Jean Paul Gaultier Designs Luxe Lingerie for La Perla

Quirky French fashion maven Jean Paul Gaultier has collaborated with luxe Italian lingerie brand La Perla on a sexy new collection of retro-inspired underthings. Available as of November with prices ranging from about $600 for bras and panties to $1,200 for more intricate pieces, the costly collection will include corsets, bustiers and other items designed to enhance the body's curves. Black and powder pink dominate the color palette along with a few coral and baby blue pieces. "In my latest prêt-à-porter collection I revisited the conical bras and corsets worn as outerwear," Gaultier notes. "Lingerie is part of my core beliefs and my heritage. It has been nearly 30 years since I created my first corset dress. This collaboration was a natural and logical step, especially since La Perla is the pearl of lingerie, with the best savoir-faire." Two limited edition pieces will be presented on July 7th during Gaultier's couture runway show in Paris.

Victoria's Secret to Open First UK Store

Lingerie leviathan Victoria's Secret has announced that it will open its first UK store in 2012. The boudoir-esque boutique will be located in London on the "prestigious corner of New Bond Street and Brook Street," the lingerie company's owner Limited Brands tells Vogue UK. The company had previously been looking at locations on nearby Regent Street, but decided the 16,500-sq.-ft. New Bond Street location was better sized. It's the first major US import for the area since Abercrombie & Fitch opened a store a few streets away in 2007, which has since become incredibly popular with the city's younger set. A UK location is especially fitting considering the top Victoria's Secret Angel at the moment is British beauty Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (above), who's said to be a cousin of the Queen of England. Huntington-Whitely has also just been tapped to replace Megan Fox in the next Transformers movie.

Gisele is World's Top-Earning Supermodel with $25 Million Payday

gisele bundchen
The impossibly alluring Gisele Bundchen has once again been named as the world's top-earning supermodel, with an income of $25 million for the previous 12 months according to Forbes. The Brazilian bombshell retained the top spot from last year's list with the same dollar figure, proving that the supermodel business is as recession-proof as they come. It's also been a good year for Bundchen in the real estate market; as my colleague Deirdre Woollard reported back in January, she sold her NYC townhouse for $12.95 million. She also reportedly donated $1.5 million to the Red Cross for Haiti, sharing the wealth. In the No. 2 spot on the list is Heidi Klum with $16 million, another carryover from last year, while Kate Moss clocks in at No. 3 with $9 million, Victoria's Secret stunner Adrianna Lima makes No. 4 with $7.5 million, and relative newcomer Doutzen Kroes, yet another VS lingerie lovely, gets the No. 5 slot with $6 million. Luxurious Lingerie from Australia's Victoria & James Sleepwear

Victoria & James Sleepwear
Australian designer Victoria Dwyer has launched a new line of luxurious sleepwear under a new label called Victoria & James Sleepwear.

"With Victoria & James Sleepwear I wanted to create a range that was elegant, comfortable and sensual," says Dwyer. "Sheer, delicate natural fibers were important in creating sleepwear that you would want to wear every night and not just on special occasions."

Dwyer was inspired to launch the range after a recent world tour when even in Europe she found it impossible to find luxury sleepwear. Victoria & James Sleepwear features a range of night dresses, robes and pajama suits that are "the ultimate in bedtime pleasure" according to the company. "I'm the sort of person who if I can't find something I make it myself," says Dwyer. "I enjoy design and creating beautiful things."

Designs are sensual rather than overtly sexy, with fabrics being exquisitely soft and delicate. The line includes beautiful sheer cotton voiles and hand-printed silks edged with delicate French Solstiss lace in a palette of white and gentle pastels. The cut of each garment is flattering to every type of figure and the finish, with perfect French seams, hand-applied lace and ribbon, and even Swarovski crystal buttons, bearing all the hallmarks of a true luxury brand.

"For me, and for so many women who appreciate beautiful things, the essence of a luxury item is in the finishing touches," says Dwyer. "That's why I have chosen to trim these beautiful fabrics in special Guipure laces which I sourced from France and Switzerland. Even the color-fast ribbons have been carefully selected from the best European houses and threaded by hand."

Victoria & James Sleepwear is only creating a limited number of each item, says Dwyer, "making them very special and quite individual."

The luxurious line of sleepwear can be viewed here and ordered online at www.victoriaandjamessleepwear.com.

The exquisite collection of nightgowns, pajamas and robes range in price from AUD $380 ($350 USD) to $780 AUD ($718 USD).

