Jaeger-LeCoultre Launches Online Service To Personalize Reverso Watches

A few years ago this would have never been something a high-end conservative watch brand like Jaeger-LeCoultre would have dreamed of doing. Traditionally, services like watch customization and personalization were to be done in a chic boutique with an authorized dealer over a glass of champagne and cookies. Now that model has changed and brands realize that people want to shop at home online.

The iconic Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso has a case that flips around to reveal a solid caseback - offering a perfect palette for personalization. The new Reverso customization website allows customers to pick a watch and create any number of custom engravings and art on the back of a Reverso watch. This includes a large number of pre-selected options, as well as truly customizable engravings and enamel work. Options include having initials, a special message, coat of arms, imagery, or anything else that fits on the space. You can even have precious stones set in the back of the watch case.

The website uses a Flash based application for navigation and is rather straight forward. Really a fun thing to play around with and choose your ideal personalized Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso watch.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Geographic Watch For 2011

Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Geographic Watch For 2011

While not totally new, the 2011 Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Geographic is a refresh of the popular world time watch from the popular Swiss watch maker. With slicker face that feels more refined in its presentation, the watch still offers a valuable features set. Aside from the time, the watch offers the date, power reserve indication for the movement, and has a full featured world time. The world time function even has allowances for cities that rely on daylight saving times. The second time zone that is associated with the city selector at the bottom of the dial is shown on a subsidiary time dial that is in a 12 hour format. Next to the dial is a small 24 hour indictor that functions as an AM/PM indicator so that you know whether it is day or night in that other city.

Operating the functions is rather effortless, with Jaeger-LeCoultre almost perfecting the experience of having a straight forward world timer. Inside the watch is a JLC in-house made Calibre 939 automatic movement. The steel or 18k pink gold case remains modest in size at 39mm wide - though JLC does offer larger, more sporty models with similar functions. The watch comes on black or brown alligator strap. The Master Geographic has a lovely, timeless appeal that suits the regular traveler well - and is even nicer for 2011.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso Ultra Thin Tribute To 1931 Watch

It was only a matter of time before Jaeger-LeCoultre did a "heritage" version of their already "in the past" Reverso watch. A timeless classic, the Reverso has come in dozens of versions, becoming one of the brand's most signature timepieces. As the name of this new "Tribute" watch suggests, the original Reverso watch was released in 1931. The idea behind it was to be a timepiece that could be worn while playing polo - but that would also be less susceptible to damage given that watch crystals were made of glass back then.

The design gave the rectangular case the ability to flip over while wearing the watch. When turned over, the original Reverso had an all metal surface where the watch face would be. This space was also popular for custom engravings and personalized messages. At least one professional polo player told me that you would not want to wear a watch during a serious polo match. I think that is obvious to most people, but the Reverso really hasn't been about that in decades.

Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX2 DB9 Transponder

Filed under: Timepieces / Watches, Luxury Cars & Autos

With digital time readouts appearing on just about everything these days, you need a darn good reason to wear a wristwatch. Style is reason enough if you ask us, but Jaeger-LeCoultre figures the wealthy could use a bit more functionality. Hence the AMVOX2 Transponder watch.

Hidden inside the timepiece is a micro-transmitter that can lock, unlock and locate your car. The watch has already been released for Aston Martin's DBS and Rapide models, and is now joined by the DB9 model. Simply touch where it says "open" on the watch face to unlock the doors, "close" to lock it again or hit both to activate the headlights to help you locate it. Of course you'll need an Aston Martin for it to work with, and another nearly $25,000 for the watch itself. But can you really put a price on feeling like James Bond when you're already driving his car?

Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Compressor Diving Navy SEALs Incursion Edition Watch

Such a long name for a watch! Get through all the confusion, and realize that this is a special limited edition version for the Beverly Hill Jaeger-LeCoultre boutique store, of the Master Compress Diving Navy SEALS watch from 2009. There will be a 19 pieces in black titanium and 62 models in gray PVD titanium. Why those amounts? Because together that makes "1962" which is the year the Navy SEALs were born. For tech details about the watch, you can refer to my earlier article on the Master Compressor Diving Navy SEALs watch here.

