Marina Bay Sands To Open ArtScience Museum

There is yet another reason to visit the Marina Bay Sands, Singapore's massive resort casino complex., the world's first ArtScience museum. The museum, which will open in February is the latest attraction at the $5.5 billion gambling complex that features celebrity chef restaurants, luxury shopping and the sky park, a park that is 60 stories up and links the resort's three towers. The museum was designed by architect Moshe Safie and is reminiscent of a lotus flower (it's the structure under construction on the left from this picture taken back in April at the time of the opening of the first phase of the project). The ArtScience museum is due to open on Feb 17 at 1:18 p.m., a time chosen by a feng shui master as being auspicious. The museum has 10 "fingers" anchored by a round base in the middle and each finger holds gallery spaces with skylights at the "fingertips." The curved roof of the museum harvests rainwater, sending it to a reflecting pool. There are a total of 21 gallery spaces that will embrace achievements in both art and science. The 60,000 square feet of space will include Leonardo DaVinci's Flying Machine and a celebration of the KongMing lantern, the sky lantern popular in Asia. Traveling exhibitions will change every three to six months.

De Beers Opens Flagship Store At The Marina Bay Sands

Earlier this month I mentioned that Miu Miu opened a store at in Singapore at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. This week another big name had its grand opening at the ultraluxurious resort. The first De Beers flagship store in Singapore opened with 200 of Singapore's elite in attendance to view one-of-a-kind haute jewelry creations especially flown into Singapore for the occasion. François Delage, Global CEO of De Beers Diamond Jewelers, and Tay Liam-Wee, Chairman of Sincere Watch, the Brand's partner in Singapore were joined by one of Asia's top female stars, Karen Mok to cut the ribbon. Mok wore the De Beers Pear Collar, a dazzler of 678 matching pear shaped diamonds totaling over 122 carats. To complement the Pear Collar, she also wore the Cocktail Fizz earrings and a five-line ring made of woven lines of diamonds.

Miu Miu Opens Store At the Marina Bay Sands

Miu Miu has opened its latest store in Singapore at the Marina Bay Sands mall, part of the lavish Marina Bay Sands resort. The store was designed by architect Roberto Baciocchi and is a single-level store with ready-to-wear clothing, bags, shoes and accessories. The facade is made of backlit glass and damask with two polished brass Miu Miu logos. Inside a polygonal open space creates a series of smaller intimate areas for different items. The brand has also launched a special bag for the store which is shown after the jump along with an interior shot of the store.

is credited with redefining fine dining in America. Indeed, the award-winning Austrian-born chef and celebrated restaurateur has built a vast restaurant empire with locations around the world, beginning with his flagship Spago, which opened in 1982 (famous for its haute cuisine pizzas), and later Chinois and Postrio Bar & Grill, among many others. His trademark dishes have revolutionized the culinary industry.

In 2006, Puck opened Cut, a sleek, innovative and contemporary steakhouse complete with a lounge called "sidecar", located in the Richard Meier-designed Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons' Hotel in the heart of Beverly Hills. After only one year in operation, the restaurant earned a coveted one star ranking from the Michelin Guide--no small accomplishment. Beloved by its many patrons, Cut has been nominated for a Luxist Readers' Choice Award for Best Steakhouse.

Marina Bay Sands Singapore Opens First Phase

The Marina Bay Sands resort in Singapore has opened to the public. Las Vegas Sands chairman Sheldon Adelson was on hand to open the first phase of the project at the Feng Shui approved time of 15:18. The first phase includes 963 hotel rooms the event plaza and the casiono as well as parts of the shopping mall and convention center and some of the project's many restaurants and bars. The resort already has events booked in the convention starting next month.

The official grand opening is scheduled for June 23. At that time the remainder of the property's 2,560 guest rooms, more shops and restaurants will open. June 23 also markets the opening of the Sands SkyPark, the incredible park which sits 60 stories off the ground and is perched atop all three of the property's hotel towers.

"Singapore's reputation as a world-class international tourist destination will be further enhanced with the opening of Marina Bay Sands and our company's reputation for building economy-changing tourism developments will be cemented around the world," said Mr Adelson.

Celebrity Chefs Announced For Marina Bay Sands Resort

The celebrity chef lineups for the Marina Bay Sands resort in Singapore has been revealed and they are taking no chances at the $5 billion resort, bringing out some of the world's culinary big guns. The resort will feature restaurants by famous chefs from around the world. The six chefs announced include Mario Batali (New York), Daniel Boulud (New York), Wolfgang Puck (Los Angeles), Santi Santamaria (Barcelona), Guy Savoy (Paris) and Tetsuya Wakuda (Sydney). Chefs Santi Santamaria, Guy Savoy and Tetsuya Wakuda will have their restaurants on the mezzanine layer of the casino while Mario Batali, Daniel Boulud and Wolfgang Puck will have signature restaurants situated near Marina Bay Sands Theatres. Each of the six chefs is personally involved in the concepts, menus, and interior design of the six different restaurants.

When completed, Marina Bay Sands will feature have approximately 2,500 luxury hotel rooms, the rooftop Sands SkyPark, a museum, Las Vegas- style gaming, the Paiza Club for premium players, theatres, entertainment, an outdoor event plaza, and shopping and dining venues. In a press release, Batali calls the resort "the most exciting project I have ever been involved with" but the most philosophical quotes come from the European chefs. Santi Santamaria ponders the possibilities of "culinary poetry" saying he wants his cuisine to "delight the senses and awaken emotional memories with a cuisine of wisdom." Guy Savoy expresses a similar view saying that" cuisine is the art of instantaneously turning produce suffused with history into happiness." They sound like perfect fits for a city that prides itself on the quality and infinite variety of its food.
