Big news in the jewelry world, WWD reports that Jacob Arabo, founder of Jacob & Co., and famous for being Jacob the Jeweler to rap stars has been arrested on federal charges. Arabo was indicted in "a superseding indictment of 16 individuals with violating federal drug laws, which include laundering in excess of $270,000,000 in U.S. currency." Wow, let's just ponder that for a moment, $270 million. Arabo is charged with giving and lending jewelry to members of the "Black Mafia Family," a drug organization. Bye Bye Bling

Is bling over? That's the word from Robin Givhan who writes in the Washington Post that the use, overuse and abuse of the world bling might be coming to an end. Rappers like 50 Cent, Nelly and Missy Elliot who draped themselves in diamonds and rapped about the treats available at Jacob the Jewelers have all taken a turn toward the understated. No one is giving up their diamonds or turning in their glittering watches anytime soon but the article says that the over-the-top focus on flash is over. It makes me wonder if we should pull a Lloyd Grove and banish the world bling from this website. But then we'd need a new word for all those sparkle-sparkle, shine-shine items that we come across so often. Who's with me? Should we ditch bling?
