Watch The Election At An Omni Hotel

This year's election night is guaranteed to be a historic event. The Omni hotels are offering a haven for those who want to watch the returns in a crowd. The hotels will be turning their lobbies and lounges into election night headquarters. From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Omni's "Election Night Returns!" events will have festive red, white and blue displays and Fox and CNN on multiple large-screen TVs. The hotels will have an election themed menu featuring burgers, nachos, red and blue cocktails and of course, a slice of all-American apple pie. You can also sign up for a drawing for a return weekend stay in the Presidential Suite.

Hotels Turning Lobbies Into Cocktail Bars and Cafes

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels, Services

In a capitalistic market like ours in the U.S. competition encourages industries to try new directions to attract more consumers. The hotel market is no different -- Marriott, Wyndham, Omni, etc. -- they are transforming lobbies into cozy cafes and enticing lounges offering guests a new experience without having to leave the premises. With such amenities as Wi-Fi, appetizers with international flair and cozy leather chairs surrounding posh fireplace settings, travelers no longer have to seek out options away from their lodging. I find this especially appealing as I tend to travel alone and feel a bit sheepish about sitting in the restaurant all alone. Pitiful I know.

Omni Sofa

Designer Karin Rashid came up with the modular Omni Sofa, envisioning a seating arrangement where friends could gather in a comfortable, intimate way to chat and hang out. Of course, because the five pieces are separate, they can be put into any arrangement, even set up around the house as five separate chairs. If you are committed to separating the pieces, they can be ordered individually as opposed to in a set.

Don't be put off by the color. In addition to hot pink, it comes in a wide array of colors, including white, black, chocolate brown, violet, dark red, slate grey and blue, as well as many others. It is also available in ultrasuede, doro suede and fabric upholstery. Price, as pictured in pink ultrasuede: $16,200.

More Smelly Hotels

We first saw this at the Westin with the white tea scent that many of you found so beguiling. Now other hotels are following suit with their own signature scents. UPI reports that the Sheraton has new  fig, bergamot, jasmine and freesia scent and that their Four Points hotels use apple cinnamon for a homey approach. The Omni chain has chosen the clean scent of lemongrass and green tea for their lobbies. The scent is just part of Omni's new Sensation offerings which include the Sensation Bar, a minbar that includes a moleskine notebook, deck of cards, CD, mojito jelly beans, pomegranate lip balm and a lavender pillow mist.
