end watch brand's timepiece online. Now, as of late September 2010, customers in the US receive the ability to buy Bell & Ross watches and accessories online - direct from Bell & Ross.

At this time, most luxury watch brands do not allow online sales. Bell & Ross' approach to this was to sell online themselves, and use their retailer network for order fulfillment purposes. A few years ago it would have been heresy to suggest to major European brands to sell watches online. Now you can enjoy e-commerce solutions for brand such as Cartier, Longines, Bell & Ross, and more. Payment options at this time are only credit card (so you better be able to put $5,000 or more on your card in a single day). According to Bell & Ross, the US e-commerce model is the same that is being used in Europe - so it goes to show that the model Bell & Ross was experimenting with in Europe worked out well.

Superfish Launches Window Shopper Tool

superfish

Superfish is a new program that helps you window shop, your computer monitor replacing the need to actually leave your house and stand in front of an actual window. And, you know, walk.

It works somewhat like CoolIris: you download the Superfish software, and when you go to any one of a ton of online stores – literally, it works all over the web, including Yahoo Shopping and Google – a "See Similar" icon will appear over enabled items. In the pic above, we went to Nordstrom, clicked to window shop for the red pump in the corner, the Pelle Moda Syreta Pump, and Superfish pulled up a host of other options from which to choose. If we had preferred the Naughty Monkey Women's Fiesta Pump (and we don't, for a number of reasons), all we needed to do was click to go to Amazon and purchase it. Superfish also gives you the flexibility of removing styles and colors you don't like. We eliminated that Naughty Monkey pump and styles like it, and they were replaced by other pumps in other virtual windows.

Superfish is new so you will stumble on the occasional WTF, such as when we went to Nordstroms and searched for similar white sport jackets, and were shown jewel-encrusted pendants. And it does launch a lot of new windows on install and a new window any time you click on a one of the links to see a similar item. Other than that, it's a fine way to start comparison shopping if you're genuinely sick of having to leave your bed to get what you want.

New Condo Site Offer Unique Auction Idea

Online condo buying takes a new turn with iBidcondo, an online property auction where properties are sold without reserve prices and where the bulk of the auction proceeds are donated to a registered charity of your choice. It works very differently than a traditional auction. Instead of using a starting or reserve price, it offers a limited number of "virtual auction seats" which are sold until a minimum price is reached. The average auction seat price is $100 and the number of seats sold will be determined by the property's list price For example, a $400,000 dollar priced property will have 4,000 seats sold at $100 per seat. A specific auction only happens once all seats have been sold. Once the seats are sold then an auction tales place with the sale price determined purely by the bidders. Because the sale of the seats covers the price of the property, iBidcondo is able to donate net proceeds of the winning bid to the winning bidder's nominated charity.

The first featured auctions on iBidcondo will be 64 condos at Star Riverside, in Austin, Texas which are selling for $690,000 requiring 6900 $100 seats to be purchased.

ELuxury Says Farewell To Paper Catalogs

The common wisdom used to be that in order to sell luxury products you need a thick glossy catalog with glamour shots of the merchandise on heavyweight paper. But today with the growing push toward green measures companies are finding that the beautiful catalogs can be a business liability. ELuxury.com is the latest business to ditch the catalog. They have announced they are replacing the 270,000 catalogs they send out each year with more comprehensive style look books online.

Amazon To Start Selling Wine

Amazon has pretty well established itself as one of the best (if not the best) online place to buy, well, anything and everything -- except for wine. Until now.

The online wine business is a tricky one, and in recent years many a good business effort has 'gone under' as a result. Amazon's specific plans for wine sales are a little fuzzy at this point, all we know is that they're going to "build an entirely new selection from the ground up" and that they plan to add both wine and beer to a small pilot grocery delivery service running out of Seattle. I think it sounds really convenient, good luck to them.

50 Cent's Lamborghini on eBay

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos, Auctions, Celebrity Shopping

I really don't understand the appeal of selling big name items online -- isn't eBay largely for bargain hunters? But obviously there are plenty of people who don't share my views, as demonstrated by how well this 2005 Lamborghini Murcielago, rumored to be owned by rapper 50 cent, is doing. The auction ends soon and as of writing this post there are 15 bidders and it's currently at $310,000. 50 isn't actually mentioned in the auction, but based on this YouTube video it sure looks like he's the mysterious "celebrity owner."

Teen Buys PS2 on eBay and Gets a Box Stuffed with $90,000 in Cash

Well here's one way to get rich quick: order from the same eBay seller this kid did in the UK. A teen recently won an auction for a PS2 for £95 that was supposed to come with 2 games. He got the console but instead of the games the box was stuffed with £44,000 (or just over $90,000) in cash. The kids parents alerted police, who have confiscated the money and are holding it while the situation is investigated.

eBay was quoted as saying the contents of the box are "somewhat unusual." Only somewhat? I need to do more online shopping.

Porsche Cayenne Limo on eBay -- Act Fast!

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Looking to buy a car? And not just any car, but a Porsche Cayenne Limo? Well then eBay is the place for you!

...seriously?

I have heard of the occasional car shopper browsing and bidding religiously through the eBay auto section waiting for that "once in a lifetime bargain," but eBay didn't make it's way to the top of the internet charts by selling cars. So why on earth would somebody choose to it to sell their Porsche? I honestly can't even guess what a car like that is really worth, but I bet it's a good deal more than the current bid (as I write this post) of $55,000. No wonder the reserve hasn't been met.

So do you think any of these bidders bothered to actually go see the car in person? Or is somebody just willing to shell over $55,000 sight unseen? I bet they're just fooling around, knowing that without meeting the reserve the bids won't win.

How embarrassing for that poor Porsche.

Will Car Buying Go Virtual?

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

According to the company Leadpile.com in a press release, more and more luxury car buying is going online. The company has an interest in the issue because they sell luxury cars via the internet, though they do make some strong points in their argument. Luxury car buyers are looking for stylish vehicles that offer comfort and convenience, and car dealerships could not be considered to be as convenient as shopping from your computer at home. The question is really whether the shoppers will miss the interaction and attention at upscale dealerships, which, in some locations, can rival the level of service received at posh salons.

With buyers who prize both comfort and convenience, it would make sense that they would put the comforts of being pampered at a high-class dealership above the convenience of shopping online. If convenience alone was the issue, they might not hold out for a luxury car in the first place.
