Kobe Bryant's Aston Martin Edition Nike Hyperdunks

Value isn't a term typically bantered about by collectors. Value for such enthusiasts exists on a different plain. If something's a must-have, then they must have it, and that's the value. Take, for example, these special edition Nike Hyperdunk basketball shoes. Nike's only making 500 pair, and they're already trading for as much as $700.

So what makes these so special? Not the shoes themselves, but the feat they supposedly represent. A couple of years ago NBA all-star Kobe Bryant appeared in a video for Nike in which he appeared to have jumped over an Aston Martin roadster that was speeding right at him. In the middle of the playoffs, no less. Bryant looked to have cleared the car, and people went nuts. Of course it was all camera tricks, even if he actually is capable of theoretically pulling it off.

That's what these shoes celebrate. They've got Kobe's signature embossed on the inside of the tongue, and Aston Martin's winged logo on the outside. Are they worth seven bills? Well, that depends... to who?

Expensive Steak Dinners Start with Wagyu

With a mere 24 hours until all we United Statesians (right?) exercise our civic duty and vote our collective conscience in the midterm elections, what could be more downright Red White and Blue than energizing our lever-pulling (or button-pushing) muscles with an outrageously lavish steak dinner? These $33 per ounce (and up) cuts – that's over $250 for an 8-ouncer – come from a breed of cattle that are traditionally called "Wagyu", but have been dubbed "American Kobe" after a few herds have been imported to Idaho from rural Japan. These ultra-marbled cuts, which Chef de Cuisine David Varley refers to as having "an ungodly amount of fat", attain their lofty price from the lengthy raising period (up to four times longer than American Angus), special diets and, as legend suggests, a daily full-body message from their human handlers.

Bryan Rubino Glass

First Sonny and Cher. Then Justin and Britney. Then Kobe and Shaq.

It's clear that breaking up is hard to do.

As readers of the New York Times may know from yesterday's edition, the newest tiff is between famed Seattle glass artist Dale Chihuly and his former employee Bryan Rubino. Chihuly is suing Rubino for stealing his ideas.

Chihuly you've no doubt heard all about. He's the guy who makes -- among other creations -- the weird sea anemone-type glass chandeliers. He lit up Venice with his installations, and he's done the lobby of the Bellagio in Las Vegas. Robin Williams, Bill Gates and Bill Clinton all own Chihuly creations.

Rubino, the underdog in this story, is steadily producing lovely glassworks from his Shelton, Washington studio. This bumblebee-inspired glass vessel can be yours for $4100.