This is my favorite model in their line up of watches made in partnership with the Navy SEALs. This model is 44mm wide with a manufacture automatic mechanical movement with an alarm complication. According to JLC, this Incursion Edition of the watch has some very minor little changes that further refine the timepiece. The new models here come in either yellow or orange accents. Black is mixed with yellow, with the gray version is mixed with orange. Very sporty and "look at me" for a watch tested by an arm of the military known for stealth. Ironic right? Given the beautiful, almost summery design of these watches and the JLC pedigree, I can't see them waiting to be sold for very long. Once again, they are exclusively available at the Beverly Hill Jaeger-LeCoultre boutique store.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Tourbillon Wild, Art Deco Watch

Each year luxury Swiss watch brand Jaeger-LeCoultre releases a few so called "jewelry watches." These rare creations for both men and woman are experiments in (often) excess, and design. This is where to look if you prefer your watches diamond covered, but also where you'll find some beautiful artistic creations. For 2010 one of the haute jewelry watch from Jaeger-LeCoutlre is the Master Tourbillon Wild. In an 18k rose (also in white) gold case, the piece is really quite stunning. Decorated with diamonds on the bezel and the lower edges of the case and bezel, it fees like a building outlined with lights. The art deco style motif on the dial feels like an abstract cityscape to me. The buildings emanating from the tourbillon in the center. More diamonds decorate the ring around the tourbillon aperture, in addition to other places on the dial. Inside the piece is a in-house made Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 978 automatic tourbillon movement. Likely sized for ladies, this is a rare and beautiful creation.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Grande Tradition Grande Complication Watch

So many words in the title of this watch. I easily imagine a Frenchman with white gloves on presenting the watch to me while announcing its title as though it was as a lord of a French province. And for some reason I find myself bowing. What will be one of Jaeger-LeCoultre's rare creations is this almost magically marvelous looking Master Grande Tradition Grande Complication watch. A watch so grand, "grande" was used in its name twice. Highly limited in production, this piece will have a number of fascinating technical feats in addition to its awe inspiring look. The watch is limited to just 75 pieces and will come in a 44mm wide 18k white gold case. Announced earlier this year, the watch is closer to now being released.

Its dial is blue lacquer with an amazing astronomical and zodiac design. The only phrase I can use to describe it is "sky ocean." The dauphine hands are the right size and easy to read, while there is a chapter ring around the inner dial so that telling the time is possible. Inside the watch is the amazing Jaeger-LeCoultre made caliber 945 manually wound movement that is made up of 527 parts! It has a special "high audio" minute repeater exclusive to JLC, which also gives the watch 50 meters of water resistance (most minute repeater watches have little to no water resistance). On the dial you can see a one-minute flying tourbillon - that itself doubles as a sideral (true day) indicator. The tourbillon moves around the entire dial of the watch once each 23 hours, 56 minutes, and 4.091 seconds - the same time it takes the earth to turn around when viewing fixed stars in the sky. However, there is a true 24 hour indicator represented by the small sun on the dial. This moves around the dial once each 24 hours. Cool right? With the astronomical, tourbillon, and minute repeater complication, this is one amazing JLC watch that will surely be a hit with collectors in the years to come. Certainly priced well into the six figure range.

Tony Stark Chooses Jaeger-LeCoultre Watches In Iron Man 2 Movie

robert downey irnonman jaeger-lecoultre
Tony Stark has two sidekicks in Iron Man 2, War Machine and Jaeger-LeCoultre. The popular luxury Swiss watch makers watch selected as the timepiece of choice on Robert Downey Jr.'s wrist as he played character Tony Stark in the newest installment of Iron Man. In the sequel, when Iron Man is not in his sophisticated mechanical suit, he is wearing a sophisticated mechanical watch. There are at least three different Jaeger-LeCoultre watches adorning Downey Jr.'s wrist in the film. Paramount of which is the new limited edition AMVOX3 GMT Tourbillon watch in platinum. See my other post on the matter for the other Jaeger-LeCoultre watches Tony Stark gets to show off in Iron Man 2 here.

