Jack Georges Carla Satchel, Handbag of the Day

From the Firenze Collection, the Carla Satchel isn't all that unique, but I love the rich brown color of the croco-embossed Italian leather. At 13 x 10 3/4 x 5, it is fairly large and loaded with pockets: an open front pocket, a zippered center compartment, open side compartment and two interior zippered pockets. Plus, the bag has interior card and cell phone holders. This could easily become my favorite everyday work bag. $335.

Gina Alexander Gig Bag, Handbag of the Day

Look like you are with the band without all that bothersome groupie business. Designed in collaboration with the late guitar icon's sister, the Jimi Hendrix Collection features handbags with a rock and roll edge. At 22½" L x 17" H x 4 ½ W, the Gig Bag is large enough for a change of clothes, should one be necessary. Lined with corduroy and studded with antique brass, this one is for the Foxy Lady in you. $549.50.

Marcela Calvet Honoré II, Handbag of the Day

There isn't a trendy our outrageous bag in Marcela Calvet's entire collection. Instead, her bags stand out for the obvious quality craftsmanship and their French-inspired beauty. The Honoré II is her homage to Hermès Paris, combining elegant design with exotic skins. Made from South American Ostrich in a rich Pampas Saddle color, this hand-made bag features gold-plated solid brass hardware, a simple flap closure and brass feet. Lined in Argentine calf with an adjustable shoulder strap, the bag measures 10"W by 8"H x 4"D. $3,200.

[thanks, Lara]

Gustto Cala Zip Top Clutch, Handbag of the Day

It is not your imagination - this bag is short. Measuring only 5 inches tall, what it lacks in height it makes up for in style. The over-sized gold-tone metal logo emblem adds a lot of punch, with two smaller versions attached to the two-way top zippers. The body of the leather bag is softly pleated and gathered on each end. Cotton lines the interior, which features zip, wall and cell phone pockets. At 17 inches long and 6 inches deep, it is a nice size for tucking snugly under the arm. $345.

Paul Smith Violet, Handbag of the Day

Designer Paul Smith aims to combine his very Englishness with a bit of the unexpected. In this bag, he gives a rather traditional shape a jolt with color and pattern that just barely misses being psychedelic. It's the subtler hues that give this bag a calmer feel and I think the look is charming. The swirl pattern is printed on a soft Italian leather, accented with brushed gold-tone hardware. It has a large zip top closure under two buckle straps with magnetic closures. Inside, the bag is lined in cream colored canvas and has a cell phone pocket as well as an additional side pocket. It's a proper bag with flair. £475.00.

Marc Jacobs Softy Faridah Pocket Hobo, Handbag of the Day

I don't know what a softy faridah is, but I like it. This hobo is available in cream with a contrasting brown trim, but I like the black and red. I do know what pockets are and this bag four - two buckle pockets on the front and two zippers on each side, both with gold-tone hardware. The top is open, but at 14 1/2 inches high, I think it is fairly spill-proof. $398.

Tory Burch Reva Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Elegant, classy and sophisticated - that is what comes to mind when I look at this bag. Paired with a little black dress, it is perfect for an evening out. The bag features lustrous black leather adorned only by a large, gold-tone logo plaque. The strap is just a little funky with a geometric chain link that manages to look delicate and sturdy at the same time. A simple magnetic closure seals the deal. Also available in coconut brown. $295.

Lulu Guinness 50's Furniture Shop Carmen, Handbag of the Day

Lulu Guinness remains one of my favorite handbag designers. Her bags are instantly recognizable for their unique and whimsical design. This one, from the Autumn/Winter 2007 collection, depicts a 1950's furniture shop scene embroidered upon black patent leather. I love the details - especially the star-burst clock hanging on the wall of the shop and the L.G. monogram on the door. I also like the shape - a large box with a full sized zip closure. It is a cute bag with a retro vibe. £195.00.

