Mikimoto Ups The Donation On Everything Is Possible With Hope Collection

Each year Mikimoto does a series of jewelry pieces for breast cancer. This year Mikimoto has stepped up their actions, promising to donate 50 percent of all sales from the Everything is Possible with Hope collection to the Young Survival Coalition. The Young Survival Coalition (YSC) is an international, non-profit network of breast cancer survivors and supporters dedicated to addressing the unique needs of young women affected by breast cancer. The piece shown above, features 8mm pink freshwater cultured pearls and a clasp with .20 ct of diamonds in a 19-inch, 18K white gold chain. It sells for $2,200.

Ocean Ripple Necklace

Convertible jewelry hits the high end in this piece from Mikimoto from the Elements of Life: Ocean collection. The Ocean Ripple pendant can be worn three ways. It has an Akoya cultured pearl topped by a .04 carat diamond which can be worn alone or with a white gold ring set with a spectrum of graduated shades of blue sapphires meant to invoke the rippling beauty of the ocean in the sunlight. The sapphire pendant can also be worn separately. The pendant is on a 18" white gold chain. This necklace sell for $4,050.

Mikimoto Baroque Pearl Necklace

Mikimoto, the company that brought the perfectly round, cultured pearls to the worldwide marketplace also sells beautiful baroques. Unlike a classic strand which is celebrated for its symmetry and for the careful matching of its individual pearls, a baroque strand is more interesting for its differences. Each pearl has a unique lumpy shape. Some people consider baroque pearls ugly but one benefit of the bumps and bulges is that the luster of the pearls reflects the light differently on each shape. These South Sea cultured pearls are produced by much larger oysters in the warm waters of the South Seas, in Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines and it often takes years to gather enough large baroque pearls for a necklace. This 18-inch strand has an 18k gold and 0.01ct diamond ball Mikimoto clasp and sells for $44,000.

The Goddess Necklace

Last year Mikimoto unveiled a million-dollar necklace. This year's one-of-a-kind pearl creation is called The Goddess,. The Goddess is 18" long and is comprised of 25 perfectly matched, perfectly round South Sea White cultured pearls ranging in size from 17.0 mm to 19.6 mm. The pearls have a unique luster, a faint silvery pink orient with a mirror-like reflection which is rare on pearls of this size, Mikimoto says it took over a decade to assemble this necklace. The custom-designed diamond clasp totals almost 7 carats with pear-shaped diamonds radiating from a marquise-cut center stone, all mounted in platinum. The Goddess necklace is priced at $1,600,000 and it is available at the Mikimoto flagship boutique at 730 Fifth Avenue, New York.

Sarah Jessica Parker Singlehandedly Bringing Back Pearls?

Sarah Jessica Parker has been wearing a lot of pearls lately. In the Sex and the City movie, her character Carrie Bradshaw is seen wearing opera-length pearls in many different scenes. The 32-inch strand of 8.5-millimeter akoya cultured pearls is showcased in a scene is which she climbs into bed with "Mr. Big" wearing the pearls with undies and a tank top. The necklace is from Mikimoto and sells for $11,900. Sarah Jessica Parker has also been sporting pearls in her real life showing up at several press events this season in both white and black pearl necklaces in various lengths.

You can buy your mother Mikimoto pearls and help fund breast cancer support this Mother's Day. Mikimoto donates 20% of proceeds from Everything is Possible With Hope, a special collection inspired by the pink ribbon, to the Young Survival Coalition. The YSC is a non-profit network of breast cancer survivors and supporters dedicated to young women, pushing for an effective breast cancer screening tool for women under 40 and research and support for this younger population of breast cancer survivors.

Mikimoto $1 Million Pearl Necklace

Mikimoto has created a $1 million South Sea cultured pearl necklace to dazzle one lucky recipient this holiday season. The lustrous strand features 27 rare AAA quality cultured pearls which measure 5.06 x 17.24 mm in diameter and took over 10 years to complette. The strand is finished with an art deco oval clasp with 11.92 carats of diamonds.

Mikimoto And Yohji Yamamoto Show Off Stormy Weather

I knew that when Mikimoto jewelers teamed up with designer Yohji Yamamoto the results would be interesting and they don't disappoint. The end result is a 29-piece collection called Stormy Weather. As you might suspect from the name, the line is moody and innovative with pieces that evoke both rough weather and a sort of celestial feeling. A necklace features pearls nearly enclosed in with gold discs with different sized openings that correspond to the phases of the moon. The line was unveiled in Paris last week and the International Herald Tribune's Suzy Menkes calls it a " powerful mix of elegance and edge." The pieces range in price from a $1,100 swirling silver cuff to a the moon necklace which sells for $55,000. The line will be available at Yohji Yamamoto and Mikimoto stores starting in November. Mikimoto's Couleur Soleil Highlights Golden Pearls

Mikimoto's latest collection, the Couleur Soleil focuses on the sunny color of golden South Sea pearls. The collection combines pearls, diamonds with gold for a beautiful glow. The piece includes a pearl and diamond choker with rays of golden and white South Sea pearls and Akoya pearls mingled with white and yellow diamonds which is worth over $350,000. There is also a draped necklace of yellow gold hung with pearls which glide along the chain and can be converted to a bracelet which sells for nearly $82,000. The most ingenious piece in my opinion is this delicate ear cuff. The gold ear-shaped piece curves around the ear and the golden South Sea pearls and Akoya pearls dangle off 18K yellow gold snake chains so that the move with each turn of your head. This quirky ingenious piece sells for around $35,000.The other two pieces are after the jump.

Mikimoto Love Knot Earrings

I've written about Mikimoto's designs by Giovanna Broggian before. The designer puts a whole new spin on classic pearls. Now, for your pre-Valentine's Day shopping you can meet the designer and check out the latest collections, Eden and Delfina which ornament diamonds and precious gems with pearls. Designer Lisa Broggian will be appearing at both the New York and Costa Mesa, California Mikimoto boutiques in early February. The earrings shown here are Love Knots that feature South Sea cultured pearls and blue sapphires and sell for $10,000.

Mikimoto Breast Cancer Jewelry

Another luxury way to honor Breast Cancer Awareness month, comes from Mikimoto. They have created new designs for their Everything Is Possible With Hope line which has raised thousands of dollars for charity. The 2006 collection includes an Akoya cultured pearl bracelet and necklace strung with pink silk thread with a ribbon charm in 18K rose gold and finished with a Mikimoto clasp in 18k rose gold and two Akoya cultured pearl and pink sapphire pins. This is the first time that Mikimoto has used a color other than that of the pearls being strung and the pearls give off a subtle pink hue. The 18K white gold ribbon lapel pins include pearls as well as pink sapphires. Prices start at $400 and 5% of the sales goes to breast cancer charities.
