Sleek and modern in dramatic orange and cream, the Clint Day Bag sports an off-center strip of gleaming metallic leather and a funky buckle closure. It is very contemporary, but somehow has a vintage look - maybe it's the orange calfskin leather giving it that seventies vibe? Despite the ruching, this large bag still maintains a pleasing shape and looks sharp with the contrasting top stitching. A casual toggle detail cinches the top, just above a tiny stitched stick figure, a Beguelin signature touch. Several leather 'leaves' dangle from the side adding another dash of whimsy and the whole thing hangs comfortably from a single shoulder strap. Handmade in Italy, the bag sells for $1640.

Allover vertical stitching gives this otherwise plain patent leather bag some texture. Plain is good - I like the simplicity of the flap closure and I love the wide base. With gold-tone rings and closure, the bag is accented with a simple logo medallion and nothing else. A single rolled leather strap with an 8½" drop finishes off the look and the interior sports three pockets. Measuring 10½"L x 4½"W x 8"H, the bag sells for $298.

How's this for different? Pleated and embroidered creamy soft leather is topped off with an unusual gold-tone coiled handled. My first concern was the possibility of getting pinched in that springy handle, but the bit of stitched leather wrapped around the top should prevent that. The frame bag has a large resin 'jewel' for the closure and the interior is lined in logo jacquard. Measuring 9 2/5"H x 16 1/2"W x 7 1/10"D, the bag is featured in Bergdorf Goodman's Resort Focus and sells for $2,490.

This bag manages to combine slouchy with neat. The decorative buckled straps across the front give it a look that is more pulled-together than you might expect in a large gathered style. Available in black or brown, it looks comfy and well-worn. The top stitching is done in a contrasting thread and the hardware is brass-tone. With double 5" drop handles, the bag features a scalloped front flap, two side flap pockets and a cotton lining. I confess that most of Cynthia Rowley's bags don't do much for me - but this one I like. Softer and more elegant than most of her collection, this metallic clutch features three muted leathers stitched together in a simple pattern. The snap closure has a pretty gold-tone catch that matches the chain link strap. Inside, the bag is lined and features plenty of pockets: zip, slip and cell. Measuring 16½"L x 7½"H, the bag sells for $345.

I don't know about you, but handbag names intrigue me. With the softly pleated dove white leather, is this bag meant to resemble an upside down chef's hat? Or is there some food connection that I am unaware of? Either way, the bag is cute and relatively understated. Top-stitched with contrasting black, the bag features very little in the way of hardware: silver tone handle attachments and the required Fendi logo charm. The shoulder straps have a 9" drop and the bag itself measures 21" W X 11"H X 9"D. With a zip top closure, it is lined in canvas and features one interior zip pocket. $1360.

It may be small, but this bag just glows with chic style. It's a small-scale hobo that looks dainty and elegant swinging from the chunky chain strap. Cinched and rich, the black snakeskin has a shine to rival the chain and it all comes together beautifully. It's a dressy little bag, but I can still see it classing up a pair of jeans. £759.00.

I like this bag, but it is one of those rare occasions where the back side looks better than the front. The silver-tone hardware looks sharp against the turquoise leather, but the abundance of leather fobs hanging around is distracting. There is lots of storage in the front zippered pockets and an interior zip pocket, and the wide strap is adjustable canvas. The other side of the bag is plain and simple - just a large expanse of pretty turquoise leather. The bag opens with a zip top and features black canvas lining. Measurements: 15½" W x 15 ½" H x 6½" D. $1405.

Silly name, gorgeous bag. Modern and glowing, the shape is rather ordinary, but the details are not. The large flap front is free of adornment, allowing the unique handle and strap to be the focus of attention. With a 3" drop, the solid handle has just the right amount of heft and looks comfortable to carry thanks to the leather padding. The 11½" chain shoulder strap is substantial, but not chunky, and the overall look is delicate. Measuring 11½"L x 2"W x 8¾"H, it is lined and features interior zip, cell and wallet slip pockets. $159.

I feel the need to go somewhere warm right about now and this bag would be perfect for the trip. It's a beautiful warm red color and the ruching detail adds tons of character. Measuring 17.7"L x 5"W x 11.8"H, it is big enough to hold the travel necessities, including a good book or two. There is plenty of organization options with two angled zip pockets on the front and zip, cell and PDA pockets inside. Also available in black, it is practical and pretty and just begging to be taken somewhere. $1690.

There is something familiar about this bag that I can't quite put my finger on. I feel I've seen the color and the top-stitched handles before, but the elongated shape is definitely fresh. A roomy 15" x 12½", the bag sports gold-tone hardware and an interesting braided detail. What I like best is the wide 11½" straps. A bag this size can get pretty heavy when loaded and that extra support makes it a lot easier on the shoulder. With a magnetic snap closure, the interior has both zipper and cellphone pockets. $418.

You would be hard pressed to find a handbag more feminine and simply styled than this one. This bag stands out more for what isn't there than what is. The absence of hardware, pleats, zippers and logo plates is refreshing and I love the powder blue color. Made from soft Italian leather, it has a magnetic flap closure and two zippered interior pockets as well as a cell phone pocket. Also available in black, red and pink, the bag measures 12 ½" x 7" x 3 ½" and sells for $185. Make it yours with a monogram for an additional $20.
