The Olivia Harris Studded Chain Clutch is a sassy little bag with a lot of style.

It's all about the details. Fashion is a statement, and simplicity doesn't always capture what we want to say. Sometimes, we feel less like a sleek black tote and more like a washed black leather clutch with a detachable part-chain strap and four artful smatterings of gold studs. That's just the way it is.

This attractive, complicated rocker-chic bag is 10"W X 6"H X just ¼"D. Flat bags like this are usually huge, so it's nice to see a small one -- perfect for stashing in your suitcase for a change-of-purse. It dresses up or down and is one of those unusual clutches that looks really good with its 19½" strap. The strap adds toughness, rather than appearing to be an afterthought.

We just can't seem to get away from the studs this season and here's another incarnation of the trend: the Studded Ball Hobo by Olivia Harris. Supple lambskin leather (in beige or black) with lots of pockets (big slip pockets on front and back, zip pockets on the front) makes for a useful, trendy, and comfy hobo handbag. Brass chains adorn the leather shoulder strap and hanging leather tassel with logo tag, and the interior is lined in twill. Magnetic button closure and tonal topstitching round out the features. $495

Olivia Harris Plaque Zip Tote, Handbag of the Day

I've been waiting for this rusty orange color to become popular again. It is one of my favorite hues, but it seems to have had a difficult time overcoming the gaudy reputation it earned in the 1970's. Less shocking than red and brighter than brown, the color just glows with warmth and understated style. On this tote, that color is the focus, with very little hardware to distract from the gorgeous distressed leather. Inside, the bag is lined in similarly-hued canvas and is divided into two compartments with a center zip pocket. Measuring 14"W x 12"H x 7"D, it has an 8" strap drop and sells for $545.
