Munk Bogballe Workstation

Apparently there's a Macbook in there somewhere, believe it or not. We've covered blinged up laptops before but this one is dolled up as a workstation, not a glitzy fashion accessory. Munk Bogballe has taken a basic Apple Macbook and added an anodized aluminum surface on the top and a European aniline leather underside, plus a sophisticatedly simple (but expensive) leather case to put it in. The 2.4Ghz Macbook underneath stays pretty much factory spec, plus 4GB of RAM and Windows XP pre-installed. £3,500

Bottega Veneta's Intrecciato Laptop Bag, Handbag of the Day

I may switch out purses fairly often but my laptop bag has been the same for almost a year now -- needless to say I go for less "trend" and more "classic" when shopping for ways to tote my computer. The Bottega Veneta Intrecciato Laptop Bag is simple, classic, smooth. Leather in rich chocolate brown with woven sides, double zip closure, a cotton lining, and a detachable shoulder strap make this bag seasonless and more than able to stand the test of time for years to come -- both in quality and style. $2350

Gold-Plated and Diamond-Studded Macbook Pro

I love my Macbook, but I don't know that I'd ever considering going so far as to plate it in gold with a big diamond-studded apple logo. But if you're of a different opinion and have the money to burn then you should get in touch with the team over at Computer Choppers and commission your own customized laptop casing, with options including gold or platinum plating with diamonds, sapphires, and other gems. Pricing varies, of course, but estimates for a gold-plated Macbook Pro run around $1200-$1500 plus another $500-$2400 for the logo (depending if you want CZs or diamonds).

Lenovo Think Pad Reserve

Ready to feel old, the venerable Think Pad computer is 15. Our friends at Engadget reported this earlier this summer (check out their fancy gallery of pics) but the popular computer is coming out in a swanky reserve edition that is wrapped in leather and looks a bit like a portfolio. The computer has a Centrino Pro Core 2 Duo L7500 processor, WWAN, 2GB of RAM, a 160GB HDD a 12.1-inch screen and a seven-hour battery. Each one is numbered and the maker of the Think Pad, Lenovo, will emboss the owner's name on the leather cover. To compensate for the heat of the leather, the engineers created a system to release heat through the sides. The leather also adds a bit of heft. The detail that really gets me about this one is the little antenna that pops up to help improve access to wi-fi networks. The reserve edition sells for $5,000.

Oooms Wooden Memory Sticks

Some things, cool or creative as they may be, just strike me as hilarious. And these Wooden Memory Sticks by Oooms had me laughing out loud when I first saw them. Maybe it's because they're so life-like that it brought to mind visions of shoving a stick into my computer and expecting it to store my data for me. And they look so realistic because they are real -- they're handpicked branches from the woods that are professionally handcrafted into USB storage discs.

Available in 256 mb, 512 mb, 1 Gb, and 2 Gb memory sizes and measuring about 2cm x 2cm x 10cm, they cost between 45 and 80 euros each. All laughter aside, it's a really neat idea.

Calder Laptop Cases

Very simple in design, Calder laptop cases are understated and classic inside and out. Crafted with full-grain leather made by one of England's oldest tanners, the cases also have a hand-laid carbon fiber shell that's amazingly strong while not being too heavy. A silk velvet lining and suspension system protect your laptop from damage in your travels, and the whole setup reminds very much of an instrument case as opposed to a shoulder or tote bag (which is no surprise considering they make guitar and violin cases as well). Available for £2020 through the Bill Amberg store.

Comfy and Relaxed: Henry Beguelin Men's Bags

Okay, I'm not a man so I can't write about these Henry Beguelin men's bags from the angle of "I'd sure love to have one." But I can say that any guy I see carrying one will score a second glance and bonus fashion points, in my book anyway. Depending on your own personal style, they most likely appeal to earthier types who care about their appearance and want something nice, but also like the comfortable and natural "lived in" look. To me they nicely communicate two things: "I'm successful" and "I'm not stuffy." Not an entirely easy thing for a bag to do.

My favorite of the bunch, this Italian cracked leather computer bag with shoulder strap, sells for $1,750.

The Barcelona Laptop Bag by Zegari, Bag of the Day

Hit any coffee shop nowadays at the right hour and laptop bags just might be a more visible fashion statement than handbags or shoes (okay, that might be an exaggeration, but still). Regardless if you're looking to express yourself, simply want something nice to carry your laptop around in, or both, Zegari has designed a couple of very nice options to choose from.

