R13 Sweat Jeans

Comfort is key when getting dressed. That's a no brainer. But many of us, including myself, forgo comfort to somehow squeeze our bodies into a piece that we most certainly know will instill pain.

The pair of sexy jeans that are so tight, you avoid sitting at all costs. Or the "gotta have it" high heels that forces our toes to look like they have taken on another life form. And when you take (insert painful article of clothing or accessory here) off, it feels so good that you swear you'll never put yourself through that again, but knowing that you really will. It's insane what we put ourselves through for the love of fashion.

HUDSON Jeans Men's Collection - Ladies, Get Your Man These

HUDSON Men's Jeans
There are a lot of men out there who are uncomfortable shopping for jeans. There are so many different styles available, it boggles the mind. As a result, they often order "that looks normal" men's jeans online or just get the same ones their mom bought them in high school. This does not exactly ... make for hotness.

Ladies, it's the holidays. It's time to get your man some proper jeans. This is beneficial for both of you. Check out our gallery of our favorites from HUDSON Jeans, the same denim company who brought us the $995 custom jeans earlier this year (What makes Hudson Denim Resurrection Jeans worth $995? -- don't worry they don't cost that much). Be sure and visit (or have him visit) the Fit Guide before purchasing.

And ladies, even if you aren't looking for men's jeans today, we recommend you check out this gallery anyway. Consider it an early Happy Holidays from Luxist to you.

Upscale Denim: Look to North Korea for Fall Jeans Fashion

With the latest in up-market jeans being readied for release, it's exciting to see what's in the pipeline. In this crowded space, look for the biggest noise to be made not by any fashion company you've pined over. Rather, the hottest denim on the market could be coming from the most unexpected place on earth ... by way of Scandinavia.

According to Financial Times, "As clean silhouettes and the much-feted new minimalism shape the autumn trends, it looks like denim will take an equally reductive route: out with slashed, stonewash, fussy 1980s styles and in with the basics." And you'll find this manufactured in North Korea.

FT continues:
Two years ago, a trio of young, twenty-something Swedes were invited by the government into North Korea to manufacture a national jeans line. Really. "Noko", as it was named, features two jeans styles for men and women: the Kara slim-fit and the Oke loose-fit ($215 plus shipping), both straight-cut and dark-wash, in keeping with the austere nightscapes of the designers' inspiration, Pyongyang.

The Noko styles are consistent with what is expected for autumn:

"For autumn, denim is very customer-friendly," says Lesley Torson of Trilogy, a London denim boutique. "It's dark, and washes are quite clean, giving it a more polished look." Meanwhile, the advent of styles such as the utilitarian cargo with convenient side pockets, the forgiving high-rise cut, and the faithful indigo boot-cut flare will offer something the premium jeans world hasn't seen for years: wearability.

We've been following young Georgia May Jagger's career with considerable interest since she first broke into the modeling scene in the summer of 2008. Since then Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall's genetically gifted offspring scored a gig as the face of Versace and posed for luxury denim brand Hudson Jeans. Now Georgia May has been tapped for Hudson's newest ad campaign as well, shot by Mario Sorrenti at Alder Manor, a restored 1912 mansion in Yonkers, New York. The sexy snaps are some of the young stunner's most provocative yet, with Jagger posing topless in most of the shots. "Georgia May is a true embodiment of the spirit of the Hudson brand," Ben Taverniti, creative director of Hudson Jeans, tells Vogue UK. "She doesn't try, she's just cool. She has that certain Je ne sais quoi."

What Makes Hudson Denim Resurrection Jeans Worth $995?

One-of-a-kind bluesHudson Jeans, a denim company with celebrity fans including Sandra Bullock, Pink and Gisele Bündchen, has a new concept hitting stores this month: one-of-a-kind, hand-cut and hand-sewn jeans, available at your usual fine retailers for the steep price of $995.. They may not be bespoke, but the result is the same; you can find a pair that's uniquely "you," whether that means sideways back pockets and zippers everywhere or whitewashed denim with artfully placed seams in unusual places, and be certain no one else will have the same pair of blues.

