$150,000 "Christmas Key to the City" Package

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels, Services

Too many people out there dread the holidays in part because spending so much time with family is exhausting, but maybe you'd feel differently if you were enjoying the Buckingham Hotel's "Christmas Key to the City" package with your loved ones. A little luxury (or in this case a LOT of luxury) makes everything better, right? The package includes the following:
  • A gold and diamond Christmas key to New York City
  • Transportation to events in a private Christmas-themed Amtrak car and a white vintage Rolls-Royce
  • A penthouse suite at the Buckingham Hotel decked out in Christmas decor, including a Swarovski crystal star tree topper keepsake and cashmere pj's for everyone.
  • Individual green iPods loaded with classic Christmas tunes.

A Pricey Pad For The Jolie-Pitts

When money is no object it's always interesting to see what people choose as far as living arrangements go, and obviously money is no object for Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. So what did they choose? According to The New York Post they've landed at The Waldorf Towers in New York City. The 6,000 sq ft luxury apartment includes 6 bedrooms, an enormous kitchen, multiple terraces with sweeping views of the city, room service, maid service, and a 24hr concierge.

And perhaps more valuable to the couple than anything is the fact that the new $100,000 per month pad is close to both the United Nations (where Jolie is a goodwill ambassador) and their son Maddox's private French school.

The $51 Margarita

When you think of environments where you might find an outrageously expensive drink a western theme with beef brisket and bull-riding probably doesn't come to mind. But then all kinds of strange things happen in New York, and the restaurant located in Rockefeller Center called Johnny Utah's is no exception. That expensive drink is a $51 margarita called the Vault, and it's made with Herradura Suprema tequila, grilled lime juice, and agave syrup. Seems pretty simple, but then usually simple is best.

Tom Ford's New York Store

Earlier this month the Tom Ford New York store opened its doors for the first time, located on Madison Avenue. Tom Ford himself was present giving personal tours of the 1930's inspired shop full of not only the designer's menswear creations but also decor from his own collections, such as beaver-skin rugs and Lucio Fontana artwork. According to Tom the store's appeal will be based on "exceptional service and immaculate clothes." Other features available to you while you shop include the fact that everything is customizable (from clothes to fragrances), a wet bar, and if you get hungry during your appointment? Well there's lunch delivered by a maid or butler.

Sotheby's NY Building for Sale

RFR Holding, the company that owns the building at 1334 York Avenue, has just put it up for sale. We wouldn't necessarily be that concerned with commercial real estate, but this particular building happens to be home to the New York headquarters of Sotheby's and is easily one of the most prestigious auction rooms in the world. The asking price is $500 million.

In 2000, the building was bought by Sotheby's, which spent approximately $140 million dollars above and beyond the $11 million purchase price to have Architects Kohn Pedersen Fox expand the building into a 10-floor, 470,000-sq. ft. "ethereal box," with glass facades in "various degrees of transparency." Sotheby's sold the building to RFR in 2002 for $175 million, retaining the option of a lease of the space for at least 40 years. The lease arrangement, presumably, will not change when the next owners come in.

I [heart] LA

It seems like a lot of people, celebrities in particular, are very bi-coastal these days. We know that they must have more of an affinity for New York or LA. To let everyone know about your preference, check out these textured disc pendants by Zoe Chicco. They feature scripted "I [heart] NY" or "I [heart] LA" on sterling silver ($150), 10k gold ($330) or 14k gold ($420). All the discs are 1 1/2-inches in diameter and are suspended from 18-inch chains, in silver or 14K gold, as appropriate. A necklace like this would also make a beautiful graduation gift for a daughter/niece/etc who is going off to college in, or departing from, one of these cities.