BCBG Embroidered Cut Out Handbag, Handbag of the Day

It has been quite some time since I have ventured into a BCBG store. Many years ago, their clothing and accessories seemed to have sophistication with a hint of sex appeal. Nowadays, they seem to swing towards the sex appeal side and have done away with the sophistication and design quality. I was pleasantly surprised - actually amazed - when I saw this Embroidered Cut Out Bag and realized that it was by BCBG. A bit on the trendy side, it does have a unique design that immediately catches your eye. The neutral pale beige leather balances out the prominent cut outs and brass hardware. It features double straps and a top clasp and snap closure while the interior has a zip and two pouch pockets. Price: $374.

Maxx New York Nadine Flap Satchel, Handbag of the Day

It's 95 degrees where I live, but just looking at this bag makes me think of the falling leaves and cool breezes of Autumn. Although I am not ready to pull out the boots and sweaters just yet, this wine colored suede satchel would look great when the time is right. Trimmed in crocodile embossed leather, the roomy bag sports gold-tone hardware and pockets galore: two zippered pockets on the front as well as interior zip, cell phone and MP3 pockets. With 8-inch-drop rolled leather straps, the bag will sit snugly just under the arm. Also available in other cool-weather colors: black and chocolate. $298.

Miu Miu Pleated Leather Hobo, Handbag of the Day

Not everyone can get away with wearing pleats, but anyone can carry a pleated bag. Like understated jewelry, the three silver-tone buckles on each side of the 4 inch drop handle dress up this basic black hobo from Miu Miu's Fall collection. With a zip top and expandable zip sides, this large bag will carry it all. If you are going to fill it up, it's going to get heavy. Feel free to set it down; the silver-tone feet will protect the bottom. Inside, it is lined in black fabric and has one interior zip pocket. $1270.

Chloe Paddington Capsule, Handbag of the Day

I am not sure about the color of this bag. They call it 'elephant' and I think it is aptly named, I just can't decide if I like it. I do like the front flap pocket with the signature padlocked chain across it. Shiny gold-tone hardware abounds on this bag, with lots of buckles and studs. The designer knew when to stop with the gold, however, and used leather tabs for the zipper pulls. Inverted gussets on each side make this a roomy bag and the rolled leather handles look sturdy and comfortable. $1780.

Dior Ethnic Zip Shoulder Bag, Handbag of the Day

This sweet little bag comes in brown or black leather, but either way, it is a beautifully detailed example of simple sophistication. What looks like eyelets is actually antiqued silver studs dotting the scalloped edges, adding a bit of feminine texture. A braided leather strap hangs from the handle with a logo embossed heart on one end and a tassel on the other. A leather tab hangs from the zip top and inside the bag is lined in nylon.

If not for the silver studs, the bag would be too simple even for me. That detail is what makes this bag so pretty and worth the $990 price tag.

Dior Samourai 1947 Woven Frame Bag, Handbag of the Day

From Dior's Fall 2007 collection, this bag is so unusual and sports so many interesting details it is hard to know where to look first. Let's start with the obvious - the woven fuchsia leather. It's a bold color choice and the elaborate pattern is not your standard basket weave. Moving up to the shoulder straps, your eye is drawn to the graceful serpents perched upon the tortoiseshell frame. As if that weren't splashy enough, the leather shoulder straps themselves are twisted in an elaborate design and almost look like extensions of the serpents. Showcasing the Dior logo is a miniature Louis XVI picture frame hanging from a leather strap. Inside, you'll find Dior jacquard lining, a logo tag and a 7 inch zip pocket. With metal feet to protect the base and a pretty snap clasp, this bag is sure to be a must-have for those who can afford the $3900 price tag.

Cammie Hill Patent Cocktail Can Can Purse, Handbag of the Day

New York designer Cammie Hill's bags make a statement with bold colors and interesting silhouettes. Now in patent leather, the cocktail can can purse features feminine Italian leather ruffles cascading from a simple wooden handle. Flirty and fun, the bag comes in a rainbow of colors and two sizes - this is the small version. $210.
