Penn National Takes Over The M Resort

The M Resort Spa Casino, a resort ten miles from the Las Vegas Strip, has a new owner. Penn National Gaming, Inc. announced that it has purchased all of The M Resort LLC bank debt, plus $160 million of subordinated debt formerly held by MGM Resorts International for $230.5 million.

In a press release Peter M. Carlino, Chief Executive Officer of Penn National commented, "This transaction represents a great opportunity for Penn National, M Resort, its customers and employees as we address the financial uncertainty and debt burden which has created an overhang on M Resort's operations."

The resort has struggled to find its way since it opened last year but the acquisition gives Penn National, which considered taking on the unfinished Fontainebleau Las Vegas project last year, a Las Vegas foothold. Penn National owns several race track casinos in the east and owns casino properties in Pennsylvania and Maryland.

Las Vegas Gets Ready For Pool Season

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

With the economy lurching back to life, Las Vegas might be in for one hot summer. If so the hotels are ready with tempting new pool options. Pools are more than places to escape the brutal Las Vegas heat, they've become resorts in their own right offering drinking, dancing, gambling, spa treatments, internet access and more.

Caesars Palace has created the new Garden of the Gods pool oasis, which makes its debut on March 19. The new Fortuna pool features an 18-foot waterfall where guests can challenge Lady Luck at the swim-up blackjack tables. And in addition to the new pools there are 44 new private cabanas, each with a stocked refrigerator of juice and water, flat-screen TV, DVD player, iPod docking station, wireless Internet access, ceiling fan and plush furniture. The two Bacchus pools are framed by curved staircases and available only to invited guests. Qua Baths & Spa offers poolside treatments and full-service massages are available in the large Jupiter spa cabana.

Steve Wynn's Encore will be opening the Encore Beach Club. The compound will include pools, food and nightlife. At Aria, the Liquid pool offers an adults-only outdoor playground that is topless. At the MGM Grand, Wet Republic's ultra pool is 53,000 square feet and offers a nightlife experience with poolside pampering and relaxation. DayDream, The Pool Club at M Resort is a more than 12,000 square-foot space with cabanas, daybeds, lounging areas, an ice-railed bar and an infinity-edge pool and spa.

Las Vegas Hotel To Debut Live Cooking Show

Filed under: Dining, Luxury Travel & Hotels

People go to Las Vegas for a variety of types of entertainment, gambling, showgirl revues, acrobatics and now a cooking show? The M Resort Spa Casino will be debuting a new live cooking show: Martini Time With Chef Tina Martini. The show starts on January 26 and is similar to a network television cooking show. The 60-minute Martini Time with Chef Tina Martini treats a live audience to entertaining and educational demonstrations, food/beverage sampling and a "handy hints" and "tasty tips" handout. The five-day-a-week show centers on three key areas of living healthy: nutrition, fitness and mind/body. The show takes place in a custom-built cooking studio within the M Resort's buffet. Ticket prices will include a Studio B Buffet lunch or dinner (depending on show times) as well as reserved seating at the buffet immediately following the show. Given the popularity of the Food Network and shows like Top Chef and Hell's Kitchen, this could catch on and be a new Las Vegas trend.

M Resort Opens In Las Vegas

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

It's not the best time for it but a new casino has opened in Las Vegas in an off-Strip location. The M Resort Spa Casino is a $1 billion resort casino located on South Las Vegas Boulevard and St. Rose Parkway about 10 miles away from the central resort area. The M Resort offers wireless coverage throughout the resort and also features an on-site gas station and M Pharmacy. The resort has 390 guest rooms and suites ranging from 550 to 2,400 square feet. Rooms all have pillow-top beds, a Bose sound system and 42-inch flatscreen television and the bathrooms include an inlaid mirror television and separate bathtub and shower.

On the property there are nine restaurants and five bars including the Studio B Show Kitchen Buffet, which incorporates a live action cooking studio and a wine tasting room called the Hostile Grape. The 100,000 square foot Villaggio Del Sole Pool and Entertainment Piazza will be the location for headline entertainment and there is more than 60,000 square feet of conference space.

The hotel is relying on local buzz and drive-in traffic to fill the resort, which is a boutique resort compared to some of the Las Vegas Strip behemoths. Chief executive Anthony Marnell III told the AP : "I think that we can carve out our little tiny niche down here with this product." Rates start at just $75 a night.
