Tarina Tarantino Hardcore Minibox Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Many of Tarina Tarantino's handbags look like they were designed to be carried by children. Featuring Barbie, Hello Kitty and lots of quirky touches, the bags are playful and unique. This metallic clutch may be a little more grown up, but it still offers that little something different. A limited edition, the gold and silver leather clutch sports a very large Swarovski crystal embellishment right in the center of a big silver bow that doubles as a hand strap. Or you can carry the bag from a crystal-studded lucite bangle attached to a 10.75" long gold-tone chain. Now, that is different. The bag measures 5.75" wide, 4.25" tall, and 1.75" deep and is also available in a neon pink and white version. $465.

I love the slouchy and casual look of this bag. Dark olive suede is gathered through double strips of leather, adding to the slouch factor and creating roomy pockets on both sides of the bag. With just a touch of metal in the small buckle details on the sides and handle, the bag secures with a hidden magnetic closure. Inside, it is lined in similarly colored cotton and has a large main compartment with one zip and two slide pockets. $615.00

At first glance, this domed-shape bag doesn't really stand out. The details are spare and there is very little hardware to catch the eye. But maybe that is what makes it the ideal bag for every day use. With barely-there contrasting top stitching, the rolled leather handles attach to the bag as if they grew there. Softly gathered leather gives a feminine look and the light tan color goes with just about anything. With the logo embossed discreetly between the handles, the wide zippered closure gives full access to the interior, which is lined in logo fabric and features zip and cell phone pockets. How do you dress up a rather plain snake-printed leather clutch? Add some over sized brass rings and attach a saber-carved piece of wood. I like the idea, but the unusual handle just doesn't seem to go on this particular bag. It looks slightly better on the black version of the clutch, but still stands out as bulky and mismatched on such a sleek bag. With a magnetic flap closure and faille lining, the bag measures 10"W by 5"H by 2½" D and has zero pockets. $315.

I can see myself carrying this go-with-anything black and white leather tote on a regular basis. At 18" x 16.5" x 1", it's large enough to hold everything I need and has plenty of room for additional shopping finds. It has wide, comfortable straps and the interior cell and zip pockets will prevent the awkward 'tote-dig'. A little antiqued brass studded detail and a logo luggage tag finish off the look of this simple and practical bag. $1,600.

Betsey Johnson 'Betsey Be Bad' Satchel, Handbag of the Day

Betsey be very, very good with this satchel. The soft burgundy leather is just barely pleated and the perforated corner details really make things pop. I love the contrast and the minimal use of brass-tone hardware on the handle, strap and studded accents. The 5 inch drop handles are kind of short, but attach the 16 inch shoulder strap and you can be hands-free. Inside are two open pockets and a printed faux-quilt logo lining. $325.

I don't know that 'siren' accurately describes this bag, but I like it anyway. Glossy Italian leather with a crinkly finish, the tasseled bag looks sporty and casual. This side view doesn't accurately depict how large the bag really is - with a 3.5" flat bottom sporting protective feet, it's a big 12" inches wide by 7.5" high. With thick braided straps and gunmetal hardware, the bag is lined with graphite colored lining and features three interior pockets.$258.

I am seeing a lot of variations of this color in handbags this fall and I like it a lot. This deep plum leather is quilted with elastic, giving the bag a bit of give and an overall soft look. Nothing new about the chunky gold-tone chain strap, but it does look sharp against the diamond pattern of the bag. With a single zip pocket and classic kiss-lock closure, it is simply beautiful. $1395.

Large metal studs on leather usually says 'rock star' or perhaps 'groupie', but not this time. The Jennie bag is big and slouchy and despite the studs manages to look classy. This one is way out of my budget, but is pretty, pretty. It is large and exotic, made from crocodile that is
silicone-injected, giving the skin a softer and more luxurious feel. The white matte finish is crisp and clean and the large, two-way zipper top gives easy access to all the compartments you could ever need - zip, phone, camera, pen and cards. Lined in suede, the Italian-made bag has 4" drop handles and is also available in black. $11,300.
