Green Wine Awards

For grape growers, vino viticulturists, syrah sippers and green gods and goddesses, the day has come when wineries both domestic and foreign can compete for glory to bring us, the consumer, the best eco-friendly wines available. The Green Wine Competition has chosen its champions from over 271 entries originating in six states and eleven foreign countries within four categories: Class I - certified biodynamically grown; Class II - organic; Class III - transitional & third party certified; Class IV - natural (international imports only). With 153 award-winning bottles, broken up into gold, silver and bronze medals, and a shopping list to make your next selection of wine easier, the search for a fantastic bottle of green wine is bound to be simpler. (And in case you are wondering who took home the most medals, Bonterra Vineyards blew the competition away).

Mango Wood Turned Stool

The Mango Wood Turned Stool can serve many purposes, working equally well as a table, stool, or simply as an artistic element. Hand-turned on a lathe by artisans in Thailand, the unique beauty and character of the mango wood is left to show naturally by leaving the wood untreated, which means no two pieces are alike. I love it and think it's beautiful, although due its mix of natural energy and modern appeal working it into a room's decor would take a skilled vision I think. Its hand-crafted nature means measurements may vary slightly, but are generally 13"W x 18"H and it weighs about 25lbs. $368 from Gaiam.

LAVANILA Vanilla Fragrances

LAVANILA is a fragrance line with the unusual claim of being a healthy fragrance. The products are made with essential oils, natural botanicals and have "super antioxidant technology" that is supposed to help your skin stay young and rejuvenated, unlike the alcohols in other perfumes. Only at Sephora, the line has three fragrances: Vanilla, Vanilla Blossom and Vanilla Grapefruit. All retail for $56 for 1.7-oz.

Tree Bed

Designer Shawn Lovell certainly gets points for creativity when it comes to the design of her Tree Bed. It has one of the most unique canopies that I've seen, using the idea of a canopy of branches from a forest indoors, creating a second ceiling in the bedroom. Where the branches come together is what appears to be a nest, is suspended above the center of the bed. It's a work of art, but would you want it in your room or would you rather stick to a more traditional design?

Outdoor Tiles Inspired by Nature

I love the idea of outdoor tiles that actually interact with the outdoors, as opposed to those that just crush whatever piece of nature they are placed upon. These tiles, which seem to be from Promise Design, actually have grooves in them that allow grass to grow up through the tile, allowing for a styled burst of color that complements the flowers etched in the stone.

It is too bad that fall has set in already. Even though these tiles only need grass to have their full effect and could certainly be put out over the winter, it's hard to think of decorating the yard when you don't really want to spend much time outside.

Piasa Room Divider

Made with sustainably harvested wood tiles that are woven together with cotton rope, the Piasa Room Divider is environmentally friendly, as well as gorgeous to look at. The screens were designed by Emiliano Godoy and all are hand made to your specifications, whether you want a screen that is 6 feet long or 30 feet. The sample shown here is about 3 meters long, which gives you a good feel for the size of the panels. It is available in beech (pictured), pine or maple. Price: $6,040 and up, depending on size.

Sky Ceilings

In an ideal world, everyone would have at least one skylight looking out into a beautiful, clear expanse of space. As it is, we have weather, pollution and sometimes a second-story or upstairs apartment getting in the way of our would-be view. The Sky Factory's Sky Ceilings solve all of those problems. They are photographs of real skies on special opaque tiles that can be mounted over lights to give a natural, luminous effect. The lighting systems provide "daylight-balanced light," which the body will actually recognize as "natural." Hundreds of ultra-high resolution images are available to choose from, so you can open up your space to the great outdoors - or at least feel that way. Prices vary depending on design, size and lighting options.

Dalia Koss Red Garnet and Pearl Necklace

Dalia Koss is more than passionate about jewelry and has been since childhood. She channels her love of her craft into each unique, handmade piece she designs, all of which feature naturally beautiful stones and materials. The Red Garnet Tahitian Pearl Necklace is a stunning, one-of-a-kind piece that features not only garnet beads and large, natural pearls, but is accented with shimmering abalone. It is 20-in. long, but can be adjusted to achieve the best fit. The necklace, like many of Koss's pieces, is an excellent choice for anyone looking for something more exotic, with more presence than, for example, a typical jeweled pendant. Price: $870.

Ryan Green Stallion Belt

The Stallion Belt by Ryan Green has just enough of a western edge to pair well with cowboy boots without being too "western." Adding it to a dressier look can also have a softening effect, adding a natural accent. The 1.5-inch thick belt sits around the hips and has a very unique buckle with a horse design laser engraved onto natural cherry wood. The buckle is removable and can be changed to other belts, as well. The belt itself comes in both black and brown. Price: $45.

Deer Path Farms

Deer Path Farms is a community of custom-built homes in Hudson, Massachusetts. Instead of  following the cookie-cutter blue prints of many housing developments, each single-family unit in the complex is designed to have unique and spacious interiors, filled with natural light and a comfortable, luxurious feel. Though there are other homes in the complex, each building gives the feeling of being private, perhaps in the mountains. The homes feature design points that include floating staircases, 3-story high raised ceilings and ultra-thick walls that let in nothing but light. There are currently 50 homes in the community, which includes a pool and provides full maintenance and cleaning of the grounds, as well as the exteriors of the homes, but Deer Path could have up to 103 homes when full. Homes in the community start at start at $600,000 and can go up to $3 million, depending on what features the buyer wants his/her house to have. A 2-3 bedroom, 2.5 bath, 3,300-sq. foot unit is on the market right now for $895,000.

Christian Louboutin Suede Cork-Heel Slings

Elegant without going over the top, these understated sling-back pumps from Christian Louboutin are a great piece to add to your wardrobe before summer hits. The Suede Cork-Heel Slings are a soft suede in a warm, earthy tobacco brown. The base and heel of the shoe, but not the soles, are made of cork, which gives the pumps a natural, down-to-earth look but keeps them light on your feet. These pumps don't have the same punch as, say, the black Balenciaga platform pumps, but the sky high heels will still ensure that all eyes are on you - not just on your shoes. Price $670.
