Marc Newson's $39,000 Horizon Watch

Marc Newson's 2008-designed Horizon watch for his company Ikepod might slash your holiday wishlist down to one item -- though you may need two or three holidays to get past the sticker shock. At $39,000 this timepiece is the design geek's impossible dream: signed and numbered by industrial design giant Newson, crafted from platinum and featuring a single-shell case and sapphire front.

It's tricky to ignore the price on this ticker, but consider how quickly Newson's 12 Chop Top tables sold out at last year's Design Miami -- at $170,000 apiece.

In the U.S., the Horizon watch is available at Moss, both online and in its LA or NY stores.

Moss Presents "Bavaria" Collection at Design Miami 2008

Starting December 3, Moss will present Studio Job's latest collection, Bavaria, at this year's Design Miami. Bavaria is the collection of marquetry furnishings, crafted from Indian Rosewood and featuring laser-cut inlays of various country images: barns, horse corrals, silos, farm animals.

The group of pieces is the juxtaposition of age-old marquetry, which cuts veneer in intricate patterns to be placed on furniture or other objects, and modern laser-cutting technique. The sought-after furniture has been produced in a limited edition of six pieces per model, exclusive to Moss. The Rosewood bench, above, will be available through Moss, price upon request.

Studio Job was last in the news at Christie's Post-war and Contemporary Art sale, where an ebony and laser-cut maple bench from its Perished Collection reached a final price of over $95,000. The auction house said the piece "yield[ed] an expressionistic symbolism superimposed upon an absurdist, semifunctional monumentalism."

Exactly.

Globe-Trotter Celebrates 110th Anniversary with Bulletproof Bag

Globe-Trotter, the British luggage designer which since 1897 has furnished luxury carryalls for the likes of Queen Elizabeth II and Winston Churchill, will soon add another formidable piece to its collection: a bulletproof case designed by Ross Lovegrove. Weighing in at under three pounds, it's the lightest rigid suitcase of its kind. Even before this news, Globe-Trotter was getting around: the luggage maker recently collaborated with J.Crew to craft limited edition pieces for its new luggage collection, and it showed up last year in the Conran Shop with a special rolling fashion statement.

The Lovegrove piece will make its debut during New York Fashion Week in September, posing from the windows at Moss. Until then, you can still get the perennial classic, the Centenary trolley suitcase in orange (designed by hand from Vulcan Fibre and lined in silk) at Moss for $1,580. The Lovegrove designed Air Cabin, by comparison, will retail for $3,500.

Your New Designer Piggy Bank

Designer Harry Allen crafted his resin cast gold finished piggy bank as part of his series, Reality. And in our current economic climate, everyone wants to look more penny pincher than spendthrift, whether you are truly concerned about your investments or have conscientiously decided to be a happy person just one-Birkin-fewer. With this piece on a shelf somewhere, your frugal side makes its subtle yet cheeky appearance and your charitable side does too: Allen will donate 5% of proceeds to The Humane Society. Available in gold or chrome finish at Moss online for $195.

Soho Mews Partners With Moss

I first wrote about the Soho Mews, a two-building residential project in New York City designed by architects Gwathmey Siegel & Associates in SoHo's largest open buildable site last fall. Now the developer United American Land has partnered with the popular design emporium Moss to offer residents some unique benefits. Residents will receive a 5% rebate in the form of a Moss store credit for most purchases at Moss, free delivery of Moss purchases to Soho Mews residences, and access to the design expertise available at Moss.

It's an interesting twist on the standard building feature of having designer services available but does a 5% savings matter to those who are paying from $2.4 million to $11 million for a home? The project is expected to be ready for occupancy later this year and the 68 residences offer high ceilings, designer kitchens, marble master bathrooms and plenty of glass. The buildings share 6,000 square feet of greenery-soho's largest private park, attended parking, a state-of-the art fitness center, a public art gallery curated by Soho's Art Production Fund, concierge service by Luxury Attaché and benefits at wine bar/restaurant Centovini, Moss and the carpet purveyors of Fort Street Studio. New pictures from the interior design are in the gallery below.

Over 60,000 crystals adorn the Topshop dress worn by Kate Moss to the Swarovski Fashon Rocks fashion show and concert. The dress, which is now up for auction, is similar to a 1920's Flapper style cocktail length dress in Moss's personal collection and features hand-beaded Swarovski crystals in shades of silver, gray, and green. The auction started October 19th and runs through the 28th with proceeds going towards the Princes' Trust Charity. No word yet on where bidding stands but the dress is estimated with a retail value around £40,000.
