The Killing of a Piggy Bank

killing a piggy bank
This delicate little piggy bank vase is unexpectedly attractive considering it's meant to represent the ushering in of digital currency and the extinction of physical money, paused at the exact moment the hammer hits the piggy. I suspect in this recession some will also be inspired to see it as representative of the need to break into savings to survive. The Killing of a Piggy Bank is the result of a collaboration between Marcel Wanders and Royal Delft for Moooi, and is the latest addition to the Delft Blue Collection of porcelain vases. $1,288

Foam Bowl

A bowl that looks like a big white sponge -- everybody wants one! Designed by Marcel Wanders and made by Moooi, the idea for the Foam Bowl started as an experiment and turned into something beautiful. Created by soaking a sponge in liquid porcelain, letting it dry, and then firing it hot enough to burn the sponge away, the result is a sponge "skeleton," or a bowl that looks like it's made of foam. Pure white and porous, you'll want to be careful how much you handle it and what (if anything) you put in it. 2.25" x 8.25", $220.

Moooi Horse Lamp by Front

Lets just all remember that we don't have to necessarily love something to write a post on it. This Horse Lamp designed by Front for Moooi is interior lighting for die-hard animal lovers only. I normally would fit into that group, and I especially love horses, but I guess I like my animals a little more natural looking (i.e. not wearing lampshades on their heads). Not to mention, this horse has a strange stressed-out expression on his face that would make it hard to relax around.

But, all that being said, it is a beautiful animal. Maybe in the right setting...? $4389.

V.I.P. Chair

Made by Moooi and designed by Marcel Wanders, the V.I.P. Chair really puts users up on a pedestal. It features flared legs (the "chair with flares") that offer maximum support to the user, while at the same time allowing for some flexibility that a completely solid base would not. It has a steel frame with a soft, upholstered finish and is shaped to offer the maximum comfort to anyone who sits in it. The designer seems to suggest that the chair could work equally well in a conference room at the office or in a home dining room. It measures 31"H x 24 ½"W x 21"D. Price: $1,680.