The collection is called Resurrection (right), and comes at a premium price of $995 per pair (most Hudson denim goes for $215 to $325). We chatted with designer Ben Taverniti (below), who has been creating couture pieces featured in the likes of French Vogue since age 19, about the collection, his philosophies and all things Hudson Jeans.

Luxist: What makes Hudson jeans so special and worth so much more than other brands?

Benjamin Taverniti: The Spring/Summer 2010 HUDSON Collection is the ultimate expression of the HUDSON brand consisting of four distinct groups - Minimalist, D.I.Y., Subversion and Resurrection (each jean is one of a kind). We source our fabric from the finest mills in Japan and Italy. Design, construction, and quality are our utmost priority.

L: How has your notorious couture past influenced the way you design jeans?

BT: It's trained my eye to be extremely critical and precise with fits, which is the most important thing when it comes to denim.

L: Do you have any advice for men and women who want to look hot in their jeans? What should they look for?

BT: Jeans do not make you ... you make the jeans ... Style should be fearless and confident.

Rock & Republic Files Chapter 11

rock and republic jeansBad news for fashion brand Rock & Republic. The Los Angeles-based company famous for pricey jeans with embellished pockets has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The company plans to continue business as usual and is taking the Chapter 11 opportunity to reorganize and as the LA Times puts it, explore financial relationships, otherwise known as finding friends with deep pockets.

The brand was founded by Michael Ball in 2002. It gained attention for partnering with Victoria Beckham for a line of pricey denim with a crown on the rear. The brand expanded from clothing into sunglasses, handbags and cosmetics but quotes from Geoffrey D. Lurie, the company's newly named chief restructuring officer, indicate that the company will be focusing more on its core apparel and footwear businesses. At the start of 2009 Michael Ball told the AP that "the days of the $300 jeans are gone." Rock & Republic then launched the Limited Edition Recession Collection selling jeans for under $150. They haven't dropped the decadence entirely though, the Crazy B!@#H jeans shown here in Dementia Black sell for $385.

Luxist Visits the Denim-meisters at London's MQT Jeans

Luxist had been hanging out in London for a while when the men's-only denim brand MQT was brought to our attention. The denim business on the 'sceptered isle is just as intense as it is in NYC and every VIP section in LA, probably because the English take their various senses of style so... gravely... and because jeans are bloody expensive. That $250 pair of True Religion jeans scored at Fred Segal is £250 when you drive on the other side of the road. Which is $390. An inexpensive pair of jeans is $100. And that's real money.

We dropped in on MQT's central command hoping for a lesson in denim and a look at what are being called not the next big thing, but simply a big thing, period. What we got was not only a good lesson and a brilliant look, but a pair of loose fit jeans and the certitude that we'll be back buying more...

Noko Jeans Are Back! Temporary Home in Denmark

Nothing about Noko Jeans has been simple. You have to expect this, of course, when you're using labor in North Korea to manufacture a product for sale in the west. Of course, the Noko guys seemed to have an edge over the rest of the western world, since they're from Sweden, the only country in Europe that has diplomatic relations with the reclusive regime. In fact, Sweden represents the United States in Pyongyang, too.

Well, it didn't work all that smoothly. The fashion company was booted from Swedish retailer PUB. Then, it had to close its "museum" (i.e., boutique) in Stockholm. It looked like the company would only be able to live on in the virtual world, as an online retailer.

Thanks to the Danes, however, the situation has changed, even if only temporarily. Until Sunday (February 14, 2010), Noko Jeans will be at the Gallery International Fashion Fair in Copenhagen, Denmark, showcasing the Kara Slim Fit and Oke Loose Fit jeans. The company's also offering "some interesting sneak peeks of the future of Noko Jeans," it said in a statement.

