Pete Sampras In Lake Sherwood, Estate of the Day

Retired tennis star Pete Sampras and his wife, actress Bridgette Wilson-Sampras like to move around a lot it seems. Last month Big Time Listings reported that the pair had bought a home for $5.6 million in Brentwood. Now the LA Times says that the pair have listed their newly built compound in Lake Sherwood for $25 million. They also sold a Beverly Hills mansion in 2008 for $23 million.

Today's estate is a gated contemporary that is atop 20 acres offering views of the surrounding countryside. The property has a tennis court, swimming pool, guest house and a 2,000 square-foot gym. The main home has a home theater, gourmet kitchen, game room and there are seven bedrooms. This home is listed at $25 million (the same price their Beverly Hills home was first listed at in 2008).

Lenny Dykstra House Auction Scheduled

I've got a major update on the Lenny Dykstra situation. According to legal documentation filed at the Ventura County Recorders Office, on July 9 at the Ventura County Courthouse the trustee will hold an auction on the courthouse steps for the baseball-player-turned-almost-mogul's home in the Lake Sherwood area of Westlake Village. As you may recall when this was our estate of the day, this home was originally owned by hockey god Wayne Gretzky who reportedly spent $30 million creating the home. Bidders at the auction will need to match the money the Dykstras owe Index Investors in the approximate amount of $900,000 (in certified funds naturally).

There are two other smaller lien holders who have first right of refusal to bid on the $900,000 and there is also a mortgage of around $13.1 million with Washington Mutual. If these loans are paid then the new owner would be subject to the first mortgage loan from Washington Mutual (now Chase) and unpaid property taxes of around $275,000. This way the owner might be able to avoid obtaining a new loan (no easy feat in the current lending climate which tends to frown on jumbo loans).

Lenny Dykstra in Thousand Oaks, Estate of the Day

Add another to our list of celebrity slow sellers. Move Trends reports that Lenny Dykstra's home has had a steep discount since it first hit the market last June for $24.95 million. The retired baseball player bought the Thousand Oaks, California home from another retired player, Wayne Gretsky, for $18.5 million in 2007. The six-bedroom neo-Georgian home in the Lake Sherwood area has a guest house, carriage house, tennis courts, pool, spa and gym on 6.69 acres. The home was designed by architect Richard Landry and has a home theater, billiards room and an elaborate slightly fussy decor. The home is now listed at just $16.5 million (or for rent for $55,000). I wonder if the deep discount has anything to do with the rumors of trouble about Dykstra's magazine, The Players Club.

Provident Financial Management Golf Classic

The second-annual Provident Financial Management Golf Classic benefiting the Bogart Pediatric Cancer Research Program and Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy takes place on March 9th at the Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California. The Sherwood Country club is home to a championship 7,052 yard, par-72 champion golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus. The event begins with a breakfast and putting contest followed by a shotgun start at 11:00AM. The event includes a complimentary barbecue lunch on the 9th hole, and an evening dinner and cocktail party at the Sherwood clubhouse and both silent and live auctions.Individual tickets start at $2,500.

The Bogart Pediatric Cancer Research Program conducts leukemia and cancer research for infants, children, and adolescents at the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, while Nordoff-Robins Music Therapy provides and promotes the skilled use of music with individuals, groups and communities who are challenged by disability, illness or injustice. In the first year alone, the Annual Provident Financial Management Golf Classic raised over $220,000. Funds raised by Bogart Pediatric Cancer Research Program enable the foundation to receive more support for its research and care, resulting in 8 to 10 dollars in research grants for every dollar raised.

Lake Sherwood Hilltop, Estate of the Day

I've hit up Lake Sherwood before, the private enclave located in Ventura Country in Southern California. This gated home in the community is set above the rest, literally. The home is on a giant mounded hilltop making it the highest Sherwood lot with views over the lake, the golf course, the community and the surrounding mountains. It is new and has 11,000 square feet of space including six bedrooms. The home has an outdoor pool and spa and an interior that includes just about every possible convenience. Because of the hilltop location you get more land than over homes in the area, over five acres. The Sotheby's Realty listing says it is for sale for $27.9 million but the Realtor.com listing says $23 million. After the jump, life on the mound.

Sherwood Country Club, Estate of the Day

Today's home is located at the Sherwood Country Club, a luxurious enclave in Ventura Country, California. The club which features golf courses, a tennis club and spa, and a lake club all located near Lake Sherwood. The gated community is the site of a variety of large homes. This four-bedroom home was built in 2000 and has over 8,000 square feet of space that includes a screening room. Outside there is a pool and hot tub. The home doesn't come with much in the way of land and it is situated on the 16th hole of the golf course so if privacy is a concern this isn't your dream house. it is listed at $9.825 million.
