Sleek Prada phone and matching, synchronized watch

Cell phones have nearly become the new watches.

Personally, I'm not a fan of this trend. I love watches. Watches have history, a long tradition of craftsmanship and beauty. Cell phones tend to last two years at most and break a lot. Using your cell phone as your watch may save you the money and trouble of finding and elegant watch, but it's sort of like using a backpack for a purse.

Prada has come out with an interesting pairing of watch and cell phone, above. Prada and LG have teamed up to bring you a watch that receives all your Prada/LG phone's text messages, call data, and it also has a Reject Call function. You wouldn't have to dig out your phone every time if beeps, you could just look at your watch and decide whether it was worth it. Very James Bond, or at least Penny from Inspector Gadget.

LG Trom Bruno: Premium Washer Headed for Korea

Before the end of the year it looks like Korean washers and dryers will have new competition from LG. These shiny and spectacularly load-diverse machines have a whopping 15 kg capacity (that's over 33 pounds) and a dozen different modes from which to choose. Fluff your Hermès scarf or scrub your stinky campfire clothes -- either way the LG Trom Bruno will take care of your clothes washing needs. The price is $5,250 which I really hope includes both the washer and dryer. I'm wondering...if you have fine clothes that would warrant such expensive machines wouldn't you take them to the dry cleaner before throwing them into your own laundry? Although with the stunning capacity it would be fantastic for a really big family or the multiple loads a college student brings home on the weekends.

Prada II Phone Offers Same Design, New Keyboard

The new version of the popular Prada phone has been unveiled. The Prada II looks a lot like the first one but it has a slide-out metallic keyboard, a 5-megapixel camera with 7.2Mbps HSDPA and wifi. It's pretty, it's also pretty pricey, set to sell for around 600 euros (over $800). It will launch in Europe in the end of October or beginning of November. There seems to be a distinct lack of enthusiasm from both bloggers and commenters around the blogosphere on this one which I'm not sure if I attribute to the high price of the phone or the design.

Dalumi Creates Diamond Gadgets

Dalumi Group, the company that created the diamond shirt, are putting their diamonds in another non-jewelry place, on gadgets. Dalumi has created a lifestyle accessory collection partnering with LG Electronics to create a diamond-studded flash drive and with Ricoh to design a digital camera accented with diamonds. The LG Disk on Key features diamonds from Dalumi mounted in white gold and is valued at $10,000. The Ricoh Capilo R5 digital camera includes over 200 diamonds set in white gold, and is priced at $25,000. The camera and flash drive will be shown at luxury goods exhibitions around the world and will be auctioned at the end of the year with the entirety of the proceeds going to the SOS Children's Village in Botswana.

LG Prada Bluetooth Headset

If you are the type who matches their Prada shoes with their Prada bag then you will definitely need this Prada headset to match your ultra-trendy minimalist Prada phone. Not a whole lot is known about the headset except that it seems to have caller ID, a battery meter and a volume indicator. Seems a bit bulky, I still think the red Jawbone is hotter. Basically there is a long, long way to go in making these headsets truly chic.

LG Strawberry Chocolate Phone

If you like pink, you'll love the new LG Strawberry Chocolate phone. Available exclusively from Verizon wireless, the bright pink phone joins the Cherry, Mint and White Chocolate phones already in the LG Chocolate lineup. The phone offers an mp3 player, 1.3 megapixel camera, speakerphone, Bluetooth and a memory expansion slot for SanDisk 2GB cards. On top of all the tech specs, an optional accessory for the phone is a Hershey's Carrying Pouch, which comes with a Hershey's Hugs Chocolates Charm and coupons for a free Special Dark chocolate bar (the edible kind). The phone is $99, with a 2-year contract.

The PRADA Phone Goes Official

The LG KE850 PRADA became real today, the phone that LG is touting as the "first completely touch screen mobile phone," and is initially priced at €600 (about $778 US). The phone is due to hit "PRADA stores in the UK, France, Germany and Italy at the end of February and parts of Asia before March."

So sure, they'll beat the iPhone to market by a few months, but the two phones have little else in common besides their touch screen interface; the KE850 will have no usable internal memory for media (LG opts for a microSD slot instead), it won't have a native mail client or web browser, and it doesn't seem to support multi-touch capabilities.

