Ferrari Donates Special-Edition F430 for Abruzzo Disaster Relief

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos, Auctions, Charity

The annual Leggenda e Passione auction at the Ferrari factory in Maranello always features a staggering array of unique sports and racing cars from the company's history, and this year's is shaping up to be no exception. Among the myriad historic Ferraris heading up on the block this weekend, Alain Prost's F1 car, a 330 P4 Le Mans racer and a unique 250 Testa Rossa are headlining in the event. But Ferrari has just added one more vehicle to the docket: a special one-off F430 to raise funds for relief work in the Abruzzo region of Italy, which was struck by a devastating earthquake last month.

The special-edition supercar will be the last F430 off the assembly line when production ends later this year to make way for the next-generation model. It will be painted silver and gold, the colors of the city of Aquila that bore the brunt of the disaster, and come equipped with an array of extra features from Ferrari's extensive customization catalog. The special F430 will be auctioned off at the event, with proceeds going to disaster relief in Abruzzo.

Prost's Historic Title-Deciding Ferrari 641/2 F1 Car Up for Auction

This year's Leggende e Passione auction event at the Ferrari factory in Maranello is shaping up to be, well... legendary. RM Auctions has run the historic Ferrari and Maserati auction at the factory for three years running now, but this year's roster of classic exotic machinery going under the hammer looks to be the best crop yet. In addition to the 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa and 1967 Ferrari 330 P4 (among the myriad other priceless classics) we've already reported on, the auction will feature the historic Formula One race car which Alain Prost drove in his infamous duel against Ayrton Senna in 1990.

Packing a 685-horsepower 3.5-liter V12 revving up to 13,000 rpm and mated to a ground-breaking seven-speed sequential transmission, Chassis #121 is what Prost drove to five podiums over the course of the 1990 championship, including one race win. It's also what Prost was driving when arch-rival Senna crashed into him on the penultimate race of the season in Japan, ending the race for both but handing the title to Senna by default. It was one of the most controversial championships in motor racing history, and now the car in which it all happened is up for sale. Following a nearly €110,000 restoration at the Ferrari factory where it's being sold, Chassis #121 is expected to fetch €300,000-€400,000 when the hammer drops next month in Maranello.

Rare Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa Expected to Shatter Records at RM Auction

Ferraris: expensive. Rare Ferraris: more expensive. Race-winning iconic classic Ferraris: record-breakingly expensive. What you see here definitely falls into the latter category, a rare 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, complete with Scaglietti pontoon-fendered bodywork and an extensive race history. Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien drove this car to victory at Le Mans in 1958, one of ten significant race victories this TR amassed in the 19 races it started between 1958 and 1961.

The250 TR is one of the most instantly recognizable cars in Ferrari's history. Ralph Lauren owns two. This example, chassis #0714TR, is painted in stunning black with a red nose and matching red leather seats, and looks poised to shatter the $10.89 million record set last year by a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder when it goes on the block at RM Auction's annual Leggenda e Passione event at the Ferrari factory in Maranello this coming May.

One-of-a-Kind 1962 Ferrari Going Up for Auction

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

In the world of expensive cars, there are always a few that stand above the rest. It's a subjective issue, to be sure, but if you're into Ferraris with a history then the upcoming "Leggenda e Passione" auction in Italy is somewhere you're going to want to be.

One of the Ferraris with the best history is going up on the block -- the one-of-a-kind 1962 Ferrari 330 TRI/LM Testa Rossa. The one and only Testa Rossa with a 4L engine, the last Testa Rossa ever built, and (as if that weren't enough already) it's the car that won at Le Mans in 1962 driven by Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien.

The auction is on May 20th and will include a number of other historic Ferrari's, although valued at up to $10 million the Testa Rossa is by far the biggest attraction.
