Dahlia Wall Sconce

Inspired by the mathematics of nature, this unusual sconce reflects more than light. When mounted on the ceiling or wall, shadows are created on the surface behind, resulting in an eerily beautiful image of flower petals. Even when unlit, the white polyamide shades makes a stunning statement, especially when arranged in a group. Designed by Janne Kyttanen, the sconce measures 12.5" diameter by 6.3" deep, is wired for European outlets and use Halogen bulbs. $980.

Kaendler Lobster Box

This stunning piece of hand-painted porcelain was designed by Johann Joachim Kaendler in 1770 and is a beautiful example of why the artist is considered the father of European porcelain modeling. To commemorate Kaendler's birth, last year Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen of Germany issued a select number of his works as part of their Kaendler Edition 2006. The Lobster Box features a gold signet with the artist's initials as well the Meissen Crossed Swords on the bottom of the dish. The piece is 7" long and sells for $6,200.

The ribbon-like base is formed from a birch plywood core layered with American Black Walnut veneer. Along the edges of the wood, acrylic paint in your choice of color is added making it custom for your color scheme. The black looks sharp, but a brighter contrast would make the gentle overlapping curves even more hypnotizing.
