Famous Chef's Diner Fare Draws Raves

Designers do cheaper lines for fast fashion and some chefs are now getting into faster food. One of the world's best chefs wants to open a pizza place and now another, English chef Heston Blumenthal, famous for his molecular gastronomy stylings at The Fat Duck has had sucess with a menu for Little Chef, a chain of roadside restaurants in England.

The trial menu, launched at one restaurant in Blumenthal's hometown of Tyneside, has been so popular that the company is planning to roll it out to the chain's 175 restaurants. The Guardian linked to the PDF last November which describes dishes that span a range from standard diner fare like macaroni and cheese and hamburgers to fancier options like braised ox cheeks and coq au vin most for prices under £10.

Tasting menu's don't come cheap, but the range of flavors and the chance to experience more of the chef's repertoire is worth it for many. Some of the best restaurants in the world have gone to serving nothing but tasting menus, Charlie Trotter's in Chicago for example, and others simply offer them as a luxury for those who can afford it and want something a little different. So where to go if you're really looking to drop some cash and enjoy the great tastes of the best tasting menus? Well the single most expensive tasting menu in the world belongs to L'Arpege in Paris and runs $466, with the second and third most expensive also going to restaurants in Paris: Alain Ducasse Plaza Athenee ($437), and Guy Savoy ($402). Masa, in NYC, comes in at 4th with their tasting menu priced at $400 for 25 courses.

Westin Hotels Put SuperFoods On The Menu

The Westin hotels have done a lot to promote the relaxing and healthful aspects of their hotels by creating special aromatherapy scents, workout rooms and special suites devoted to relaxation. Now they are creating SuperFoods focused menus for their guests. They have partnered up with the publishers of the SuperFoodsRx books to create a diet rich in antioxidants and phytonutrients. Offerings include banana oatmeal brulé, green-tea-infused salmon and molten dark chocolate cake. They key to the SuperFoodsRx philosophy is combining certain foods for maximum nutrition. The initiative is currently rolling out in 25 Westin hotels in the U.S. and Canada and will go global in 2008.
