Danny Elfman & Tim Burton 25th Anniversary Music Box

December marks 25 years of collaboration between music composer Danny Elfman and film director Tim Burton. The two first worked together on Burton's movie Pee Wee's Big Adventure in 1985 and were fast friends from then on, with Elfman composing the music for all but two of Burton's projects since then. Among Elfman's most famous works are the scores to Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Batman, Batman Returns, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Sleepy Hollow, and Alice in Wonderland.

In celebration of this iconic friendship Warner Bros is releasing a 25th Anniversary Music Box that contains more than 19 hours of music including fan-requested expansions of famous soundtracks and previously unreleased music. The package also includes CD art by Burton, a USB flash drive with MP3s of all the songs, and a DVD featuring an exclusive conversation between Burton and Elfman. The music box will be released this December in a limited edition of 1000 numbered units. $499.99

Christophe Claret Music Box Watch Up For Auction

This has got to be an extremely rare timepiece. I thought the Christophe Claret Dual Tow was the first timepiece the genius watch maker made with his name on it. I guess I was wrong. Looks like a few years back he made timepieces like this. I don't think Claret ever really marketed watches like this as this is the first time I have heard of them. I understand that Claret started his career building incredibly complex minute repeater watches. So a music watch like this music box watch isn't a terrible stretch of the imagination. The dial of the watch almost masks its special function, having a traditional Breguet style dial with the time, a power reserve indicator, and one other indicator.

In 18k rose gold, the watch contains a traditional pin wheel style music box. A very intense mainspring barrel is likely utilized in storing the power needed to play either Strauss' Imperial Waltz, or C. Chaplin's "The Little Bootees -" the two songs available in the cylinder. The music can be played manually, or set to play automatically each hour. Make sure you keep that spring wound! Given that it has two mainspring barrels that aren't connected, winding the watch crown in one direction will wind one spring, while winding it in the opposite direction will wind another. It is unknown what this beautiful watch originally retailed for, but auction estimates have it going for between about $70,000 - $90,000.

This Christophe Claret Music Box watch No. 8 and other watches will be available to bidding during Antiquorum's October 9th auction in Hong Kong.

Mozartkugel Music Box

My favorite kind of Mozartkugel are the chocolate and marzipan candy but this Mozartkugel is pretty nifty too. The simple solid wooden ball is a minimalist music box. Turn the key and the 18-note chime plays if the ball is rolling or standing still. The 92mm wooden ball comes in light beech or dark oak and plays 'Voi che sapete' from 'Marriage of Figaro' by W.A. Mozart. It sells for $69 and comes with the key and a display cradle in a gift box.

Reuge Reverse Music Box

The latest music box from Reuge is called the Reverse because it lets you hide or reveal the music box movement. The movement is set on a pivoting plate and plays three melodies, each lasting 36 seconds from either Chopin, Mozart, Pachelbel, Brahms, Grieg,Tchaikovsky or Chostakovitch . The power reserve lasts 16 minutes. The case is available in either lacquered wood, wenge wood or Corian resin and measures 31x16x7cm. It sells for $4,800.
