Michel Rolland Creates The Rolland Collection Wines
Filed under: Wine
Famed Bordeaux negociant Michel Rolland is striking out on his own and will no longer sell wines through the traditional system. Rolland, who has a reputation of being one of the best winemakers in the world and was feature prominently in the wine documentary, Mondovino, is teaming up with his son-in-law David Lesage, who will be managing director of the new company, called the Rolland Collection. Decanter reports that there will be ten properties total, all of which are either owned by Rolland and his wife or are part of a joint venture. There are five Bordeaux properties, two in Argentina, two in South Africa and one in Spain. There will be no minimum order for the wines. Canadian wine writer David Lawrason met with Rolland and tasted the wines. As he reports in Toronto Life, he found the wines delicious if a bit highly priced.
