Jason Richardson Re-Lists His Oakland Home For Less

Filed under: Estates, Celebrity Shopping, Sports

jason richardsonMove Trends brought my attention to another in the long list of professional sports slow sellers. We first mentioned Jason Richardson's Oakland home back in 2008. Richardson, also known as J-Rich, is a slam-dunking NBA player who has been bounced around the league a bit. He bought the home in 2007 when he was still playing for the Golden State Warriors but since then he's been a Charlotte Bobcat, a Phoenix Sun and currently plays for the Orlando Magic.

He bought the home for $2.78 million in 2007 according to records on PropertyShark.com. The three-story home on .32 acres is up in the hills and has city views. There are five bedrooms, a game room, kitchen with an adjacent breakfast room and sun-splashed outdoor terraces. The home hit the market in 2008 for $3.1 million but now, the home is on the market for a please-buy-me price of $1.95 million.

moonlight over mojave maynard dixonWe cover a lot of the big auction houses here on Luxist but smaller auction houses offer quite a few treasures too. Clars, an estate auctioneer based in Oakland, California is having what is anticipated to be the largest and most important sale in their more than 60-year history on May 15 and 16. The sale comprises lots that span 400 years and come from four major estates and other important consigners. The sale includes 17th and 18th century furnishings and art from both contemporary artists and Old Masters. Clars is representing the Lane & Jenkins Trust of San Francisco, the Frank Hinman Estate of San Francisco, the Dr. Sydney Widrow Estate of Hawaii and Carmel; and the Dr. Lawrence Loftus Estate, also of Carmel.

Two of the key lots in the furniture category are a circa-1650 Charles II small Oyster-style walnut inlaid chest from the Widrow Estate (estimate: $10,000 to $15,000) and a circa-1730 George II walnut veneered chest on chest. (estimate: $8,000 to $12,000). A monumental Dirk Van Erp Studios vase will be offered, as well as a 1799 George III celestial floor standing globe estimated at $5,000 to $7,000. The painting shown at right "Moonrise over the Mojave" by Maynard Dixon (Californian, 1875-1946) is estimated at $150,000 to $250,000. The contemporary category will include original prints by Roberto Matta, Joan Miro and Pablo Picasso. Coming from the Widrow Estate will be a framed silver gelatin photograph by Ansel Easton Adams (Californian, 1902-1984) titled "Clearing Winter Storm, Yosemite," estimated at $40,000 to $60,000.

Clars sales end with fine jewelry. The top lot in the jewelry category is a diamond ring mounted in platinum, center set with one round brilliant cut diamond weighing 9 carats (GIA stated M color and SI1 clarity) surrounded by 52 round diamonds weighing 1.10 carats. (estimate $90,000 to $120,000)

Approximately 2,000 lots in total will be offered over the course of this two-day event and internet live bidding will be provided by LiveAuctioneers.com.

Billy Joe Armstrong In Oakland, Estate of the Day

billy joe armstrongIt first hit the market a few weeks ago but a home belonging to Billy Joe Armstrong, the lead singer of punk-styled band Green Day just popped up on my radar thanks to a mention in the San Francisco Chronicle. The eyeliner-wearing singer has an elegant abode in the Upper Rockridge area of Oakland, California. The five-bedroom Mediterranean home was designed for Armstrong by architect Mark Becker and built in 1998.

The double lot on over half an acre includes a pool, pool house and a professional music studio. The home is very restrained, decorated with soft comfortable furnishings in warm earth tones. A well-done family home lived in by Armstrong, his wife Adrienne and their two children. Adrienne has an interest in design and decor ad the home is well-styled with some gently exotic touches. The Chronicle reports that the walls of one room are covered with a collection of fliers from Green Day's early days but alas that's not in the listing pics. This home is listed at $4.85 million.

The Luxist Awards is now underway. Submit your nominations now for "Best in Décor".

Rockingham Estate, Estate of the Day

I spend a lot of time looking at San Francisco real estate, but sometimes I forget to check out Oakland. This seven-bedroom modern home is full of great lines and big windows. The home's light-filled kitchen has all the expected names: Poggenpohl cabinets, Miele and Gaggeneau appliances. There are limestone floors and 18 zone radiant heat. The home is 9,000 square feet and it has a five bridge view. The home also has a home theater and a fitness room. A spiral staircase links three floors. There is also a separate two-bedroom apartment with two baths and a kitchen. The only thing missing is a lavish pool.

Maybe what's most amazing about the house is that, according to Lydia over at the Women Building Wealth blog, the owners bought it in 2001 for $750,000. it is now listed at $6,388,000. I wonder how much money the owners put into this home.