The AMVOX series of watch is part of a partnership between Jaeger-LeCoultre and Aston Martin, but none of those cars are in the movie - as the film features Audi automobiles. Regardless, the style and pedigree of the AMVOX3 fits in perfectly well with the character's technical aptitude, flamboyant demeanor, and preference for mechanical goodness. The only disappointment to most movie viewers is the good looking watch is for the high-luxury buyer owner. At least Iron Man's timepiece is technically within reach as his suit of armor is only available in Hollywood form (for now).

Aston Martin AMVOX5 World Chronograph by Jaeger-LeCoultre

aston martin amvox5 world chronograph
Of all the automotive/watchmaking collaborations, few stand the test as well as that between Aston Martin and Jaeger-LeCoultre. The partnership has yielded an unparalleled range of timepieces. And the two have now teamed up again for their fifth collaboration, the AMVOX5 World Chronograph.

Driven by Jaeger's own in-house Calibre 752 movement, the AMVOX5 packs a column wheel, vertical clutch chronograph complication with a ceramic ball-bearing mechanism that obviates the need for lubrication. It's encased in either ceramic and titanium (300 examples) or 18-karat rose gold (200 examples), and will be joined by two 100-unit limited edition racing versions in the near future.

Aston Martin Rapide Watch Key

Aston Martin Rapide Watch Key
No more fumbling around looking for car keys or lugging chunky and unattractive key fobs around for owners of the new Aston Martin Rapide as Jaeger-LeCoultre has partnered with the car-maker to come out with this stylish AMVOX2 Transponder Rapide, a timepiece that does double-duty as a car key. Simply touch between the 8 and 9 to unlock, between the 3 and 4 to lock, or touch them both simultaneously to trigger the 'find me' feature where the headlamps light up for easy spotting.

The AMVOX2 Transponder Rapide is the result of over 18 months of research and engineering to miniaturize the car's transponder key in order to fit it into and around the workings of a timepiece without sacrificing style, and it can be yours for just £21,850 (or about $33,800).

Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Memovox Watch For 2010

The Jaeger-LeCoultre legend from 1956 is back. 2010 sees the release of a brand new Master Memovox automatic alarm watch. Traditional styling abounds, sure to appeal to purists and fans of the brand's traditional offerings. While the styling and functions are retro-chic, the construction of the watch and reliability are all modern. Inside the watch is a in-house made Jaeger-LeCoultre Caliber 956 automatic mechanical movement with the time, date, and the alarm function. The alarm is set via the upper crown using the internal rotating disc which has a single hand that points to the time. Precise to within a few minutes. The alarm is actually impressively loud with a comfortable sounding noise sure to get your attention but not annoy you. To this day certain alarm sounds give me unpleasant thoughts about waking up too early for high school. Which is why these days I only wake up to the sounds of elephants trumpeting before an aggressive territorial charge. It's like waking up in nature.

The dial is so "Master Compressor" you'll feel right at home if you are a fan of the line. It has been copied a 100 times by others, but no one does it quite like Jaeger-LeCoultre. The watch comes in a respectable 40mm wide case in either steel or 18k pink gold. 30 meters of water resistance and a sapphire crystal. Check the images below for a glimpse of the nicely engraved caseback that surely wasn't part of the 1956 classic. Available soon. Price is $9,600 in steel and $20,350 in pink gold.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Duometre a Quantieme Lunaire Watch

For 2010 the mighty Jaeger-LeCoultre has a brand new foudroyante style watch with the Duometre a Quantieme Lunaire. An update to previous models, the watch adds a moonphase indicator (done visually as well as via a hand on a dial for better precision in reading it), and some partial skeletonization of the dial. Aside from the date, moon phase indication, and time, the foudroyante complication is a strange beast. The watch is dedicated to the ability to precisely set the time (simply speaking it resets to zero when you pull out the crown as well as lets you see when to start it again properly). The lower subsidiary dial is a crazy contraption as it has a hand that moves around the dial in 1/6 of a second increments. Thus, the little hand moves around the dial once each second! Meaning that it is always moving really fast. The large hand in the center of the watch is the second hand for the time moving around the dial each minute. You then have the time itself show smaller on the right of the dial.

