Historic Oklahoma Mansion To Be Sold In Sheriff's Sale

An Oklahoma home that once belonged to department store tycoon John A. Brown and his wife, Della, is set to be auctioned at a sheriff's sale. NewsOk reports that the three-story, 12,000-square-foot mansion in Nichols Hills was last owned by developer Jim Meyer and his wife, Robin. It was on the market for $3.65 million in 2008 but the sheriff's notice for the December 2 auction shows the appraised value at $2 million.

The mansion was built in 1929 and according to a posting on Trulia it has seven bedrooms and is over 12,700 square feet. Images from that listing show a lavish home with gilded coffered ceilings in the dining room. The mansion was featured as the Symphony Designers Show House in 2003. Brown's department store was once a fixture in downtown Oklahoma City.
