Tobi Tobin's Los Angeles Store

Tobi Tobin, an interior designer who defined herself in an LA Times article as Martha Stewart with a rock and roll twist has created a store on Sunset Plaza Drive in Los Angeles that manages to bring together a variety of eras into one sexy-cool shop. Like Stewart, Tobin is a former model who has created a unique brand around her personal aesthetic. We first fell for Tobin's style when we learned she was the designer behind Randolph Duke's ultra-glam Hollywood Hills pad.

Billion Dollar Babes and Gen Art Team Up For Shopping Event

I've written about (and attended) the Billion Dollar Babes sales before. Now they have partnered up with Gen Art to create the ultimate end-of-the-year sample sale on December 1 and 2 at the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, CA (also the site of Barney's amazing sales).

Ge nArt focuses on emerging fashion designers and other artists and this sale will include women's contemporary clothing and accessory designers from designers such as Alice and Olivia, Edun,Wendy Hill and Ya Ya as well as accessory and gift designs from Oliver Peoples, Kale Handbags, Aaneta Handbags, Hot Dot Greeting Wear, Chamides, Uyen-Uyen and more.

Like all Billion Dollar Babes sales there will be a cocktail bar and other features such as complimentary makeovers. The VIP event for Gold and Platinum members is on Friday, December 1 and the free event is the following day, Saturday, Dec. 2, 9 AM – 5 PM. We'll be there doing a little shopping, taking pics of some of the hot designer wear and trying very hard to remember that this is the season to buy for others not ourselves.

Is Rodeo Drive Losing Its Edge?

The LA Times has an interesting article on the "high-low" trend on Rodeo Drive. Once one of the most elite shopping areas in the world, the shopping area has been making itself more accessible to the masses. They recently opened a bebe store and are working to make the area more "mall-like." But don't get too concerned, a DeBeers store recently opened too. Openings for next year include Omega Watches, Dior Homme, Graff jewelry and Harry Winston. The mix of high and low reflects our modern world in which luxury shoppers are equally comfortable atboth Gucci and Target . But as the LA Times notes, Rodeo Drive seems to no longer draw the celebrities the way it once did. Any given day on Rodeo Drive brings more tourists than star power and even the paparazzi seem to lurk more on Robertson where Kitson and other trendy stores are located. Is Rodeo's push to attract the masstige market making it less of the ultimate place to shop or should they be doing even more to attract the mid-range shopper?
