Maserati to Celebrate in Geneva with Special Quattroporte Awards Edition

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

maserati quattroporte

The Maserati Quattroporte has accrued a number of awards over the past several years, and with good reason. The four-door Italian exotic is, to our eyes at least, a stylish and exciting alternative to the usual crop of German and Japanese luxury sedans. So to celebrate the Quattroporte's laudable success, Maserati is preparing to unveil the special Awards Edition at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.

Based on the top-of-the-line Quattrporte Sport GT S, the Awards Edition gets an exclusive Quarzo Fuso paint job with burnished brightwork, 20-inch wheels and upgraded Brembo brakes. The interior, meanwhile, bears glove-soft Poltrona Frau leather sears and Alcantara microsuede trim, piano black wood veneers and a number of other special touches.

Maserati Quattroporte Converted into a Hearse

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

When we leave this world, as we're all destined to do at some point, we hope we can do so with style. Whether we're willing to destroy something as graceful as a Maserati Quattrporte to do so, on the other hand, is another question entirely.

For those who simply couldn't bear the thought of riding to their final resting place in a Lincoln or Cadillac, Intercar Modena offers this hearse conversion of a Maserati. The wheelbase has been stretched and the roofline extended to accommodate the grim cargo. But if a Maserati isn't your style, the company offers conversions of everything from Mercedes vans to BMW sidecar motorcycles.

Rare 1953 Maserati Racecar for Sale at $1.95 Million

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

An ultra-rare 1953 Maserati A6 GCS Spyder racecar by Fantuzzi, one of only 52 made, is being offered for sale by California's Fantasy Junction for $1.95 million. Maserati won numerous races with the A6GCS, including the 1953 Mille Miglia (1st and 2nd in class, 3rd Overall), against brutal competition from the Ferrari and Mercedes factory teams. Additionally, the A6GCS had success at the Targa Florio and Pescara, as well as elsewhere in Italy, South America, and in the UK, in addition to several wins in the US. Restored to impeccable mechanical and cosmetic condition, the stunning vehicle recently captured the "Best in Class" and "Most Desirable" awards at the New Hampshire International Speedway Concours D'Elegance.

Cartier Captures Snow Polo World Cup in St. Moritz

The team fielded by famed French jeweler Cartier beat back rivals Brioni, Maserati and Swiss banking house Julius Baer to capture the 26th World Polo Cup on Snow in St. Moritz the other day. 15,000 well-heeled spectators cheered on during the four-day event, culminating in a nail-biting finale where Cartier and Julius Baer were tied 3 - 3 up until the very last minute when Cartier won a penalty shot with only 8 seconds remaining on the clock. A team of seven well-known Swiss star chefs with a combined total of 118 Gault-Millau points catered to the guests on the chic resort's frozen lake where the matches are staged. In snow polo the ponies are shod with special cleated shoes to provide better traction, and the ball is larger, lighter, and painted bright red to accommodate winter conditions.

Alfa Romeo MiTo for Maserati

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

If you've ever had to bring your beloved pet to the veterinarian, you know what it must feel like to drop off the keys to your prized Italian sportscar for service at the garage. But while a pet can't be replaced, it probably eases the separation anxiety to know you're getting something special back in the meantime. That's why Alfa Romeo has prepared a special run of its stylish MiTo hatchback especially for its sister company Maserati.

The special Maserati edition MiTo features Blu Oceano paint, delectable Pelle Frau leather interior, special badging, a 170-horsepower turbocharged engine, and all the top options available in the Alfa Romeo catalog. Only 100 examples are being made and distributed to Maserati dealerships across Europe.

Ferrari recently did the same with a special-edition Fiat 500, and then turned to offer them for public consumption. Alfa and Maserati may choose to do the same, but until then, the only way to get your hands on one is to bring in a GranTurismo or Quattroporte for service.

Maserati CEO Harald Wester Named Head of Alfa Romeo

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Alfa Romeo and Maserati – two of Italy's most storied auto marques – have been more closely integrating over the course of the past several years. But now with the Fiat empire under which both brands lie growing to accomodate Chrysler, Alfa and Maserati are set to cooperate even further following the appointment of Harald J. Wester as chief executive of Alfa Romeo.

Executive reshuffles happen all the time in the auto industry, especially in the Fiat group as of late. But usually a new appointment means the vacation of another. In Wester's case, however, he'll be taking over Alfa Romeo in addition to his role as CEO of Maserati. Not only that, but he'll remain CEO of the Abarth performance brand as well, plus chief technical officer for the entire group.

As with the appointment of Lancia CEO Olivier Francois as head of the Chrysler brand, we can expect Alfa, Maserati and even Abarth to work more closely in the near future, most critically in North America where Maserati has been preparing the ground for Alfa and Abarth to return.

Maserati Announces Pricing for the GranTurismo Convertible

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Call your bank. Call your parents. Call in that fiver you lent to that guy at the bar. Because Maserati has just announced American pricing for their new GranTurismo Convertible, and you're going to need every penny you can scrape together.