Made of fine leather and full of handy pockets and features for everything you can imagine, both The Barcelona Bag and The Minimalist were designed to appeal to those with classic tastes looking for a mix of both fashion and function, and luxury of course. The bags sell for $285-385.

Luvaglio's Million Dollar Laptop

Information and details are sketchy, but Luvaglio is apparently planning to unveil its latest luxury gadget -- a $1 million dollar laptop -- sometime in the near future. So what does that much money get you in the world of portable computers? There seems to be an intentional feeling of mystery surrounding the whole thing, with limited pictures released and an invitation only website. But rumor has it there's a glossy black piano finish on the outside, a self-cleaning screen, a Blu-ray drive, and a diamond-encrusted (of course) power button.

For a million dollars I hope the rumor-mill missed some major features, or else that better be one big power button.

Ego Love Edition Laptop

The Love Edition Laptop from Ego is the ultimate way to show the love of your life that you care - assuming that she (or he, if you're so inclined) likes gadgets even more than jewelry. It's a laptop computer that was designed just for Valentine's Day! The laptop is covered in soft red or pink leather and embellished with a heart on the top. Each one includes a silver heart pendant that can be engraved with the message of your choice. No pricing information has been released, but it's a limited run so a higher guess is safer than a lower one.

Cenario Arttops Laptops

Arttops are a line of laptop computers from Cenio that have, as the name suggests, very artistic tops, which set them apart from the crowds of white, grey and black laptops out there. The art is designed by Dutch artist Selwyn Senatori, who put together a blue "King" arttop and a pink "Queen" design. The laptops, unlike some of the bejeweled cases we have seen in the past, are actually fairly good in the performance department with Core 2 Duo 1.86GHz processors and 1GB of DDR2 RAM and over 100GB HDD, though the screens are a little on the small size, at 15.4-in. for the "King" and 14.1-in. for the "Queen." Only 100 of each will be build and they are set to retail for $2,986 (king) and $2,915 (queen).

laptop@home

laptop@home is a line of soft laptop accessories designed by Mike and Maaike that are intended to make using your laptop a bit more comfortable, especially if you prefer to actually work with it on your lap than set up at a desh. The PocketTop ($50) is a mobile workstation/laptop bag, with pockets for accessories. The CushTop ($35) is a lap desk that keeps the heat from the laptop from building up on your legs, as well as giving you a more comfortable angle for typing. The SleeveTop ($40) is the most streamlined of the line, very thin with built-in cooling pads for lap work.

Talene Reilly Laptop Tote, Handbag of the Day

Forget the basic black nylon, as well as the briefcase-like look of most laptop cases. Talene Reilly's Laptop Tote is just as stylish as any designer handbag, but is practically designed, so it will securely carry a laptop anywhere you need to go. In deep plum (as well as black and white houndstooth), the leather and flannel bag has a Teflon-coated, foam padded laptop pocket that can protect a computer completely from falls up to 3 feet. There are six other pockets on the bag and it has a zip top closure. The rolled leather handles have a 6.5" drop and are attached with silver-tone rings, which match the buckle accents on the bag's trim. It measures 15" x 16"x 1/4". Price: $285.

Cole Haan Large Paige Convertible Tote, Handbag of the Day

The deep bottle green color is what attracted me to Cole Haan's Large Paige Convertible Tote because it is fairly uncommon, with most designers favoring neutrals, blacks and other standards for their large bags. The bag is made of soft, supple leather and has shoulder strap that converts this from a day bag to one that is a little more convenient for traveling or just for carrying a laptop around. It has a magnetic snap closure at the top opening, just above the cinching belt, and two small zip pockets on the front in addition to several small interior pockets. The tote measures 17" L x 14 1/2" W x 6" D. Price: $425.

Medion Swarovski Notebook

Adorned with over 300 pink and clear Swarovski crystals, Medion's Limited Edition Swarovski Notebook Computer is a cut above your average laptop. Despite the fact that the notebook appears to be gray in the photo, it is actually a light shade of pink, too. The computer has an Intel Centrino Duo 1.73GHz processor, 1024MB memory, 100GB hard disc drive, DVD-RW and a two-speaker high definition audio system, but it is the sparking flower design on the front that is really going to sell the machine. Price: £1,000 ($1,905).