The Noko "road show" was inspired by the response the company has received following its recent travails. In a statement, founders Jacob Åström, Jakob Ohlsson and Tor Rauden Källstigen said, "There's only so many e-mails and phone calls we can respond to, so we decided to take Noko Jeans on the road. The first stop, at Gallery during the fashion week in Copenhagen, felt very natural as it is very close and very awesome."

And, the hunt for space isn't over yet. The founders say, "Our hopes and ambitions with Gallery is to find new and great places where our story can be told, both in Scandinavia and the rest of the world."

NoKo Jeans Closes Stockholm Museum

The NoKo Jeans Museum is now closed.

Well, it's not really a museum – that's just what the company called its space at Vartoftagatan 47 in Stockholm ... but that's irrelevant. NoKo Jeans is now closed for good. For NoKo Jeans, just coming into existence was difficult, and the company never really got the traction it needed. It's relationship with Swedish department store PUB ended swiftly and badly, and now it's closed its other location.

The reason for all the difficulty is that NoKo Jeans are made exactly where you'd guess: North Korea. Sweden is one of the few western countries the only western country that maintains diplomatic relations with the isolated state, which made it easier for a Swedish country to get the venture off the ground.

If you still want a pair of the People's Jeans (as I do), you can still order them online. The museum may be gone, but you still can show your solidarity with the workers of the world.

Emporio Armani Creates Made In California Jeans

We've reached a point yet again where items that aren't shipped in from China or elsewhere have a new appeal for the consumer. Emporio Armani's going made in the USA for a new line of jeans. The Spring/Summer 2010 collection will include "Made in California" jeans that are at least partially made in Los Angeles. The LA Times reports that there will be four styles of jeans ( two for men and two for women) with red, white and blue leather labels, brushed white enamel rivets, and special hangtags. The jeans sell for $195 and ar available at Emporio Armani stores but not online. Come February, the men's styles will also be at Saks Fifth Avene and Bloomingdale's.

Swedes Skittish on the People's Jeans

HELLO IT'S Noko Jeans! from Noko Jeans on Vimeo.

Novelty isn't enough to keep the latest in Swedish jeans on store shelves. Noko, which debuted last week, is an upscale brand with an unusual twist -- it's made by people who could never partake in the style. The jeans are manufactured in North Korea, where access to jeans is rare at best.

Swedish department store PUB, decided to stop selling the jeans in order to avoid controversy. After all, who'd want to be associated with the land of Kim Jong Il? The department store's management claims it didn't know of the jeans' origin and killed the deal as soon as it learned of the North Korea connection. Sweden is effectively the western world's envoy to Pyongyang.

Rene Stephansen, PUB's director, told The Associated Press, "For us, this is not a question of Noko Jeans - this is a question about a political issue that PUB doesn't want to be associated with." He continued, "This is not the forum for the discussion."

Noko Jeans was developed by three Swedish entrepreneurs who wanted to engage North Korea, end the isolation ... and probably capitalize on the Communist mystique. The jeans are only available in black, and they aren't cheap. One pair will set you back $215 a pop!

The plan was that Noko Jeans would be sold at Aplace, a store within the PUB store, according to Stephansen. Aplace isn't on board with PUB's decision, calling it "a bit cowardly."

Mick Jagger's Daughter Stars in Sexy New Ad Campaign

Last summer we reported that Mick Jagger's beautiful daughter Georgia May Jagger was embarking on a modeling career, following in the fashionable footsteps of the rocker's other daughters, Jade and Elizabeth. Now the 17-year-old Georgia May, whose mother is Texan stunner Jerry Hall, has landed a sexy ad campaign for Hudson Jeans (above) evoking Brigitte Bardot. Georgia May, who has one year of school left and lives with her mother in London, tells the October issue of Vanity Fair that modeling is just a temporary gig for her while she tries to break into art, design and photography. With her genes that shouldn't be too hard. As for her sexy poses, she tells the mag that daddy Mick "doesn't hate it at all."