Before taxes and other charges, the manufacturer's suggested retail price for the convertible (known as the GranCabrio overseas) comes in at $135,800. Compared to the GranTurismo S coupe, with whose 4.7-liter V8 engine the convertible comes standard, the premium for open-air cruising will set you back $14,300.

Art Basel isn't the only thing taking Miami by storm - dashing designer Duncan Quinn has opened a limited edition pop-up shop in the city's design district that's a shrine to gentlemanly pursuits and fine tailoring. In addition to his full range of Savile Row-inspired menswear the British-born bon vivant's 6,000-sq.-ft. space features a full-sized indoor croquet pitch; a 1962 Maserati 3500GT, one of only 359 made, specially ordered and owned by famed Formula One driver Peter Revson; and a killer collection of vintage Ducati motorbikes, including a 450 Desmo from the 70's, a 350 Desmo, built in 1969 and a 1985 F1 prototype.

There are also limited edition croquet shirts and t-shirts exclusive to the venue; a bespoke lounge with Dormeuil fabrics; an installation of Ruby couture motorcycle helmets from France; Hendrick's Gin cocktails; and more. Famed shoe designer Christian Louboutin, who has his own op-up shop down the block, was their first customer, coming in to buy an outfit for his own opening, while Birmingham band The Twang, who opened the Glastonbury Festival in front of 500,000 people, played a one-off show for the DQ faithful there on Friday night. The shop will be open until Dec. 12th, then once a month for dinners and tastings and otherwise by appointment.

Maserati Launches Exclusive GranTurismo S Special Editions in Abu Dhabi

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

A stock Maserati may be special enough for most of us, but apparently not for the highly lucrative Middle East market. So to answer the call for exclusivity, the Trident marque has announced a new limited edition of its top-of-the-line GranTurismo S coupe.

Decked out in special matte white paint scheme and items from the company's bespoke MC Sport Line, Maserati will only make twelve examples of this special edition: one for each of its dealers in the region, simultaneously commemorating the twelve drivers', constructors' and teams' titles which the Maserati MC12 has accumulated in the FIA GT Championship.

A second run of 11 coupes, with pearl white paint, is planned for the Italian market as well. Unfortunately that's about the extent of the details Maserati has provided. If you have the means and live in the right place, we're sure your local dealership will be glad to provide more, and if you don't, well it's really not applicable anyway, so the rest of us can just sit back and stare.

2009 Frankfurt Auto Show: Maserati GranCabrio

If you're looking for an alternative to the likes of the Bentley Continental GTC, Aston Martin DB9 Volante or BMW 6 Series convertible, Maserati figures they've got just what you're looking for. Called the GranCabrio, it's based on the GranTurismo and was released a couple of weeks ago ahead of its debut last week at the Frankfurt auto show.

Exquisitely crafted with a Ferrari-designed 4.7-liter V8 engine, the GranCabrio offers the longest wheelbase on the market for a true four-seat cabin where many of its competitors are smaller 2+2s. It's been a long time in the making, and is finally here. Click on the thumbnail images below to browse our high-resolution photo gallery from the car's launch in Frankfurt.

Maserati Releases New GranCabrio Ahead of Frankfurt Show

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Italians can do little cars. They can do big GTs. They can do extremely fast supercars. But if you wanted a four-seat convertible to cruise around in what you'd think would be typical Italian style, you had to look elsewhere. Until now, that is, as Maserati has unveiled the first four-seat convertible in its history.

Called the GranCabrio, it's based on the gorgeous GranTurismo, only with the roof replaced by a retractable fabric contraption. The standard engine is the higher-end 4.7-liter V8 from the GranTurismo S, mated to a ZF six-speed automatic transmission. The longest wheelbase on the market should ensure that four passengers can cruise in comfort, and the GranCabrio is set to debut at the upcoming Frankfurt auto show next month.

Lindsay Lohan's Maserati On eBay

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos, Auctions, Celebrity Shopping

Once again one of Lindsay Lohan's cars has wound up on eBay (her Mercedes was on the auction website in 2007). The white Maserati Quattroporte did not belong to Lindsay Lohan but to Dennis DeSantis. Lohan was photographed driving the car and involved it in a fender bender, which TMZ reported that CARFAX does not mention on their report. The 2007 Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT is fully loaded with Brembo brakes, power seats, CD player, rear sunshades, parking sensors, suede headliner, white stitching, GT wheels and tires, sport exhaust, navigation and moon roof. and has just over 25,000 miles on it. Last time I looked bids were over $62,100.

UPDATE: The listing has been pulled. (Thanks, Colin)

Stretched Maserati Quattroporte Limousine for Hire in Florida

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Stretching a stock automobile into a limousine is a precarious venture. So while Mercedes-Benz can take its own E-Class sedan, as it's preparing to do, and turn it into a stretched limo to assuredly polished effect, when others try to do the same, more often than not, the modified vehicle turns out a complete abomination of the original. Take for example this stretched Maserati Quattroporte. Currently under the proprietorship of Florida's Padilla Car Collection, this Italian luxury sports sedan has been lengthened considerably to accommodate ten passengers in high style, but in effect the original's sumptuous lines have been lost along the way. Say what you will about stretched Hummers – which Padilla has in stock, too – but at least their form carries the extension well.
