MCM Nuovo Notte Metallic Chain Strap Clutch, Handbag of the Day

MCM Nuovo Notte Metallic Chain Strap ClutchThe MCM Nuovo Notte Metallic Chain Strap Clutch is a darling purse in a fresh, demure color.

We love navy blue, and when it's dusky and metallic, and accentuated with nickel hardware, we love it even more. This MCM bag features metallic Italian leather and a removable chain strap so that you can hand-carry it to finer events. The bag is 10½"W X 7"H X 2"D and has wide pleats, studded leather tabs for the chain and a beautiful, customary silver MCM logo.

A color like navy blue still works for monochrome and color family pairing, so pair this with a blue or purple dress for optimum effect. It's the kind of bag that will look so pretty in your closet you'll want to wear it every day ... so invest in blue.

The MCM Nuovo Notte Metallic Chain Strap Clutch is available from Saks Fifth Avenue for $725.00.

MCM North/South Leather Hobo, Handbag of the Day

MCM North/South Leather HoboThe MCM North/South Leather Hobo is fabulous bag with a versatile look.

Somehow, MCM managed to make this bag look as though it was accidentally atomically reassembled incorrectly. This tumultuous, jumbled, twisted style is artful and deliberate, and delightfully expensive-looking without being too flashy.

This suede-lined work of buttery black leather is 17"W X 12"H X 5"D, and includes an inside zipper pocket, three open pockets and one magnetic flap pocket, as well as a magnetic closure. We love the bright silvery hardware and long tassel which add to the bag's unusual mystique.

This bag is like an M.C. Escher; I feel like I could stare at it all day and not quite figure it out.

The MCM North/South Leather Hobo is available from Saks Fifth Avenue for $995.00.

MCM at The Plaza

MCM display at the new Plaza boutique!
Whether you've never heard of the MCM brand or you remember it from the 80's, MCM is making a new start in the United States.

The brand left the U.S. a number of years ago due to hush-hush reasons having to do with their previous owner, Michael Cromer, but stayed alive and well in Europe and Asia (you've seen these designs -- think supermodels' luggage). They have since changed their name from Michael Cromer Munich to Mode Creation Munich, and are running under new leadership: one of the most famous businesswomen in Asia, Sung-Joo Kim.

As the Plaza in New York City completed their renovations this winter, MCM moved in their first American shop in decades. We headed right down to 58th and Fifth Avenue to check out the exciting new store, which has already been visited by Heidi Klum and Ivanka Trump!

MCM Varsity Jacket Coming Soon...

We've all seen the return of the leg-warmers and the 80's brightly colored jewelry but now another icon of that decade is back. The varsity jacket revived by MCM, famous back in the day for their loud emblems and gold leather, is coming soon. Based in Munich their collection also includes beautiful, luxury handbags in a variety of eye-popping styles. Although the website currently has the autumn/winter collection up perhaps this comeback jacket will return in the spring line of 2008.
