McAfee Mansion Back Up For Sale At Lowest Price Yet

Recently I started seeing search results showing up for a home we covered back in 2007. Why were people looking for information on the McAfee mansion in Woodland Park, Colorado? It turns out that it is back on the market for the lowest price I've seen it at yet.

We first checked out this home in 2007 when it still belonged to antivirus software developer John McAfee. McAfee sold his 280-acre Colorado estate at auction. The property included his 10,000-square-foot mansion perched on a hillside. The home has a flagstone entry with split staircase, five master suites, a living room, great room and den, media room, library and fitness center. The master suite has a private entry, kitchen, fireplace and access to a glass balcony which leads to a wooden gazebo. The compound has three guest homes, two guest apartments and nine guest cabins for a total of 19 bedrooms. The property includes four trout lakes, observation decks, picnic areas, a horse paddock and more. At the time we heard that McAfee was looking to get around $20 million. Instead, it sold at auction for $5.72 million and was back on the market the same year for $8.9 million. In 2009 there were rumors of foreclosure and talk that it might be used as a transition center for war veterans.

It's currently on the market for the lowest price yet, $3.9 million. The listing pictures don't seem to have changed much in the ensuing years. The home is a mixture of styles with Frank-Lloyd-Wright-inspired public spaces as well as Southwestern and modern notes. With the acreage and cabins already in place it could make an excellent retreat center or family compound.
