Forget handbag of the day, this is perhaps, the handbag of a lifetime. Jewelry designer Mouawad, which has designed some of the jewel-studded bras for Victoria's Secret, has unveiled "The Mouawad 1001 Nights Diamond Purse". The bag is valued at $3.8 million and has claimed the Guinness World Record as the most valuable handbag in the world.

"Just as the tales of Scheherazade have captivated readers with their intricately woven plots of uninhibited passion and daring, so the Mouawad 1001 Nights Diamond Purse is designed to mesmerize with its lavish attention to detail and elaborate workmanship incorporating thousands of diamonds," said Pascal Mouawad, co-guardian of the House of Mouawad.

The heart-shaped purse is made from 18K gold and is covered with 4,517 diamonds (105 yellow, 56 pink and 4,356 colorless) representing a total weight of 381.92 carats. Creating the bag took 10 craftsmen more than 1,000 hours to complete. The Daily Mail reports that the handbag was exhibited at the Doha Jewelry and Watches Exhibition over the weekend.

Kim Kardashian's Latest Jewelry Line

Just how many jewelry lines does one reality television star need? If you are Kim Kardashian the magic number might be three. People says that Kardashian is launching yet another jewelry line, this time with Pascal Mouawad, a man who is no stranger to partnering with celebrities. He also is behind Nicole Ritchie's House of Harlow line and Heidi Klum's line of fine jewelry in addition to creating Victoria's Secret's jewel-covered bras.

Kim Kardashian has already collaborated with her sisters on a jewelry line with Virgins, Saints and Angels and has a line of earrings with Loren Jewels. Her line of costume jewelry, Kim Kardashian's Belle Noel by Pascal Mouawad will launch in January 2011. People, which has sketches of the Honey Hexagon line, reports that the 75-piece line will be sold in department stores, specialty stores and select online stores. Other lines in the collection include Glam Rock, Gold Clusters and Peek-a-Boo. Kardashian has said that the line was inspired by great costume jewelry designs of the 1930s and will include both smaller everyday pieces and more lavish statement jewels. The prices will range from $11-$150.

Malaysian Designer to Debut $30 Million Diamond Dress

Malaysian designer Faisol Abdullah is creating the world's most expensive dress decorated with 751 diamonds from Middle Eastern jeweler Mouawad. The $30 million frock tops Chris Aire's $20 million diamond dress (above) created last year and ties the $30 million diamond bikini in terms of the world's most expensive item of clothing. Abdullah plans to debut the silk and taffeta evening gown, which features a central 70 carat pear-shaped diamond and is dubbed the "Nightingale of Kuala Lumpur," in time for next month's STYLO Fashion festival in the Malaysian capital. Mouawad, which produces Heidi Klum's jewelry line, is a red carpet favorite of Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears.

"Stocks drop, gold is even falling but a diamond is forever," Abdullah tells Reuters. "This is a dress with diamonds. Why go backwards, why can't we go forwards? We are going to the fantastic, but its real. You are getting value for money with these diamonds." "It's a security and insurance nightmare buts it's worth it," adds Antoine Bakhache, head of Mouawad's Asia operations. "It's not throwing $30 million right down the drain, it is an investment for the super-rich." Nancy Yeoh, chief executive of STYLO which commissioned the dress, says they plan to present the garment to royal courts around the world starting with the Middle East, noting, "It's art and there are still enough rich people who would want to buy."

Heidi Klum Jewelry Lawsuit Dropped

Good news for model and Project Runway host Heidi Klum, a federal judge has dismissed a case filed against her and jeweler Mouawad over her jewelry line. Judge Shira A. Scheindlin ordered the case dismissed without prejudice after Mouawad and the plaintiff Van, Cleef & Arpels agreed to "to settle the controversy between them without any admission of liability." The suit had alleged that the jewelry, as shown on Klum at right, copied the quatrefoil design in Van Cleef's Alhambra jewelry.

Nicole Richie Working On A Jewelry Line

Nicole Richie may be a new mom to little Harlow Winter but she isn't slowing down when it comes to new business ventures. Her newest endeavor is launching her own line of costume jewelry. She's working with an artist named Shelley Gibbs and jewelry maker Mouawad (the same company that produces Heidi Klum's jewelry line) and seems really happy with how easy the process has been and how flexible everyone has been in working with her new parental responsibilities.

Richie isn't stopping at jewelry, either. Stay tuned for her new fragrance and children's clothing line coming out soon too.

Heidi Klum Sued For Lack of Originality

Does Van Cleef and Arpels have sole rights to the quatrefoil shape? That seems to be their assertion, the esteemed jewelry company sued German supermodel Heidi Klum's company on Friday, saying that the vintage clover jewelry design she uses in her jewelry (shown in the earrings she is wearing at right) for her company and for Mouawad is copied from from Van Cleef's vintage Alhambra jewelry line. The suit, filed in Manhattan federal court, seeks a relatively modest amount, just $25,000 in damages. It is true that Klum and Van Cleef and Arpels use the same shape in their designs but it's about as original as using a an open heart in jewelry.
