Most Expensive Zip Codes: 98039, Estate of the Day

For the next couple of weeks we will be checking out some homes in the most expensive zip codes in the United States, up today, 98039 . This zip code covers the town of Medina, Washington. This town is located opposite Seattle and is home to Bill Gates who as you might expect has a huge house. This area is mostly full of single family homes and embraces a wide variety of architectural styles from the traditional to more modern homes like today's example. For a more traditional home check out this previous estate of the day.

This home was built by Washington firm Bender Chaffey which has created many of the contemporary homes in the area. The five-bedroom home has beautiful wood details and features like moveable walls. The home's large windows highlight views of Lake Washington. There is a full indoor pool with a separate spa and a fireplace, media room, sauna, steam shower and a dock with three slips and two lifts. The home is smart wired and has security cameras. This home is listed at $8,680,000.

The Gables at Fairweather Bay, Estate of the Day

Even though today's estate is located in Medina, Washington it has a crisp and clean look that puts me in mind of a New England fall. You could shoot an LL Bean catalog in a place like this. The classic home was created by Tom Bosworth, the former Dean of Architecture at the University of Washington. The home has white wood walls and ceilings which serve to highlight the beautiful aged wood floors which are fir planks from an old warehouse. The home sits on lake Washington and has an atrium, two-story library, screening room, a kayak house and a separate recreational facility that includes a bowling alley. It is listed at $17 million. After the jump, farmhouse deluxe.

Medina Waterfront Estate

The Medina Waterfront Estate is 30,000-square feet of one of the most luxurious homes on the west coast. Located just outside of Seattle, the home sits on 5.42 waterfront acres, complete with a 114-foot dock and floatplane lift for easy parking. The house itself, which looks like a European manor house, has 6 bedrooms and its own website, though they're only interested in serious buyers. Given that the asking price is $53 million, with a 10% down payment and a monthly mortgage of $301,000, there probably is a limited supply of serious buyers, which helps to explain why the house has been on the market since the 1990s.