Regardless, this thin, shiny, posh'd up beauty is launching in Europe as a tri-band GSM (no word yet on US release, but we'll sure let you know as soon as we do) and has a revised UI from their previously-reported OS X –like color scheme to a handsome, minimalist black and white scheme. KE850 Prada Phone from LG

The Dolce & Gabbana RAZR phone, although undeniably good-looking, was just a dressed up version of the standard RAZR. The newer Prada-themed LG KE850 isn't based on previous interfaces of the chocolate LG phones, but uses a completely new touch-screen interface - which will be Prada-branded, of course. The phone will come in a Prada-made made leather case and is rumored to have only three "real" buttons on the whole, extra-thin unit: send, end and confirm. A limited European release isn't expected until late spring.

LG Designs Keep Cool

We've already seen LG's designer washing machines, but who knew that they made designer air conditioners, too? TheDesignWeblog first spotted these and they're even cooler - literally - than the washing machines. The Art Cool Air Conditioning units offer changeable panels, in addition to plain designs and the Van Gogh pictured here, that allow you to customize the appliance. The air conditioners are slim, wall mounted and release air through mini-slits, not sending out a jet of freezing wind into the room and eliminating hot and cold spots while keeping things cool. The design makes it one of the quietest air conditioners in the world. It includes an air-purification system, timer, temperature display and a noncooling dehumidification mode. The units are priced around $1500, but the price varies by specific model, so it's best to track down a dealer if you're interested.

LG Designer Washing Machines

Over at Gizmodo, they were pretty harsh on these new limited edition LG washing machines but I think they are pretty cool and would jazz up a boring laundry room. LG has joined up with Designers Guild on these four steam washing machines which come in Sevilla, Ribailagua, Imperial Flower and Cloisonné. The machine sprays hot water and steam on clothes to use less water and energy than regular washers. It also has a remote monitoring option. The machines will be sold at Harrods and John Lewis in Britain starting in June (with the black Cloisonné model debuting in October 2006). The washers will sell from 1300 – 1500GBP ($2,435-$2810). No word on when we get these in the States.

Another LG Chocolate Phone

Hot on the heels of the European release of their LG KG800 "Chocolate" phone, LG has introduced an even more interesting version in South Korea. The LG KV6000 looks even more like a chocolate bar than the previous model due to its gold accents, but is also available in a black and silver color scheme. It is slightly thicker than the KG800, with a 1.3-megapixel camera and room for up to 120 mp3 tracks. According to Engadget, the starting price is around $530, though the plane ticket to Korea will run you a bit more.

LG Chocolate Phone

The LG KG800 gets its name, Chocolate, from its shape and distinctive coloring. It proved very popular when it was first introduced in South Korea last year and was just made available for order in the UK. The design of the phone is very unique, a winner of the 2006 IF Design Award in Germany. Weighing just 83 grams, the phone features a full color LCD screen and allows navigation of the phone's functions via a heat-sensitive touch pad that is designed to glow red when in use and avoid activation when tucked away in a bag or pocket. When the phone is slide open, a full keypad is revealed in addition to a 1.3 megapixel camera, complete with flash, that takes photos up to 1280x960 in size. The LG Chocolate also features 128 mb of internal memory and an MP3 player.

Not yet available in the US, I have heard rumors that a US version of the phone is in the works.

Digital Video Hits Phones

LG has just released their U900 phone, which is reported to be the first DVB-H phone in the world. DVBH stands for Digital Video Broadcasting - Handheld, a slightly smaller version of same technology that works for digital TV. The phone and its digital imaging technology will first be available in Italy, where the carrier Hutchinson, the largest service carrier in Italy, has obtained the exclusive DVB rights to the 2006 World Cup. After the World Cup is complete and an Italian base has been established, the phone will be marketed globally.

The screen is 2.2-inches wide and users can watch for up to three hours on one battery charge. The phone also has a 1.3 mega-pixel VGA digital camera and 58 MB memory. Rumor has it that Samsung Electronics plans to introduce a DVB-H phone to the Italian market this month, as well.
