La Perla Launches Jean Paul Gaultier Collection Createur in New York City

Italian luxury lingerie company La Perla launched the new Jean Paul Gaultier Collection Createur for the first time in the United States on Thursday, December 9th at its Madison Avenue flagship boutique in New York City. As my colleague Jared Paul Stern noted earlier this year, the luxury line by the talented French designer has prices ranging from about $600 for bras and panties to $1,200 for more intricate pieces. "In my latest prêt-à-porter collection I revisited the conical bras and corsets worn as outerwear," Gaultier stated back in July. "Lingerie is part of my core beliefs and my heritage."

Gaultier's designs for La Perla combine the femininity and seductiveness of La Perla with Gaultier's bold styling. The line features waist-cinching corsets, slips, extra high briefs and bustiers, in black and pale pink with accents of coral and teal. The line also features pieces reminiscent of Gaultier's designs for Madonna, including her infamous pointed bra cups from the 1990 Blond Ambition tour. This exclusive collection will be available in January 2011 at La Perla boutiques nationwide, select department stores, Jean Paul Gaultier boutiques, and select high-end fashion stores.

La Prairie's $410 Platinum Facial

Filed under: Services, Spas, Cosmetics and Fragrance

La Prairie's $410 Platinum Facial
You can get a facial at almost any spa, and even in some nail and hair salons. But will it be platinum?

If you visit the spa at the Ritz-Carlton in NYC, it can be. Since the spring, the spa has been offering The Platinum Rare Facial, a 90-minute treatment that is priced at $410, typically including product samples. Add a 20% tip and you're at $500.

According to the "Vain Glorious" department in The New York Times's T Magazine, "This ultra-pampering facial is more like a spa manicure and pedicure, massage and facial in one. It's performed by both a nail technician and an aesthetician -- the former soaks, scrubs and swathes the extremities in the brand's lavish products while the latter massages the neck and shoulders in between steps of the main event: a customized facial using La Prairie's Platinum Collection (including Cellular Cream Platinum Rare, which retails for $650 per ounce)."

Before the treatment, guests are invited to relax in the upscale locker room and lounge, outfitted with cool and soothing marble, a steam room with a tub of ice and cucumbers waiting outside, and a corner with chairs, fresh fruit, and dried snacks. Then guests select the music they wish to be played during the treatment. The signature seems to be the application of Cellular Cream Platinum Rare at the end of what the the Ritz calls "an experience that transcends the ordinary in every way with age-defying benefits."

La Prairie: Cutting-Edge Beauty

La Prairie skin caviar cream
While some people flock to all-natural products, La Prairie knows that scientific advancement can be a very good thing for the skin. Cutting-edge, Switzerland-based La Prairie is nominated for a Readers' Choice Award in Best Bodycare Line.

La Prairie began as part of the innovative and world-famous Clinique brand, based in beautiful Montreux, Switzerland, but since 1982, Laboratoires La Prairie have been separate. Their scientific approach to beauty includes treatments which work on cellular levels, based around their patented Cellular Complex. The exclusive Cellular Complex is said to activate the skin's metabolism, prevent aging, increase the skin's moisture retention (the good kind) and give it longer life. Though powerful, it can be used on even the most delicate skin, and it is included in everything from their hand cream to eye cream.

We are particularly impressed with La Prairie's Skin Caviar Luxe Body Emulsion ($195 for 6.8 oz). This satin-light, rich emulsion gently exfoliates as it moisturizes, and actually makes the skin stronger against harsh environmental conditions like precipitation and wind. The marine-derived Cellular Body Emulsion works wonders for damaged skin, and the Cellular Energizing Body Spray firms and revitalizes while giving the user a boost of energy.

Natural creams and oils are certainly good for some, but there are those among us who want a little extra help from science, and our readers have spoken: Swiss La Prarie's products are at the top of their field. If messing around with such powerful elixirs concerns you, you can visit the La Prairie website for an online skin consultation to be sure you find the product that will give you the results you desire.

Vote for the bodycare line that you believe is the best of breed. The voting period runs through May 31st and winners will be announced on June 1.

La Prairie Adds Diamonds To Skincare

La Prairie's Skin Caviar Crystalline Concentrate isn't the most expensive product the company has ever launched (after all, last fall saw the launch of a $1,000 moisturizer) but it does give your skin an added shimmer through the addition of diamond, mica and quartz crystals. The nutrient rich serum promises to firm and plump with amino acids, plant extracts, peptides and caviar extracts as well as La Prairie's exclusive Cellular Complex. The serum sells for $375. They say that skincare is recession-proof but this is stretching it.

La Prairie Launches $1,000 Moisturizer, Won't Advertise

La Prairie, the luxe skincare company that's made addicts of many a wrinkle-averse lady who lunches, has introduced its latest jar of alchemy-promising cream: Cellular Cream Platinum Rare, which retails for $1,000. The cream purportedly adjusts to heat and humidity to maintain perfect moisture levels and will fight aging harder than Muhammad Ali.

The brand is relying on word of mouth instead of traditional advertising to inspire purchase, a marketing ploy which may backfire among those who are loathe to disclose such an extravagance amidst the economic crisis.

Available at all the usual suspects (Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman's, Saks, Holt Renfrew) or at laprairie.com.

La Prairie Special Edition Skin Cream

When it seems that the ingredients for pricey skin creams can't get anymore expensive, there is only one thing to do, fancy up the outside. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of La Prairie, they are packaging their Skin Caviar Luxe Cream in special Swarovski-encrusted jars. There are 645 50 ml jars available for an astronomical $2,000 each (the plain version can generally be found for around $345). The jar will be available at cosmetic counters in November.

La Prairie Pure Gold

There are so many anti-aging products on the market, but short of various chemical treatments, there are not all that many products designed to de-age the skin. La Prairie's Pure Gold is a Cellular Radiance Concentrate, a formula developed by the luxury cosmetics company to recapture the youth of the skin. The de-aging concentrate is a "microemulsion" of 24K gold micro-particles that "lifts, firms, resurfaces, brightens the skin." The bottle contains just one ounce, so it shouldn't take much to see results. Price: $525.
