My new favorite laptop bag designs are from Nicole Roberts' Nokhoo line. Designed to be both beautiful and functional, the bags are tough enough for daily use and feature zippered pockets in all shapes and sizes for stashing anything you might want to put in there. The idea is that with one of these bags you won't need to carry an additional purse unless you want to. The bag shown here is called "Deloverly" and has a textured heavy-weight cotton exterior, contrast print lining, and padding throughout. It has a dedicated laptop compartment plus pockets for business cards, cds, gadgets, pens, and even a detachable cell phone case. $150

Leather-Lined Wooden Cases for Macbook

It can be hard to find a laptop case you really love because even though there are an infinite supply of different fabrics, patterns, shapes, and sizes out there somehow many of them seem almost the same. But not this one. This laptop case by Rainer Spehl is more like a mini, portable cabinet than a bag or a sleeve. Made of wood, lined in leather, and featuring a hinged top with magnetic closure the design comes in three sizes that are made to fit the 13", 15", and 17" Macbook Pro. The only thing missing (in my opinion) is a handle for carrying -- it looks a little too slick for me and without one I can totally see myself dropping it, Macbook and all, onto the unforgiving pavement. €160 - €350

It's not exactly the sexiest laptop bag I've ever seen but if you are out for the day with your laptop and need power it could be your new best friend. The Voltaic Generator bag from Global Satellite USA produces enough solar power to fully charge a laptop from less than a day in the sun. It features a high-efficiency 15 Watt solar panel that can gather a full laptop charge after five hours of full sunshine. Each hour in the sun is equivalent to 20-45 minutes of laptop run time depending on the laptop and it can also be used to charge other devces like phones, mp3 players and cameras., The bag is constructed of fabrics made with recycled soda bottles which are tough, waterproof and UV resistant. The solar panels come in five color options, orange, silver, green, white and black. It sells for $499. Laptop Mag recently reviewed it giving it three out of five stars, finding it cumbersome, heavy and not compatible with all laptops.

It may not be the most glamorous briefcase I've ever seen but the new Checkpoint Flyer Briefcase by Tom Bihn has one very important feature, it can slide through airport checkpoints with your Mac safely inside a sleeve, saving you the awkward fumble of taking out your computer, putting it into a bin and sending it through the chute unprotected along with umpteen other Apple computers.

The durable bag is made of ballistic nylon with YKK Uretek zippers, Duraflex Stealth buckles, and Poron foam-padded handles in Tom Bihn's Seattle factory. It's pretty travel friendly with 11 organizational pockets, a back pocket that zips open to accommodate the handle of a roll-aboard, a quick-access boarding pass/map pocket and a folded foam laptop compartment that completely encases the laptop in 8mm-thick closed cell foam, available in three sizes designed specifically to fit Apple laptops (yes, it fits PCs too). They say it requires less than 3 seconds to be prepared in order to send the briefcase through the x-ray machine. It is available for pre-order through Tom Bihn and ships by late September. It sells for $220.

I just got a brand new laptop that came complete with an ugly bag in which to carry it around. I immediately started looking for a more fashionable replacement and came across this one. I like it first and foremost because it isn't black. The wine-colored suede says "professional" without being boring. Trimmed in chocolate leather, the bag sports the same functionality as the ugly bag with tons more style. In addition to a couple of handy side pockets on the exterior, the inside features several slip pocket compartments, pen and pencil holders and room for a 15" wide laptop.
