Michael Kors is big on the buckles these days and I can see the attraction. The gold-tone hardware adds a dash of shine while giving the appearance of being completely functional. Of course, this big gold buckle is purely decorative but it looks lovely with a wide patent leather strap threaded through. The bag itself looks pretty simple, but there are actually three different leathers involved in the patchwork pattern - patent, matte and suede. The bag fastens with a magnetic snap and is also available in a brown/black version. $395.

Another shimmery metallic bag that manages to bypass gaudy and go straight to gorgeous. I love that the lambskin leather is thick and pebbled and almost completely unadorned. With just touch of gold-tone hardware on the straps and side buckles, the bag is uncluttered and sleek. A magnetic closure fastens the top and the interior is lined and features zipper and slide pockets. Measuring 20" x 16½, the 30" strap can be worn long or doubled for a more compact look. $450.

The Muse bag has been around for a while, but I had not seen it in anything other than leather before. This one is dressed in grey felt and accented with with black leather details. It is a sharp look that is all business yet still feminine. Contrasting top-stitching highlights the "Y" pattern of the fabric and a brass-tone padlock includes a key for locking up the valuables. The double handles are wide and flat and have a 17" drop and the bag itself measures 14½" wide x 9'' tall x 4½'' deep. Inside, the bag features sateen lining and zip and cell phone pockets. $1036.

I am loving the French blue of this bag and the gently curved silhouette. Accented with gold tone details, the bag sports a chain-inset strap and a large zippered top. Black piping adds subtle contrast to the decidedly unfussy design and a simple flap pocket adorns the front. Lined in suede, the Italian-made bag measures 13½"W X 15"H X 5½"D and has an 11" strap drop. $1295.

The words "bling bling" conjure images of something gaudy and over-the-top, which I don't think is appropriate for this lovely little bag. Obviously vintage-inspired, the 'fabric' of this metal-frame bag is created from linked Crystals, forming an open weave of jewels over the silver lining. More crystals dot the handle and the clasp is set with a large Swarovski Crystal accent. Measuring 8"W X 5½" D, this perfect party bag sells for $900.

At first glance, I thought this bag was made from some sort of soft brown fabric. I was way off - this gorgeous bag is actually created from richly textured metallic leather. The flap front sports a leather woven gold-tone chain with a coin detail and the chain strap can be worn full length or doubled. Inside, the bag features one large compartment lined in suede with one patch pocket. Measuring 10" H x 14" long, the bag sells for $548.

Sleek and modern in dramatic orange and cream, the Clint Day Bag sports an off-center strip of gleaming metallic leather and a funky buckle closure. It is very contemporary, but somehow has a vintage look - maybe it's the orange calfskin leather giving it that seventies vibe? A simple rolled leather handle and cream colored suede lining finish things off nicely. The bag measure 12"W x 8:H x ½"D. $945.

Despite the ruching, this large bag still maintains a pleasing shape and looks sharp with the contrasting top stitching. A casual toggle detail cinches the top, just above a tiny stitched stick figure, a Beguelin signature touch. Several leather 'leaves' dangle from the side adding another dash of whimsy and the whole thing hangs comfortably from a single shoulder strap. Handmade in Italy, the bag sells for $1640.

Is it a handbag or a piece of art? It's both, of course. Impractical and whimsical, who could resist a funky blinged out Santa bag from Timmy Woods? Like all of her bags, this one is bade from acacia wood and crafted by hand. With jeweled spectacles and a flashy star nestled in his beard, Santa gets a break from his usual red attire. His carved white whiskers are set off by a chunky black and silver beaded strap and a furry black cap. This black and white Santa is also green. For every tree felled to create Timmy Woods handbags, two more are planted. $375.

Allover vertical stitching gives this otherwise plain patent leather bag some texture. Plain is good - I like the simplicity of the flap closure and I love the wide base. With gold-tone rings and closure, the bag is accented with a simple logo medallion and nothing else. A single rolled leather strap with an 8½" drop finishes off the look and the interior sports three pockets. Measuring 10½"L x 4½"W x 8"H, the bag sells for $298.

How's this for different? Pleated and embroidered creamy soft leather is topped off with an unusual gold-tone coiled handled. My first concern was the possibility of getting pinched in that springy handle, but the bit of stitched leather wrapped around the top should prevent that. The frame bag has a large resin 'jewel' for the closure and the interior is lined in logo jacquard. Measuring 9 2/5"H x 16 1/2"W x 7 1/10"D, the bag is featured in Bergdorf Goodman's Resort Focus and sells for $2,490.

Nothing spectacular or particularly outstanding out this bag, but it caught my eye for its simplicity. With diamond-shaped quilting on silver metallic fabric, the bag is festive and understated at the same time. It closes with a hidden magnet and the interior has a surprise: patent leather lining. It measures 12" at the widest point and is 6½" tall in the center. $475.

Take a simple satin bag and cover it with humongous black crystals and this is what you get. The stones themselves are stunning, but seem a bit heavy for the petite bag. But the black chain handle is perfect and the matching logo plaque is just discreet enough. The bag closes with a press stud and features two inner pockets. $1995.

This bag manages to combine slouchy with neat. The decorative buckled straps across the front give it a look that is more pulled-together than you might expect in a large gathered style. Available in black or brown, it looks comfy and well-worn. The top stitching is done in a contrasting thread and the hardware is brass-tone. With double 5" drop handles, the bag features a scalloped front flap, two side flap pockets and a cotton lining. Measuring 9"H X 13"W X 6"D, it has an one interior zip and two cell phone pockets. $545.

I confess that most of Cynthia Rowley's bags don't do much for me - but this one I like. Softer and more elegant than most of her collection, this metallic clutch features three muted leathers stitched together in a simple pattern. The snap closure has a pretty gold-tone catch that matches the chain link strap. Inside, the bag is lined and features plenty of pockets: zip, slip and cell. Measuring 16½"L x 7½"H, the bag sells for $345.