Harlette Platinum and Diamond Lingerie Clasps

harlette diamond garter clasps
Bored with necklaces, rings and bracelets? Harlette, an English Lingerie company established in 2005, has worked with Australia's Eskae Jeweller to create lingerie suspender clasps made of platinum hearts covered with diamonds. The luxury objet d'art made out of platinum and pave-set diamonds is a world first in lingerie and was awarded an innovation patent 2009100676 on Bastille day 14th July 2009. The piece has 135 diamonds for a bit of private sparkle.

Australian lingerie expert Naomi McGill specializes in elaborate pieces in silk with the finest trimmings. Handmade lace, silks, jewel-encrusted tulle, velvets marabou, ostrich and peacock feathers all combine to make pieces that are delicate, wearable art. The diamond clasps are sold with velvet suspender (garter) belts and cost approximately $15,000.

Harlette Luxury Lingerie also launched their custom clasps made out of silver, gold, rose gold and platinum during the Oscars week. The clasps are bespoke and require special custom orders. Each clasp is designed especially for the Harlette lingerie housecoats to match the first initial of the wearer or they can use the H clasp designed for Harlette. After the jump check out the H clasp as worn by Miss USA 2004 Shandi Finnessey last week at the W Hotel.

Sculptz Legwear & Shapewear Makes NYC Debut

Sculptz Legwear & Shapewear Makes NYC Debut
Legwear and shapewear experts Sculptz made their NYC and U.S. debut earlier this month with an upscale cocktail party and display at The Glasshouses in Chelsea. What made this show special was that there was a mix of mannequins and live models, so you could really see how the products worked and ask the models questions about their outfits. Hosting the event were Sculptz president Jean P. Vernor and "tastemaker" and celebrity stylist Robert Verdi.

Scultptz, which makes products along the same line as that other shapewear company (beginning with an "S" and ending with an "x"), only less strangling, more affordable, more colorful, and more wearable, has been in business since 1974 and is headquartered in Philadelphia. All products are made in the U.S.A. I tried one of the products, and like the slogan says, it was so comfortable I did indeed forget I was wearing it. (When I tried that other brand, I wanted to pull it off as soon as I got in the door.)

The NYC event was titled "A Girl for All Seasons" and featured models dressed in Sculptz products, à la iconic '40s and '50s pinup girls, in displays that represented the four seasons. Another model walked the room and a sixth was in a classic evening display complete with faux fur rug and garter belt. (See the gallery.)

Sculptz products promise to "flatten the tummy, lift the rear, and slim the hips and thighs, while providing the freedom and confidence to wear everyday styles from day to night." The collection features shorts, sheers, tights, slips, body shapers, camis, bras, and briefs. There also are sexy thigh highs and pants-friendly trouser socks. New for fall 2009 are leggings and capris in lots of fun, autumnal colors as well as classics like red and black. All the colors feature clever names, too. Black is "A Girl's Best Friend," for example, while copper is "All Spiced Up" and white is "String of Pearls."

Sculptz prices range from $15 - $70. Products are available only online right now, although plans are in the works to be in retail stores soon. Sculptz also has sites in Britain and Canada.

Special for Luxist readers: Get 25% off Sculptz shapewear and legwear from Sunday, November 29, 2009, until Thursday, December 10, 2009. Just enter promo code B809 at Sculptz.com.

Look like Lady Gaga with a Mask by Kiki de Montparnasse

Lady Gaga knows a good mask when she sees one. On the packaging for her "Poker Face; Remixes" album, Lady Gaga is seen wearing a Kiki de Montparnasse original.

The masks are handcrafted in Venice Italy exclusively for Kiki de Montparnasse, a high-end designer of intimate apparel and accessories with flagship boutiques in Los Angeles and New York.

The masks are the perfect accessory to wear to spark ones imagination. The mask are formed in all various shapes to suit all different moods. Wearing one of these masks to an elegant Halloween party would certainly create a statement.

Traditionally, masks have been worn in Venice during the annual celebration of Carnival. They have also been used for the purpose of concealing a person's true identity, and not so that you could egg the neighbor's house or trick-or-treat for candy. Historically, masks were used by members of Venetian society enabling them to step outside the confines of their accepted roles, whether to perpetrate an illicit act, such as gambling, or something more personal like a clandestine romantic encounter.

