Classic Morgan Trikes Making a Comeback

It may be hard to remember now that Morgan is moving ahead with the retro-futuristic EvaGT, but the British sportscar company got its start way back when with trikes. In fact that's what made them famous, but while its original wood-frame cars may still be available, three-wheelers haven't been part of the company's range since 1952. But all that could change in the near future.

According to reports from across the pond, Morgan is eager to take a stab at bringing the trikes that put it on the map back out from the annals of history. Last year, a Seattle-based company called Liberty Motors secured the license from Morgan to continue building those original trikes, under the name Ace and powering them with a Harley-Davidson V-twin engine.

Apparently impressed by the results, Morgan is reportedly in the process of reviving the trike themselves, even going so far as to redesign the original JAP engines used on the original and re-acquiring the license from Liberty. Sounds promising for aficionados of the original design, but for those who can't wait to get back to the future, Liberty Motors would undoubtedly be glad to help fill the void, starting at $48,000.

Morgan EvaGT to Debut at Pebble Beach

The words "new" and "Morgan" don't often appear in the same sentence. After all, the British automaker has earned its reputation by producing decidedly old-school, retro sportscars for the past several decades. But nostalgia alone isn't enough for Morgan to get by on, so they're determined to update their range with a new model every couple of years. And this is the first glimpse of what's coming up next.

Called the EvaGT, the new Morgan is set to be unveiled this August at Pebble Beach. The rendering you see above is the only indication of the car's shape released so far, but the EvaGT is expected to incorporate 2+2 seating, aluminum construction and a twin-turbo 3-liter straight six with 306 horsepower sourced from BMW. Morgan to Debut New 2+2 Concept in August at Pebble Beach

As if we didn't have enough reasons to look forward to the Pebble Beach Concours this August – beautiful weather, beautiful machinery and beautiful scenery, to name but a few – news comes by way of Autocar in the U.K. that Morgan plans to debut a new 2+2 concept at the famed event on the California coast.

Details on the new model are, as you might expect at this early stage in the game, rather hard to come by. Apparently, though, the new car is meant to preview a production model that Morgan hopes to put into production in 2012 or 2013. No word on on the drivetrain, though we'd expect some sort of modern BMW powerplant, but we're told it will slot somewhere below the brand's range-topping Aero.

Hublot Aero Bang Morgan Watch For Limited Run AeroMax Car

I like it when a limited edition watch partners with a limited edition car. In this case Hublot piggybacks on the lovely new limited run of 100 Morgan AeroMax cars. Most of the time, watches branded to cars have nothing in common with the car. That seems to be the case again in this instance, but at least you have the Morgan logo attached to a grill-like surface on the Aero Bang Morgan's dial. Again, on the rear of the watch, an decoration made specially for the Aero Bang Morgan celebrates the motorcar brand and limited edition vehicle.

Morgan is a British maker of retro-styled sports cars. While limited in production and not cheap, their prices are often much more reasonable than today's multiple hundreds of thousands of dollars exotic fare. Their newest AeroMax is a perfect edition to the line up, and utterly British. Last I heard, Morgan was using BMW engines, while the Hublot watch has a HUB44 SQ calibre automatic movement inside. Materials making up the watch are plentiful and sometimes as exotic as the AeroMax car. Nothing less than titanium, tungsten, ceramic, Kevlar, steel, and sapphire crystal make up the complex construction of the watch. At 44.5mm wide, it is a handsome statement worn in conjunction with the car, or otherwise. Interestingly enough, the limited edition watch will have 500 pieces, 400 more than the Morgan AeroMax car itself.
