Inspired by French baguette sacs, Marybeth Shaw of Shaw Jelveh Design has designed the Sac à Baguette, a truly sophisticated and eco-friendly way to carry your things.

The attractive sacs are designed for picnics and the market, though you could also use them for other purposes like brunch and coffee -- that handy "baguette quiver" compartment fits a rolled up newspaper quite splendidly, or a bouquet of flowers. The main sac holds six gallons of whatever you're toting, has a zipper pocket for your essentials and has a removable liner for easy cleaning (it zips out). Sturdy leather straps ensure that this bag won't self-destruct, like most cheaply made reusable totes.

The Sac à Baguette comes in three colors named for the cities they call to mind; from left: San Francisco, New York and Rotterdam. A recent survey indicated that Mother's Day spending will be down by 14.7 percent this year. Purchases of electronics, jewelry, books and other items are all expected to fall. And fewer mothers will be taken out for a good meal. It is predicted that spending on dinner and brunch outings will fall 9.6 percent.

For those still planning to take mom out for a meal or even for a weekend there are some great hotel and restaurant packages out there.
