Monique Péan Designs for a Cause

The world is becoming ever more conscious of fair trade goods and ethically responsible indulgences like gems and jewelry, and Monique Péan is making that effort all the more beautiful with her nature inspired designs. And not only are many of her creations beautiful and made of rare ancient ivory (the necklace pictured here is made with 12,000 year old mammoth ivory and sells for $25,000) but 50% of her C:W (Charity: Water) collection goes towards providing water and sanitation to disadvantaged people.

The Mammoth Ivory Collector Series Luxury Chess Set

There aren't many games in the world that are bought by people who not only have no idea how to play them, but who realistically have no intention of ever learning. I know how to play chess, although not very well, but I would love to have a nice set someday if only because they look so regal and elegant as part of a room's decor. This chess set, the Mammoth Ivory Collector Series, is made of 40,000 year old mammoth ivory. I'm surprised that ivory that old and from mammoths can even be used for things like this as opposed to being studied or kept in a museum somewhere! Regardless, it certainly is beautiful. And to think of all the history there is in each piece...amazing. $9,999

Tanavista, Shared Living in Mammoth

Tanavista is the latest development in the increasingly luxe Mammoth ski resort town in California. Tanavista is a quarter ownership resort development for second homeowners. There will be 45 residences located on the Sierra Star golf course and within walking distance to The Village at Mammoth which offers shopping and restaurant options. The properties include one to three-bedroom residences ranging from 775 square feet to over 2,000 feet. The homes feature large expanses of glass with wood elements to give the development an Alpine village feel. Shared amenities include an owner's lounge, games room, fitness room, den and an outdoor hot tub. Quarter ownership entitled you to one quarter of the home's time each year (13 weeks per year plus special arrangements for the Christmas holiday season ever four years). The quarter share can be rented out or sold by the owner. The homes are professionally managed and maintained with all expenses shared by the owners. Prices start at just under $200,000 per share and the homes should be ready in 2009.
