YoYo Elmar Flototto Floor Lamp

I seem to be finding all the items with tongue twister names lately, but it's worth the risk of sounding like an idiot when their looks are as fun as their names (plus you guys can't hear me trying to read them out loud). Enter the Yo Yo Elmar Flototto Floor Lamp, which will bring to your home the vibe of a large Yo Yo sitting on the floor. The cord wraps around and forms the "string" for the Yo Yo and allows you to roll the lamp anywhere you might need light. Designed by Caterina von Matern and Lisa Lindstrom, it's suggested as great in the garden (outdoor safe?) or as an art piece indoors. $317.98

The Balloon Inspired Frosted Sheep Light

This lamp would fit perfectly in a child's room, and brings to mind counting sheep as they go jumping through the clouds. Created by David Hupton and Yve Thelermont for Thelermont Hupton of Great Britain, this simple design was inspired by the balloon animals made by clowns at carnivals and parties -- now you can have one that not only lights up a room but also never deflates! It's frosted blown glass mounted on a silver finished steel stand and comes in just the one color and design. $385

Prospetto Lighting Creazione Collection

This hanging chandelier light is definitely beautiful, but you also want to make sure you hang it somewhere where there's no danger of someone putting an eye out -- not a good choice to dangle low over a dining room table or buffet for instance. The Prospetto Lighting Creazione Collection consists of this lamp in a variety of colors (shown here in "fruit") as either chandelier or floor lamp styles in small, medium, and large sizes. Handmade of mouth-blown glass it looks like an explosion of party ribbons, perfect for a room that needs a touch of whimsy to lighten the mood. Priced at $8999.99 and up.

The "Fall of the Damned" Lampshade

Although I can appreciate the artistic message and a certain ominous beauty, I honestly have no idea why anyone would hang this "the fall of the damned" lampshade in their home -- it's downright creepy. From a distance it appears as an interesting and intricate ornament, but up close the shapes focus into individual bodies twisted in fear as they fall to their doom -- frozen amidst shadows and plays of light from within. By Luc Merx for the mgx 'Private Collection,' the detail and feeling evoked by this piece is remarkable. Available in white only and in a limited edition of only 40 pieces, it's priced at $46,200.

Tom Dixon Designs in the U.S. this Summer

If you've already heard of Tom Dixon then you'll be glad to know his designs are making the move the to the States this summer. And if you haven't heard of him well then a taste of his work is pictured here, Copper Shade Pendants. They're plastic polycarbonate pendant globes coated internally with copper that look equally beautiful hanging solo or in a large group. Other designs of his that catch my eye are the Fresh Fat Easy Chair and the Spin articulated table candelabra.

Orb Multi-Light Pendant

The Orb Multi-Light Pendant by Trend Lighting hangs like an upside-down bouquet of flowers. I love lights that are actually bunches of lights, so this is right up my alley. In your choice of 15 spheres or 24, the individual shades are made of spun filament glass with a brushed nickel finish. If I'm reading this right (80" high) then this is one enormous lighting fixture, standing taller than me from top to bottom. That makes it that much more impressive, but also means it can't hang in just any entryway or dining room. $647.

Pug With Velvet Bag Lamp By Dietlind Preiss

This may look like a pile of tag sales finds, but it is actually a lamp. Mixing the macabre with a little humor, artist Dietlind Preiss creates her art from found objects. This eager-looking pug rests on a velvet pillow with a lamp sprouting from its head. A velvet bag dangles from human-looking hands, complete with painted fingernails. Touch the bag and the dog barks. The lamp is 20 inches tall and is a one of a kind piece. $4595.

The Titanic Lamp

This Titanic lamp looks exceptionally simple and downright plain in design other than the fact that it's "sinking" right into the table like its famous namesake ship did into the sea so many years ago. It's made of lacquered wood with a cotton and steel shade, plus it does turn on to provide light so it appears more like a normal lamp that just happens to be sinking than it does some molded sculpture -- but you'll have to resist the urge to "save" it by setting it back up straight. Available in white only from Viable London.

Jezebel Lazy Daisy Five Blossom Chandelier

This sparse but elegant chandelier is part of the Jezebel Signature line. With hand rolled and colored glass shades suspended from gracefully curving 'stems', the piece looks light and airy. This one is done with Black-eyed Susan glass and a brown finish on the hand-forged iron. If brown seems a bit dull, you can choose from a rainbow of other glass colors and bases to coordinate. The chandelier is 120" high by 89" wide and each one is signed and dated. $25,800

Vox Pendant Lamp

Check out the latest piece from Southampton-based lighting genius Art Donovan. The "VOX" Pendant Lamp is 30 inches in diameter. The exterior is matte bisque white while the interior is Armani gray splashed with a hand painted, textured silver design. The VOX can be specified in any size, configuration or combination of matched colors of colors. Its stark minimalism with a heart of glittering glam would be gorgeous in a contemporary home. The VOX sells for $4,800.

Moooi Horse Lamp by Front

Lets just all remember that we don't have to necessarily love something to write a post on it. This Horse Lamp designed by Front for Moooi is interior lighting for die-hard animal lovers only. I normally would fit into that group, and I especially love horses, but I guess I like my animals a little more natural looking (i.e. not wearing lampshades on their heads). Not to mention, this horse has a strange stressed-out expression on his face that would make it hard to relax around.

But, all that being said, it is a beautiful animal. Maybe in the right setting...? $4389.

Talanca Hanging Lamp

Andrew Hollingsworth specializes in historical and contemporary European design with an appreciation for clean lines and timeless form. Of his many beautiful lamps, this one stands out for its eclectic style.

The simple design of the Talanca Hanging Lamp allows light to wink through cut-outs in the ceramic shade, creating a sharp look that catches the eye. Available in silver, matte white or black, the lamp is made in France and measures 35.4 inches high by 13.8 inches in diameter.

Imagining this sleek beauty illuminating in your own living space? It can be yours for $1,650.

Slow Glow Lamp, Fat On The Move

This lamp, from Droog Design, is somewhere between brilliant and creepy. The Slow Glow light, which was formerly known as the fatlamp, was designed by next architects. It consists of a large bulb filled with fat. You turn on the light and as the fat heats and melts up the light gradually gets brighter. It is selling at Unica Home for $436. They see it is as a discussion piece, the sluggish nature and the fat of the lamp perhaps representing the obesity trend. Me, I'm not quite sure what to think but I I know this is one lamp you don't want to accidentally knock over.

The Oba-Q Lamp

I think this little white lamp is absolutely darling! I don't know that the artist was going for "darling" when it was originally designed, but it has a definite air of quiet smooth classiness as well. Created back in 1972, surprisingly it would almost fit better mixed in with modern pieces instead of older ones. Said to have been inspired by the "folds of dropped handkerchief," and made of white acrylic, the Oba-Q lamp measures 16" x 16" x 16" and goes for £135 ($265).

Falkland Terra Floor Lamp

With an organic form that seems to rise like an icicle from the ground, the Falkland Terra Floor Lamp provides you with a way to light up your room with a soothing, ambient glow, rather than with a harsher spotlight. The lamp is made of white elastic fabric over an aluminum frame and measures 65" x 15.75"d. It would look great as a soft light source in a living room, but even better in the bedroom. Price: $600.
