Celebrity Real Estate Round-Up, 2010-- Who's Still On The Market?

The good news is that celebrity homes seem to sell more easily than your average luxury real estate. The bad news is that there a lot of celebrity homes still seeking a new buyer. I dug through my 2010 archives, month by month, to assess the damage and see who is still trying to sell.

Some celebrities including Mel Gibson, have tried a price cut of over a million. Others including Uma Thurman, Ricky Martin and Richard Chamberlain have held their ground and their properties have sat on the market for over six months. Sheryl Crow tried to take the auction route but failed to sell her Tennessee farm.

But of course the biggest celebrity real estate tail of woe for 2010 has to be Nicolas Cage. He managed to sell off his New York apartment and his Las Vegas house but saw two New Orleans homes and his Bel Air mansion fall to foreclosure. His Rhode Island home, shown above, is still on the market for $7.75 million, a far cry from the $15.7 million he paid for it.

A look at every celebrity home listing we covered in 2010 with updated results is after the jump.

Ken Lewis in Charlotte, Estate of the Day

kenneth d lewisThose suffering in the real estate market might take some comfort in the fact that they are in the same boat with former Bank of America chief executive Kenneth D. Lewis who has two homes on the market both now deeply discounted. Of course Lewis has an advantage most of us don't, a multimillion dollar retirement plan.

We previously covered Lewis's struggle to sell the South Carolina vacation home he and his wife bought with Dennis Thompson, founder and CEO of Charlotte, N.C.-based restaurant operator Firebirds International in 2002 for $3 million. This home has been on and off the market for the past couple of years and has been listed at $2.975 million since November 2009.

Today's estate is the home that Lewis and his wife Donna are trying to sell in Charlotte, North Carolina, the headquarters of Bank of America. The home has been on the market for around four months and has already had a major price cut of more than 20 percent. The Wall Street Journal's Private Properties reports that Lewis's wife, Donna, bought the four-bedroom home in 2003 for $1.7 million. The home in the Morrocroft Estates subdivision went through a major renovation in 2004. The four-bedroom home is on 1.27 acres. The master suite has his and hers dressing rooms and bathrooms. The home also has a chefs kitchen with paneled walls, three car garage and formal gardens. This home is now listed at $3.999 million.

Ken Lewis Still Trying To Sell His South Carolina Home

Last month, the Wall Street Journal mentioned that Bank of America chief executive Kenneth D. Lewis was having trouble selling his vacation home in South Carolina. Today with Lewis in the news for his testimony in Washington D.C. it's a good time to revisit this charming summer home. Mr. Lewis bought the home with Dennis Thompson, founder and CEO of Charlotte, N.C.-based restaurant operator Firebirds International in 2002 for $3 million.

The charming home was designed by Mark P. Finlay and featured in the June 2000 issue of Architectural Digest. It has three bedrooms and 5,734 square feet of space. It includes antique heart pine and English limestone flooring, a large screening room and a two-car garage with office and security system. The home is located adjacent to a 400-acre nature preserve and has a deepwater dock. It went on the market last year then was pulled off the market but now it is back on and the price was recently cut to $3.3 million meaning that this home likely won't offer much of a return on his investment for Lewis.

UPDATE: As of November 2009, this home is listed at $2.975 million.
