Nixon x Bergdorf Goodman Mellor Limited Edition Watch

Nixon watches is teaming up with famous New York City retailer Bergdorf Goodman for a special limited edition timepiece. Nixon is quite scant on all the details, but the limited edition (unclear how many pieces) will be available exclusively in NYC at Bergdorf Goodman and have a quaint retro style. The design is apparently part of a collaboration between the two.

In a steel case, the Mellor watch is probably about 40mm wide or so and will come in two dial colors. Inside the watch is an ETA 2824-2 automatic movement. It will have a sapphire crystal, and be matched with a crocodile leather strap. Quite decent in style, these Nixon Mellor limited edition watches should not be available at a price of $995.

Nixon x Gumball Watch

nixon x gumball watch

Nixon keeps a decidedly different profile from the usual array of high-end luxury wristwatches we cover, appealing less to the stock broker than to his skater son. But this year the brand has teamed up with the organizers of one of the most hyped-up cross-country rally of exotic automobiles to present a series of special editions under the Nixon x Gumball banner.

The Rubber Player watch pictured above comes in matte black silicon with gold accents on the caseback, crown and dial, and sells for a modest $200. It's joined by a more exclusive version of the company's 51-30 wristwatch which will only be provided to rally participants, as well as special edition "e Whip" and "e Wire" headphones made especially for the event at $60 and $75, respectively. They're available at Nixon retailers along the rally's route through London, Amsterdam, Boston, Montreal, Toronto and New York, among others. This year's Gumball 3000 kicks off in London on May 1.

Travel & Leisure Design Awards 2010

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels, Timepieces / Watches, By Design

16 categories of travel, leisure, fun, shopping, and fashion - all judged and summed up leaving just one winner per category. This year's Travel & Leisure Design Awards yielded some surprise winners, but that is to be expected from the eclectic mix of judges ranging fashion designer and artists, to architects and restaurateurs. Available in the March issue of the magazine, the results are also posted on their website (link above).

I attended the award event here in San Francisco recently where the magazine's principals were able to discuss the publication's new designs awards tradition. The venue was perfect, being located at the still new California Academy of Sciences Museum - a worthy design award winner itself.

Categories ranged from the usual fare such as best large hotel (winner was Motel 6 - yes that motel 6, apparently they have upped their game) and automobile (Ford Fusion Hybrid), but also has some interesting categories such as best retail space (Derek Lam in New York City) and best transportation (the ritzy first class cabin suites aboard Swiss International Airlines).
