Marc by Marc Jacobs Army Handhack Bag

The Army Handhack ($298) is the newest line of bags by Marc Jacobs that proves itself to be functional and stylish. Given its size and that it can be worn as a tote or a backpack, the Handhack can be used is so many ways - as an overnight bag, a weekender, a daily bag, or even a baby bag.

This durable canvas bag boasts an extra roomy interior, three exterior flap pockets, and a large front zippered compartment that can be accessed on either side, easily fitting everything you need and then some. While canvas is easy to clean, I appreciate that the bottom of the bag is leather. It complements the overall look and once it gets a little dirty and worn, it will only add to the bag's character. The Handhack is accented with gold grommets, zippers and buckles while a cranberry stripe on the handles add a little dose of color.

Marc Jacobs Single Sequinned Bag
Can sequins be casual? Although I don't think they can ever come off as truly laid-back the pretty multi-colored sequins on this Large Single Sequined Bag by Marc Jacobs do pair well with daytime separates and do a nice job of upgrading neutral separates and bringing a bit of subtle sparkle to afternoon errands and appointments. The bag features a textured leather fold-over flap front with lock closure, two internal compartments including one with a zip-top closure, an intertwined chain and leather shoulder strap, and an interior lined in black satin with one internal zip pocket. $995

Marc Jacobs Planning A Plus-Size Line

Could luxury retailers finally be ready to take full aim at the plus-size fashion market? Just last week we saw Saks Fifth Avenue announce that it would be adding more plus-sized designer options to its New York flagship store. Now it seems that fashion designer Marc Jacobs is ready to create a complete plus-size line for women over size 14. The Guardian reports that Robert Duffy, president of the Marc Jacobs label, posted on Twitter that the company is in the early stages of planning a plus-size range. It will be a year before the line is available. Duffy has been tweeting under @MarcJacobsInt a lot lately offering contests and opining on the fashion industry. Duffy also tweeted about his own issues in finding clothing that fits. Marc Jacobs was larger when he started out in the fashion world although in the past few years he has maintained a very slim and toned physique.

As an NY Times article recently pointed out, it's not easy to make plus-sized clothing because women who are the same size may have very different shapes. There has also been a perception that larger women aren't interested in spending money on designer clothing. But with larger-sized model Crystal Renn serving as a muse for Jean Paul Gaultier and singer and plus-sized designer Beth Ditto sitting front row at a whole host of fashion shows, it seems that the time has never been better for fashionable plus-sized clothing. Also younger plus-sized consumers seem to have more confidence and more interest in trendy, sexy clothing as the popularity of the Torrid stores proves. Instead of being an afterthought it may be in the future that creating fashionable clothing for larger consumers is a way to build a brand.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Franny Animal-Print PVC Tote, Handbag of the Day

Nothing about this tote is what you might expect from a luxury handbag. It isn't leather and that isn't real animal-print but Marc Jacobs still succeeds in creating a dynamite piece of arm candy using PVC and a cream and black stamped calf-hair effect. The Franny Animal-Print PVC Tote also features a detachable, adjustable shoulder strap along with a pair of handles at the top, gold-tone hardware, magnetic fastening, three interior pockets and his signature monochrome twill lining for just $330. The Fashion Statement: Designers E-tail It

Luxury fashion designers, who've long shunned e-commerce, are caving in.

Last week, The New York Times reported that Marc Jacobs (fall show pictured above), Jimmy Choo, Hugo Boss, St. John, Theory, Kiehls, Lilly Pulitzer, Donna Karan and La Perla are finally going to do on the Web what they do in the real world: sell stuff!

To a person in any other industry, I can imagine how crazy this must sound. Companies in the business of selling stuff have not caught on to selling stuff on the Web, a medium that has been around for several decades!

"'The classic luxury brand Web site is basically a Flash site with lots of beautiful imagery, but no one ever goes to it,'" Aaron Shapiro, a partner at the Web design firm Huge, told the NYT.

There are department stores like Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman to consider. What happens to their online sites, not to mention brick and mortar stores, if you can go straight to Balenciaga.com and order those Formica and plywood platform loafers thereby cutting out the middleman?

Marc Jacobs Hillier Hobo Handbag
The smooth black leather and richly hued goldtone hardware on this Marc by Marc Jacobs Hillier Hobo Bag make for an appealing and classy combination, and I'm particularly drawn to the structured puffiness and narrow depth that give it a sophisticated but casual sense of glam. It has both a single short handle and a longer detachable shoulder strap, a hardware plaque front and center stamped with the designer's logo, magnetic fastening top closure, two interior pockets, and a lining of black and white designer-name print. A lovely seasonless investment. $395

Marc by Marc Jacobs Flash Kelsey Crossbody Bag, Handbag of the Day

Marc by Marc Jacobs Flash Kelsey Crossbody BagThe Marc by Marc Jacobs Flash Kelsey Crossbody Bag is a splendid splash of color to add to your summer wardrobe.