Because of the enormous amount of power required by the constant movement of the foudroyante complication, the Duometre a Quantieme Lunaire Watch has two power reserve indicators for different mainspring barrels. One is for the foudroyante, and the other is for the rest of the watch. The power reserve indicators are viewable through the skeletonized part of the dial. Proud of this in-house movement, Jaeger-LeCoultre places the movement name of "Cal. (caliber) 381" on a little plate right on the dial. This place is used to indicate the limited edition number in those pieces) The case is 42mm wide in either a limited edition of 300 pieces yellow gold model, or a standard pink gold model. The Duometre a Quantieme Lunaire Watch is indicative of a purist Jaeger-LeCoultre watch model in form and complication. Certainly a unique style of watch for serious horology fans or collectors. Price is about $35,000.

Jaeger-LeCoultre: Complex and Creative

A perennially favored brand among the watch loving elite, Jaeger-LeCoultre, which is nominated for a Luxist Award, has one of the most industrious movement making arms of any haute horology watch maker. They currently hold the record for making the most complex wrist watch in the world, the $2.5 million Hybris Mechanic Grande Sonnerie, and also have a brand history that is deeply bedded with tradition.

Complex watches are a favored news item for the brand as their talented engineers toil ceaselessly at the next most visually and intellectually stimulating luxury creation. In addition to the most complex watches, Jaeger-LeCoultre is known for making the smallest mechanical watch movements as well as producing the famous Atmos clock, with a unique almost perpetual movement that is powered by tiny changes in air temperature. Still strong after over 175 years, the brand continues to inspire and surprise watch lovers by releasing creative new timepieces regularly.

Jaeger-LeCoultre has been fortunate enough to be adopted by both watch and fashion lovers. While many Jaeger-LeCoultre watches (such as the broad Master Compressor collection) are modern in style, the brand is best known for timeless icons such as the Reverso double-sided watch line. Such classics are often favored among the fashion and performance elite with Jaeger-LeCoultre being one of the hottest names (no one can quite pronounce) in the Hollywoods of the world.

Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX2 Racing Paris Chronograph for Aston Martin

Filed under: Timepieces / Watches, Luxury Cars & Autos

Between Panerai and Ferrari, Breitling and Bentley and the countless other watchmaker-automaker collaborations, few are as convincing as Jaeger-LeCoultre and Aston Martin. The former's timepieces are every bit as alluring and finely-crafted as the latter's sportscars, but this has to be the finest yet.

The second of two special edition racing chronographs, the Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX2 Chronograph Racing Paris honors Aston's considerable Le Mans racing prowess. It features JLC's own 751E movement, just five and a half millimeters thick and an innovative system that allows the wearer to lock and unlock the doors of an Aston sportscar right from the watch itself. Pretty trick, and while there are many editions of the AMVOX2 available, only 24 examples of this particular one will be produced, available exclusively from the Jaeger-LeCoultre boutique on Place Vendome in Paris.

Jaeger LeCoultre Master Memovox Watch For 2010

Another classic reborn - Jaeger-LeCoultre is due to release a brand new retro styled version of its famed Memovox alarm watch. In the 1950s the original Memovox was popular for being and alarm watch with an automatic mechanical movement. The new Master Memovox will also have an automatic movement - the newer Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 956. It has a power reserve of 45 hours, ceramic ball bearings for the automatic rotor that needs no lubrication, and the time, date, and alarm of course.

The watch itself will come in 18k rose gold or steel in a 40mm wide case. Styling is classic of course - maybe too much so. It doesn't feel "different" enough in the current lineup in my opinion. The alarm function is easy to operate using the a separate crown that rotates an inner ring. The alarm most likely needs to be pulled out for the alarm function to be turned on. I would feel very excited about the watch is the geniuses at Jaeger-LeCoultre were able to give the alarm a snooze function. Until then, you'll have to keep a butler around for that need. "Just five more minutes Alfred!" The new Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Memovox watch will be officially announced in 2010 at SIHH.
