RSVIP: Women's Wear Daily Toasts 100th Anniversary at Cipriani 42nd Street

Buckle your seat belts, and get ready to clink Bellini flutes with over 1,000 fashionistas. On Tuesday, November 2, WWD, Women's Wear Daily, America's fashion bible, invited their rather extensive and starry inner circle to Cipriani 42nd Street to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the daily publication, including the designing Olsen twins, right.

The drama began that morning at 5:30 a.m., when a 40-ton semi braked at the New York venue to unload original art by John Galliano. After much head-scratching, the elephantine signed canvas-cum-ballgown had to be removed from the stretcher and rolled to make it fit through the doors of the palatial former bank building. Lord knows how the Jeep Grand Wagoneer with faux wooden paneling, auction item lot 22202, with black watch seats designed by Tommy Hilfiger, rolled inside.

But by 6:00 p.m., a forest of fall foliage had taken its place in tall vases papered with the pages of WWD. And the vintage Jeep was parked at the center of a half-acre carpet. A shower of umbrellas decorated with a decoupage of fashion news cascaded down from the 80-foot-high ceiling.

Men and women in white linen jackets soon began taking coats and yet another crisp team passed hors d'oeuvres: croque-monsieur, porcini in phyllo, American caviar, crab canapé, and later, coffee mini éclairs.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen Working On A Jewelry Line

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were once tween moguls but just because they are all grown up that doesn't mean their dealmaking days are done. The pair will be collaborating with jewelry designer Robert Lee Morris on a licensed jewelry line. The collection will be named Robert Lee Morris for Elizabeth and James. Elizabeth and James, named for the Olsens's siblings, is their contemporary fashion line. The jewelry line will be more than 80 pieces with an urban flair including metal cuffs, turquoise beading and designs with daggers and crosses. The pieces will arrive in Intermix stores this fall and will retail from $65 to $700.

So Rich They Can Afford to Look Poor

There is apparently a point at which some excessively rich individuals decide to do away with decent standards of dress altogether. They are literally so loaded they can afford to look homeless; their rags become a sort of reverse status symbol. In fact, as author Paul Fussell noted in Class: A Guide Through the American Status System, shabby clothes "advertise how much of conventional dignity [the upper classes] can afford to throw away. The wearing of clothes excessively new or excessively neat and clean suggests that your social circumstances are not entirely secure."

We'd like to think that's the reason behind the appearance of the celebs on Nerve's new list of the "Top 10 Rich People Who Look Poor." It would certainly seem to be for notoriously-underdressed billionaire Condé Nast owner Si Newhouse, who clocks in at # 7. But we think it's more than likely that the Olsen Twins (#6), Britney Spears (#3) and Amy Winehouse (#1), who's reportedly worth $20 million, are actually just slobs. Check out the full list here.

The Row by Ashley Olsen

The Olsen twins already have their own fashion line for younger girls at Wal-Mart and they aged-up their image a bit by modeling for designers earlier this year. Now, Ashley Olsen is planning to launch her own designer line of clothing, called The Row at some point in the not-too-distant future, as indicated by the fact that she appeared in a piece of her own design over the weekend: the cropped tartan jacket, pictured. We will have to wait to see whether the girls' taste for shapeless, heavy clothes carries into the line and onto the runway. Anyone else wonder why Mary Kate doesn't seem to be joining in the venture?

The Olsen Twins Model For Badgley Mischka

In the latest mix of celebrity and high-end fashion, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen are modeling for Badgley Mischka. The tiny twins will appear in the ad campaign which will be in April fashion magazines.  Gilles Bensimon shot the girls in their fancy glam garb in the presidential suite of the St. Regis hotel. WWD reports that the girls are also fans of the line and each has ordered six dresses from the designers. The girls look lovely but posed as they are in this hotel hallway they remind me of the ghost twins from the Shining. Eerie.
