Rumson, New Jersey, Estate of the Day

It's far from being the most expensive home in Rumson, New Jersey but there's just something appealing about it. The home was built in the 1980s and is tucked onto a quiet street on around 1.5 acres. The two-story custom home has large palladium windows and a great room with ceiling skylights, a marble fireplace and a bar. The kitchen is a recent remodel with granite countertops and newer appliances. The exterior includes a brick-covered patio and a fenced-in gunite pool. The home has four bedrooms total and it looks like the renovations haven't hit the bedrooms yet although there is a hugely lavish master bath. It is listed at $2.25 million and for once Zillow's zestimate seems to be on target, they have it at $2.086 million.

The Tarn, New Jersey, Estate of the Day

A reader, Dan, who saw the Maine retreat estate of the day sent me a link to a similar property which is less acreage but much closer to urban life. The Tarn is on 22 acres in Mount Olive Township in New Jersey and is about an hour's drive from New York City. The wooded property includes a manmade four-acre lake and a recreation field. The lake is ed by the South Branch of the Raritan River and can be controlled by raising or lowering a large redwood gate at the start of the headrace. There is an old stone building which has a recreation room with a fireplace, a workshop and a laundry area. A stairway from the recreation room leads to the rear entrance of a modern, recently constructed residence which overlooks the lake. The two-bedroom home has a large kitchen and entertaining area. The lake is stocked with fish and has an island and a waterfall and the surrounding land is also home to wildlife. This home is listed at $2.4 million. Pictures after the jump and in the gallery below.

Hidden Brook, Estate of the Day

Today's estate is another question of taste. The exterior style is a bit of a hodgepodge. The info says it was built in 1993 (designed by Lawrence Stern) but the style seems vintage 1970s to me. It sits on nearly eight acres and has a approximately 12,000 square feet of space. The five-bedroom home has a lot of special features including eight-foot bronze entry doors, a living room with a floating ceiling and a family room that has an onyx fireplace. Other rooms include a media room with acoustical paneling, a library with a two-story-high curved wall of windows and a tall marble fireplace. There is also a private guest suite that has a kitchenette, living room, bedroom and full bath. One of the major charms of this home is its indoor pool area which also includes a sauna, exercise room and changing area on a lower level.  The grounds include winding paths and the hidden brook from which the property gets its name. All this and it is listed at $4.45 million. Not a bad price for the square footage and land offered but the style of the house may make it a tricky sell. Interior shots and poor choices in furnishings after the jump.

This striking home in Edgewater, New Jersey was designed seven years ago by Adam Tihany, who is famous for his designs for hotels and restaurants (he worked on Per Se and Aureole). This home sits on the banks of the Hudson River in a private waterfront community and has views of  New York City and the George Washington Bridge from every room and three decks.  The home has three bedrooms and an open floorplan. It is listed at an even $10 million. After the jump, pictures of the spacious, light-filled interior.