In case you've suddenly noticed that your closet is full of beige, gray and beiger, this is your antidote to a boring summer of blah. The crinkle leather in this bewitching shade of "Rosie" is adorned with a smattering of working zig-zag zippers, making the overall look of the purse lighthearted and fun -- no rainy day gloom involved.

This carefree crossbody is larger than you might think -- 14½"W X 10"H X ½"D -- but the festive color makes it perfect for nighttime affairs as well as long days at the park. To make sure its brashness looks intentional, don't go monochrome with it; wear a floral or other print with detail in a similar color to achieve a quirky, yet put-together effect.

And do wear it on a rainy day; just looking at it will cheer you up.

The Marc by Marc Jacobs Flash Kelsey Crossbody Bag is available from Saks Fifth Avenue for $358.00.

Trio of Supermodels to Star in New Vuitton Campaign

Louis Vuitton has tapped a trio of supermodels to star in its upcoming ad campaign for fall, espousing a sophisticated and feminine aesthetic. Natalia Vodianova (above), Christy Turlington and Karen Elson appear in the ads shot by Steven Meisel, set in a movie star's dressing room conjuring up a Hollywood retro-glamor feel. "The strength of Louis Vuitton is its almost magical ability to reinvent itself every season," Vuitton creative director Marc Jacobs tells Vogue UK. "Last season was all about the idea of the New Age traveler. This season was a manifesto for beautiful, ladylike clothes. Two different collections, two different campaigns, but one Louis Vuitton." Antoine Arnault, Vuitton's head of communications, calls the Meisel shoot (his fourth advertising venture for the famed French luxury house) "richly evocative", noting, "What better way to celebrate eternal femininity than with three of the world's most beautiful women?"

In 2008 my colleague Jared Paul Stern mentioned that Marc Jacobs would be opening his only Chicago boutique at the Elysian Hotel. Now the hotel has created a special package, the "Bed, Breakfast and Marc Jacobs" package for anyone wanting to make a pilgrimage to the boutique. The package is available through Labor Day and includes accommodations in an Elysian guestroom or suite, complimentary breakfast in bed, a Marc Jacob beach tote and a limited edition Marc Jacobs towel. Rates start at $415.

The classic couple, navy blue and gold, in a classic houndstooth pattern unexpectedly mix with black animal hide to create Marc Jacobs 2010 Rockstar Clutch. The luxuriously soft hide encases the entire bag except for the fold-over flap which is filled with pattern. A black leather strap accented with a gold-tone chain and intertwined black ribbon adorns the top and the interior is filled with black satin marked with an internal zipped pocket. Give pickpockets a reason to pause with the designer-stamped padlock which rests outside the magnetic clasp. For $850 this bag gives jeans and a t-shirt some punch or adds some flavor to that perfect little black dress. (12" x 6" x 4" with 15" handle drop)

Marc Jacobs Gilda Fur and Sequin Flap Bag, Handbag of the Day

Marc Jacobs Gilda Fur HandbagI just have to say it: this bag looks like it belongs to a Muppet. Or that it was made from a Muppet. It's the Gilda Fur and Sequin Flap Bag by Marc Jacobs and all that furry fun on the top flap is a blend of dyed fox and raccoon atop a goatskin base covered in shimmery multi-colored sequins. It has a single gold leather handle, fully lined interior with one zip pocket, and a decorative padlock over the flap's snap closure. It's described as "long on drama" and I couldn't agree more. $1,995

Halsey Minor Sells Off His Art Collection

nurse in hollywood richard prince CNET founder Halsey Minor is a little closer to paying off some of his debts this week. A sale of his 22 artworks sold for $21,049,050 at Phillips de Pury & Company. Pieces include "Nurse in Hollywood #4" by Richard Prince (sold for $6.5 million) and an aluminum couch by Marc Newson( $2.1 million). The sales will go a long way toward paying off a $21.6 million judgment won by ML Private Finance, a Bank of America affiliate, on a delinquent loan owed by Minor. Bloomberg News reports that fashion designer Marc Jacobs, art dealer Larry Gagosian and jeweler Laurence Graff were in attendance at the auction.

Minor isn't quite out of the financial woods yet. Last month Sotheby's won a $6.6 million judgment against Minor after they sued for breach of contract ($4.4 million to the auction house plus another $2.2 million in interest and related fees). Minor has asserted that the auction house had failed to disclose an ownership interest in one work and he had not gotten a fair deal. He plans to appeal the the judgment. He is also battling Christie's saying that the auction house mishandled a consignment involving art by Prince. Christie's has also sued Minor over default on payments for $13 million worth of art bought at auction.

Spectators can attend for free but exclusive lawn picnic tickets to the event for $250 apiece will go on sale beginning May 17th at www.vcseason.com.