Kiki de Montparnasse masks are made in the time-honored manner by the same craftsmen who created the pieces for Stanley Kubrick's film, "Eyes Wide Shut" . The collection offers an exquisite range of masks, including classic demi-masks, full face styles with a modern elegance, simple lines and bold metallic finishes. There are also masks fringed in silk or topped with feathers and animal masks including butterflies, kittens and unicorns. The masks are finished with either a lustrous silk ribbon or a hand-carved wooden handle for classic masquerade appeal.

If you don't have a party to attend these masks can be worn to inspire an elegant romantic fantasy in the privacy of your own boudoir. Prices range from $175 to $550. Meow!

MySkins Skin-Matching Lingerie

MySkins Skin-Matching LingerieNo matter whether you're dressed black-tie or for the gym, if your, ah, foundation garments are showing, you look a mess. Of course, you could be going for that look. In that case, skip this post.

But for those women who want their lingerie to match their skin tone and therefore be invisible under clothing, particularly under the white clothes that dominate summer outfits, there's MySkins. This line comes in 20 shades, about 17 more than the traditional black, white, and "nude" (which only works if your skin is that beige-y tone) colors found in stores.

The line features bras ($48) and panties ($12) in three styles each. It's a short list, but my guess is that if the line takes off, it will add more styles. If you're not sure what color is for you, request a free Color Match Card.

Saudi Princess Stiffs Parisian Boutiques for $24 Million

Filed under: Wealth, Crimes and Misdemeanors

Princess Maha al-Sudairi, the wife of Saudi Arabia's Interior Minister, is holed up in a Paris luxury hotel claiming diplomatic immunity after refusing to pay a $24 million tab she ran up at the city's ritziest boutiques. Al-Sudairi, whose husband Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz is a member of Saudi Arabia's royal family and is second-in-line to the throne, racked up the impressive debt on a year-long spree at the French capital's high-end clothing, jewelry and lingerie boutiques, the London Telegraph reports. In all some 30 businesses have been stiffed including Dior, jewelry shops Chaumet and Victoria Casal, lingerie emporium O Caprices De Lili, and the famed Hotel de Crillon.

The Princess is currently holed up in a $4,000-per-night suite at the ultra-luxe Four Seasons George V hotel (above), which is partly owned by her nephew, Prince Al Waleed bin Talal. After some of those owed money initiated legal proceedings, the plaintiffs' lawyer Jacky Benazerah obtained a court order for bailiffs to go to the George V and seize the Princess' belongings. However, the Princess has invoked diplomatic immunity and will likely refuse them entry, in which case the French interior ministry and senior police officials would have to be consulted to authorize a police escort, the BBC reports.

Jamila Boushaba, owner of Paris' O Caprices De Lili lingerie shop, located directly across from the George V, was left holding a $100,000 bill for lacy underthings. "She was a very good customer for eight years, but then simply stopped paying," Boushaba tells the Telegraph. "I made a delivery of lingerie to the George V, but payment never arrived. Every time we called, we were told the bill would be settled the next day. It never was. When we contacted the Saudi ambassador in Paris he said there was nothing he could do for us." An aide to the Saudi royal family was similarly unhelpful, sniffing, "I'm afraid we can't go around settling bills for the Princess's knickers."

Jacky Giami, proprietor of luxury clothing boutique Key Largo, said the Princess stripped his shelves of some $215,000 worth of casual wear. "We know the family well – they're in Paris a lot," Giami tells the Telegraph. "She's not the kind of customer where you ask for a deposit, or to ask to see a piece of identity." Every time the Princess and her entourage visited Giami's and others' shops a representative would offer staff an embossed card stating "Payment to Follow". And of course having all those exquisite clothes cleaned cost quite a bit as well; the Princess is also said to have run up a drycleaning bill of $50,000 - per week.

Natalia Vodianova to Design Lingerie for Etam

In the past we've written about sexy Russian supermodel Natalia Vodianova's ad campaigns for the likes of Versace and Calvin Klein. Now she's turning her hand to designing as well, starting with a lingerie collection for French label Etam. Vodianova, who recently signed a three-year deal to be the brand's global ambassador, will produce a capsule collection each season called Natalia pour Etam. Initial pieces include a silk nightgown inspired by a vintage piece from her personal collection, a gray lace corset, and polka dot bra and pantie sets. "What I realized when designing this is how feminine I am," Vodianova says. "I'm feminine to the bone." We won't argue with that. You can check out some pix and video of Natalia cavorting in Etam lingerie here.
