Designer Preparing Fashionable Plastic Shoes

moschino kartell bowwow shoesJelly shoes and Crocs have given plastic shoes a bit of a bad name but Moschino and Kartell have joined forces to make plastic fantastic once again. The design company and the fashion brand worked together on new versions of Philippe Starck's Mademoiselle chairs and now they have collaborated on the BowWow shoes, a set of brightly colored lightweight ballet flats with a flirty Moschino bow. The completely plastic shoes with an interwoven design come in a wide range of colors and are 100 percent recyclable. The shoes are for spring/summer 2010- 11 and will be on sale at the start of next year.

Optic Storage Cubes

Similar in look to the container baskets they introduced a few months ago, Kartell's new Optic Storage Cubes are designed by Patick Jouin, made of a type of transparent plastic and come in a variety of colors. The jewel-like colors are further enhanced by the pyramidal relief pattern on the outside of the boxes. The interior of the boxes is smooth. The modular units, which can be stacked up to four high, are available with or without doors and can be arranged in any number of ways, whether you only need a single stack or want to fill up a wall. Each cube measures 41cm per side. Price: £119 without door, or £140 with door).

Bourgie Lamp

Black lights are often only put to use around Halloween, but this particular rendition of the concept - an entirely black light, as opposed to a black light bulb - is suitable for year-round use. The Bourgie Lamp was designed by Ferruccio Laviani for Kartell. Though it at first appears to be a fairly traditional baroque-style lamp, it is made out of high-quality, transparent polycarbonate, so the light shines through the entire piece. If black just isn't your thing, the lamp is also available in clear. In either color, the height of the lamp can be adjusted to 27, 29 or 31 inches. Price: $287.

Kartell Container Baskets

Kartell is scheduled to release some very practical, but attractive, container baskets later this month. The baskets measure 24-in in diameter by 9-in high and were designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec and are sold in sets of four, which are stackable. Each set comes with a transparent lid to top it off and, when assembled, the stack can be used as a table or nightstand. All of the baskets are made of polycarbonate and are available in eight jewel-like colors. Price: $271.
