Rougemont, North Carolina, Estate of the Day

Today's estate was brought to my attention by Luxist reader Kelly who was curious about this huge estate in the small town of Rougemont, North Carolina. She reports that she has flown over and driven by this huge property and was curious about it. Me too! Especially after I did some digging and saw it in a gallery of the hottest homes in North Carolina compiled by Businessweek last year. The curious thing it that the approximately 15,000 square foot home on over 200 acres was listed at $7.763 million. Flash forward to now and it's listed at $15.5 million making it one of the pricier homes in the state and far outpacing anything else in Rougemont. A year ago it was still under construction but is now freshly completed. It has an impressive long entry that takes you past ponds and over a stone bridge before reaching the home's circular driveway and large fountain at the top of the hill. There are five bedrooms and five baths with four additional half baths. The property includes a pool which is flanked by a huge pool house and what looks to be an open pavilion for entertaining. The pictures on this one don't give a lot of clue as to what's inside but the few shots we do have reveal the beige luxury that seems pretty typical of other new large homes that we've seen lately. If anyone has any info on this home please feel free to add it in the comments.

Outer Banks, Estate Of The Day

Today's estate comes from Luxist reader Joshua who directed me to this very expensive home located on North Carolina's Outer Banks area. The home is a large family compound with eight bedrooms and over 13,000 square feet of space with 9,000 square feet of decks. The back yard looks like a resort with a pool, tiki bar and plenty of lounging space. The decor could use a bit of an update. And the price, $15.9 million seems high for a home not directly on the waterfront. However, I suspect the pictures don't do this one justice.

Denny Hamlin In North Carolina, Estate of the Day

Filed under: Estates, Celebrity Shopping, Sports

The Real Estalker Mama already ably skewered this one but let's take a look at the pictures for the home owned by Nascar driver Denny Hamlin. Hamin, a young driver on the circuit, has a rather large bachelor pad on Lake Norman in Cornelius, North Carolina. Hamlin bought the five-bedroom mansion in 2006 for $3.4 million and is said to have spent another $1 million decorating it to its current gaudy standard. The home includes lots of single guy-friendly features like a large home gym , bar area, and a dramatic red and black billiards room as well as huge plasma televisions mounted improbably high above fireplaces. It is clear that a lot of money was spent here on touches like the shiny golden home theater room, gourmet kitchen with adjoining domed breakfast room and the master bed and bath which looks a bit like a suite at the Bellagio. The property includes a pool/spa area, outdoor fireplace, basketball court, boat house and a long dock with a boat lift. This home is listed at $4.9 million.

Tiger Woods may be taking some time off the PGA circuit but he's certainly not taking it easy, like other golfers before him such as Greg Norman and Jack Nicklaus, he's working on his golf course empire. Deluge Air To Fly Out Of Wilmington

It's a strange phenomenon but the more big airlines that shut their doors, the more smaller private jet services seem to open up. The latest is Deluge Air (an odd name, in my opinion). Deluge Air plans to offer flights from Wilmington, North Carolina to northern New Jersey, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Nassau, Bahamas. They plan to begin booking flights Aug. 4 on two seven-seat Learjet 35 aircraft, with flights taking off about a week later. The airline will operate out of ISO Aero Service, one of two fixed-base operators, or FBOs, on the grounds of Wilmington International Airport. The service is on deman, customers will pay for private jet service by individual seat instead of booking the entire aircraft and the flights will be operated by private jet companies out of Raleigh and Miami, with Deluge as the sales agent.

According to an article in the Star News Online
, fares between Wilmington and Nassau booked seven days or more in advance will be $2,047 each way, with an additional $400 charge for flights booked less than a week in advance. Fares to Teterboro Airport will be $1,075 each way, and $1,398 when not booked at least seven days in advance.

The Encore 5, Five Condos For Five Hobbies

A new condo tower in Charlotte, North Carolina promise some of the priciest and most distinctive penthouses in the city. The 20-story Encore condo tower includes the Encore 5 – five 7,000-square-foot units priced from $4.5 million to $5.5 million which are pitched at five specific types of buyers: the art collector, the food enthusiast, the wine connoisseur, the technology buff and the consummate entertainer. So far, condos in the area haven't sold at this price but the developer behind the Encore believes that these five penthouses can sell because they are each aimed at that one special person who will love the idea. Each of the five penthouses will be specifically designed to incorporate the interests of the penthouse buyer.

The Encore project will preserve the 81-year old Carolina Theatre at North Tryon and East Sixth streets and offers three floors of office space, a restaurant level, theater lounge floor, an amenities floor for residents and a 1,400-seat auditorium for movies, live entertainment, charitable benefits and corporate events. The developer Jim Donnelly of Pursuit Group Charlotte told the Charlotte Observer that he has "contracts on nine units priced from $1.75 million to $5.5 million" and hopes to break ground this summer.

Adamsleigh, Estate of the Day

Adamsleigh is one of the largest and most famous homes in Greensboro, North Carolina. Designed by Winston-Salem based Luther Lashmit. Adamsleigh, was built for High Point textile baron John Hampton Adams and is on 13.5 acres. Italian artisans were commissioned to create the molded plaster ceiling details, hand-carved woodwork, tilework and murals. The four-story staircase is said to be forged from one large piece of wrought iron. The den has wood-paneled walls with a secret entrance to a spiral staircase. The home has 22 rooms including 10 bedrooms. It's a beautiful home and one obviously in need of a lot of work but I hope whoever buys it manages to save those delicious Art Deco bathrooms and doesn't just plop in giant jacuzzi tubs. At $4.8 million it's the most expensive listing in the area.

Ivy House and Cottage, Estate of the Day

Despite the fact that I once lived on in a condo on a golf course I tend not to be a fan of golf course homes. This one however, is quite charming. it is located in the Knollwood area of Southern Pines, North Carolina, nestled midway between the picturesque town of Southern Pines and the Village of Pinehurst, bracketed by the Donald Ross golf courses at Mid-Pines and Pine Needles. The Ivy Cottage was built in 1925 as a part of architect Aymar Embery's Mid-Pines Inn and golf resort. It sits on a hilltop overlooking the 10th and 11th holes of Mid-Pines, with views of three additional fairways. The Ivy House and Cottage underwent a massive renovation in 1995, turning the former Mid-Pines lodging quarters back into a residence.

The main house received a new cottage style entry that opens to a spacious kitchen. The kitchen opens to a breakfast room with French doors and a wall of windows with access to expansive tiered decking on the southwest side of the house. The home also has a formal dining room which overlooks the terraced deck and a brick floored Carolina/family room opens to a brick patio. A downstairs guest suite has anew tiled full bath and a dressing room. The second floor master bedroom has a master bath with Jacuzzi tub and there is an additional second floor bedroom. The guest house has been newly renovated and includes views of the 11th hole tee box and 10th fairway beyond. Glass French doors lead to a sun filled bedroom with fireplace and newly tiled full bath. Downstairs is a roomy bedroom/sitting area, also with full bath. A cottage style garden is between the main house and guest-house on one side and a view of the golf course on the other. This home is listed at $845,000.
