Tod's Quilted Day Bag, Handbag of the Day

Like a well-tailored suit worn with a crisp white blouse, this bag is classically good-looking. The tan and white strips on the snap flap look sharp against the matte black leather, and mirror the quilted stripes on the bag. Trimmed in bright white leather piping and accented with just a touch of silver hardware, the bag features a zippered pocket on the back and a divided interior with an additional zip pocket. $1575.

Brian Atwood Daphne Clutch, Handbag of the Day

In cognac calf leather, this sleek little clutch from Brian Atwood is another fine example of understated elegance. Proving that you don't have to go all out with the metal to dress up a bag, these simple gold-tone ovals do the job nicely all by themselves. With a push-down ball closure and suede lining, the bag measures 11½" W x 6" H x 1½" D. $1060.

Rachel Nasvik Patricia Satchel, Handbag of the Day

Pick a color, any color - they are all gorgeous. Made from soft lambskin, the details are in the simple geometric folds, accented with just a touch of brass hardware. Generously sized and supported by large, flat straps, the bag has a nice wide bottom and the all-important protective brass feet . It has a zippered top opening and is lined in canvas. But which color? For me, it's a toss-up between the deep blue and the butterscotch. $462.

Kaia Peterka Getaway, Handbag of the Day

Norwegian designer Kaia Peterka knows a good bag is essential to the traveling girl. You need something that is durable, roomy and above all, stylish. This bag is all three. With a soft shape and a distressed look, the Getaway is dressed up with a broad strap, threaded through loops and wrapped casually around the bag. At 13" x 15.5" it is large enough to hold your travel essentials with room left over for shopping finds. Available in pewter, night, whiskey or choco, it has a zip top closure and is lined in a brocade fabric. $550.

Prada Spazzalato Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Neiman Marcus first opened its doors on September 10, 1907 - that's 100 years of great shopping to celebrate. NM is doing so in typical style with exclusive offerings from top designers in every department, including handbags. Prada marks the occasion with this beautiful clutch in a rich cherry leather. It's a simple fold-over with a magnetic snap closure and features a gold embossed luggage tag hanging from a slim leather strap. Also available in nude and black. $995.

Janelle Ford Zinnia Leather Shoulder Bag, Handbag of the Day

I like anything handmade and orange is my color - so this bag seems tailor made just for me. Free form swirls are handstiched and studded with nickel against a deep orange leather. And it's not just the front of the bag that gets this attention to detail - the stitching and studs continue on the reverse as well as on the broad leather handle. Also on the back side is a large zip pocket with a simple tassel pull. Inside, the bag is lined and features a beautifully stitched, leather-trimmed zipper pocket. $650.

Thomas Wylde Sacrifice Bag, Handbag of the Day

I know this look is not for everybody, and even a crystal-encrusted skull can be kind of scary looking, but I am just a tiny bit attracted to this bag. Look past the dead head on the leather flap and the bag is a riot of pleasing, shaggy softness. Made from distressed Mongolian lamb, it has an intentional worn look that adds even more character to a bag that wasn't short on character to begin with. The chain and leather strap is nice, but beware - the interior not only sports zip and patch pockets, but skull lining as well. $3,000.

Chopard Happy Fish Bag, Handbag of the Day

Chopard may be better known for timepieces and jewelry, but their collection of accessories does include a few lovely handbags and wallets. This is the Happy Fish Bag, made from grained calf leather and cotton canvas. Compared to other bags in this price range, this one seems rather lightweight and skimpy on the leather, but it does have the cute factor. The bag features little fish cut-outs as well as metal and resin fish hardware. With a simple flap closure, the bag might be rather spare, but it is definitely unique. $520.

Lambertson Truex Tenny Tote, Handbag of the Day

I am loving the crisp basket-weave on this tote. Weaving leather strips together this way isn't all that unique, but the contrasting top-stitching adds a nice touch and gives the pattern even more dimension. 17" double handles with a 61/2 inch drop makes for a nice fit on your shoulder and the hinge-locked flap opening gives easy access to the interior. The bag is lined in pretty baby blue suede and includes the standard zip, patch and cell pockets as well as a key fob and two card holders. Minimal polished silver-tone hardware on the bag and protective feet finish things off and the end result is a very wearable everyday tote. $957.

Fendi Hologram B.Mix Bag, Handbag of the Day

It is hard to describe this bag without making it sound like a mess: pink and blue beads criss-crossing strips of Fendi logo fabric, brown leather trim, silver-tone hardware and generous amounts of contrasting top-stitching all set against a transparent patterned vinyl. Regardless of how it sounds, I think the overall look is surprisingly pretty. It is from Fendi's 2007/08 Autumn Winter collection and I suspect there will be no middle ground on this one - you will either love it or hate it. Personally, I love it. $1634.78.

Kate Spade Francis Satchel, Handbag of the Day

From Kate Spade's Sydney collection, the Francis satchel is a soft-shaped bag with subtle but gorgeous shine. The platinum metallic calfskin is white hot and the bag doesn't go overboard on the details. Decorative ties are threaded through engraved nickel and 14-karat light gold rings and an almost invisible logo plate decorates the front. Lined with the signature larabee dots, the bag measure 9 1/2" high by 16" wide by 6" deep. $625.

Pierre Hardy Leopard Saddle Bag, Handbag of the Day

I just never get tired of leopard print. I like it in my home and I love it on my bag. This slim shoulder bag from Pierre Hardy goes with just about everything and is sized just right at 17" wide by 12" tall. Black patent leather trims the strap, the flap and continues around the bottom of the bag. The very long shoulder strap makes it perfect for carrying across your body when you need to keep your hands free and the simple flap closure can be managed with one hand as well. At $1590, consider it an investment in a bag that will never go out of style.

Brighton Kennedy, Handbag of the Day

This bag is from Brighton's contemporary collection, but I think it looks pretty traditional. The color is raisin and the look is classic, with double shoulder straps and a top-snap closure. Lots of bags these days have multiple, heavy charms hanging from them, but this has just the one simple heart and key. Together with the silver-tone buckles, there is just the right amount of shine. The interior is lined in Brighton's beautiful signature paisley print and features a zip pocket, a zip divider and a key ring. Does anyone actually use the key rings? $350.

Via Spiga Madrid E/W Satchel, Handbag of the Day

Being able to balance simple design with the right amount of boldness may seem like an easy task, but personally I find it difficult to achieve. With accessories – and most likely anything else one buys – having this balance certainly adds longevity in its use and sense of style. The Via Spiga Madrid E/W Satchel may become one of the few bags that you will always wear – regardless of trends and the season. The cognac colored leather is bold yet neutral enough to wear with many colors. It features whipstitch detailing, minimal gold accents and a zippered front pocket. The braided leather double handle completes the look by adding just enough luxury without being extremely overpriced Price: $250.

Francesco Biasia Look At Me Bucket Bag, Handbag of the Day

Okay, a show of hands - who likes this bag? I'll go first and state for the record that I think it's a lovely combination of materials and I like the natural color. The drape of the reptile-embossed leather belt around the raffia fabric gives the bag an easy, casual look and the gold-tone hardware is just right. The interior is pretty as well, with a floral lining, a center zip divider and slip pockets. $145.60.
