Riviera Nayarit - Mexico's New Riviera Destination

You've doubtlessly heard of -- and perhaps been to -- Puerto Vallarta. Well, just north of there, along central Mexico's Pacific coast, is the state of Nayarit. The coast runs from the tony all-inclusive resorts of Nuevo Vallarta (very near to Puerto Vallarta in the southern part of the state), through the elite and fabulously expensive Punta Mita and up through a series of seaside enclaves catering to all classes of tourists, ending in the sleepy town of San Blas. This coastal region has recently been designated "Riviera Nayarit" and has all the makings of an up-and-coming luxury destination -- and if you're in the market for a vacation home, this area could be your best investment. Let me take you through a couple of the highlights, from the famous polo field in the hipster community to the exclusive resort where the governor likes to stay (no really, he was there when I was, and it wasn't his first time).

Jack Nicklaus Debuts New Wine Label

Golf legend Jack Nicklaus and Terlato Wines have released a new line of Nicklaus-branded wines. The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2007 Private Reserve, a Bordeaux-style blend, are getting their public debut at the Jack Nicklaus-hosted Memorial Tournament, being played June 3-6 at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio.

The Cabernet Sauvignon was created from premium parcels of fruit in the Rutherford Bench district of Napa Valley while the Private Reserve used grapes from selected sites in Stags Leap. There are 500 cases of each wine, the Cabernet sells for $35 and the Private Reserve has a retail price of $43.

Nicklaus is a long-time wine collector. He and his sons, Jack II and Gary, visited the Terlato-owned vineyards in California to meet with TWI Chairman and Founder Anthony Terlato and his sons, Bill and John. Nicklaus joins a long tradition of golfer wines that include offerings from Arnold Palmer, Ernie Els, Nick Faldo and Greg Norman. The Classicist: LINCS by David Chu for the Gentleman Explorer

One of our favorite menswear collections for fall is from preternaturally stylish Nautica founder David Chu's LINCS line, which he relaunched earlier this year as a full sportswear collection. The name is of course derived from golf, but Chu has expanded its horizons considerably this season. He aptly describes it as "a modern expression of style inspired by a life in and out of the country club - of travel, of sport, of classic chic." The theme of the fall collection is a modern take on the "gentleman explorer," characterized by classic rugged yet elegant styling in a color palette of loden, navy, and charcoal, with fabrics like waxed cotton, cashmere, wool and flannel.

"LINCS is grounded in authentic, classic style, but updated with details and textures men can relate to," Chu notes. "Many of our shirts for example have a contrast color / pattern detail that's subtle. You'll find a surprising detail or color at the cuff, on a collar, or the inside liner. Part of the LINCS concept is the fusion of sporty, easy authentic looks together with performance fabrics and the technical. In outerwear, you'll see a classic piece like a blazer, but designed with quilted nylon and stuffed with down for a look that's rugged and elegant." Also worth noting are the very reasonable price points. Outerwear is between $199 - $399, sweaters are about $119 - $129, shirts are $89 - $99, pants are $79 - $89, available at select Nordstrom, Dillard's and specialty stores.

Key looks include a military style parka in waxed cotton with a sheared rabbit collar (above), a blazer-style coat made of quilted waxed cloth, a loden cashmere cardigan with a leather buckle at the collar, a tan safari-style parka with a removable navy liner, and a quilted navy nylon rip-stop down-filled blazer with suede detailing under the collar. "When I named it LINCS, people automatically thought it was a golf line, but it's not," Chu notes. "LINCS is about sport, about design, and more importantly, this person's lifestyle and an extension of it, which includes easy pieces that can be tailored and elegant, but mixed in with more casual elements for a dressy, but sporty look."

Chu also has his eponymous David Chu Bespoke line, featured in The Classicist's "Best of Men's Style" roundup, a custom-clothing atelier located on the penthouse floor of his "Townhouse" HQ in New York that embodies the deisgner's "ultimate statement on style, sophistication, and the well-lived life," blending the best of Savile Row and Neapolitan tailoring. In addition to Bespoke, Chu is also working on a new project with famed golfer Jack Nicklaus to develop the Nicklaus brands worldwide under a unified creative direction and make it more of a lifestyle brand with a distinct point of view. Pine Creek Shooting Club, Estate of the Day

Some people like the ease of living in a golf community. But what if your sport isn't golf? If you prefer hunting, a private sporting community near Okeechobee, Florida called Pine Creek Sporting Club is for you. The community is about an hour from West Palm Beach, and founding members include Tullio Fabbri (world renowned shotgun maker), Jack Nicklaus, Nick Price, and Tucker Frederickson (a former NFL #1 draft pick). The gun-friendly development boasts over 1000 acres of quail fields, guided hunting, a members lodge, aviary, dog kennel, a sporting clay course, a rifle and pistol range and a simulated quail flush course. Non-shooting related amenities include concierge service, helipad, a treehouse restaurant, bocce courts, swimming pool and horse stables. The community includes smaller cabin properties and larger ranch properties. The first ranch home, owned by developer and former cable tv company CEO Steven Myers, was recently completed.

The three-bedroom ranch was designed by West Palm Beach's REG Architects, Inc and has sun-aged cedar planking, French doors and windows with mullions, a tin roof, and swings on the covered front porch. The designer planned the interior colors to bring the outside in and the home is being sold furnished. The art and accessories were chosen to accent the shooting lifestyle and feature hunting, birds, antiques, and horses. This home is listed at $2.35 million. The community is offering 22 40+ acre ranch sites that range in price from $800,000 to $1.2 million.

The New Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain in Arizona

Tiger Woods, just back from knee surgery, and Rory McIlroy, a teenage phenom from Northern Ireland, weren't the only ones making a high-profile return or debut on the PGA Tour this week at the Accenture Match Play Championship. The cactus-studded course on which the tournament is being played, Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Dove Mountain, is brand new. It's the centerpiece of a Ritz-Carlton resort and residential community in the Tucson suburb of Marana, Ariz., that's scheduled to open in the fall. The desert setting -- a saguaro forest shadowed by the Tortolita Mountains -- is picturesque. The pros may be grumbling about the slow putting surfaces on the Jack Nicklaus-designed layout (above) but certainly not the scenery.

The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain is to include a 250-room resort and 450 home sites spread across 850 acres (roughly the size of New York's Central Park). It will be the largest Ritz-Carlton project in the country. Guests will have access to 20 miles of hiking trails plus routes for mountain biking and Jeep tours. In terms of real estate, charter memberships bestowing special discounts on property and services are being offered to the first 25 buyers. Neiman's Unveils 82nd Christmas Book

Christmas comes early in Dallas. Neiman Marcus has just announced its unveiling of the legendary Christmas Book, full of the rare and exceedingly unusual items that become so many holiday wishlists.

A couple of examples: the entire end zone for you and your friends at a Dallas Cowboy's game, including tailgate party with the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders, and VIP touches at every turn ($500,000). His-and-hers life-sized Lego sculptures by artist Nathan Sawaya, who claims he can "brickalize" anyone ($60,000 each).

The biggest ticket item in the book? Your own stable of a dozen or so thoroughbreds, trained and managed by Three Chimneys Farm over the next four years. Any race day winnings will be yours, but you'll pay $10,000,000 for the privilege.

Perhaps what Santa hears the most requests for? A Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course. In your backyard. He'll come meet with you, work with his design team to create the course and throw in a bag of clubs, too. Then he'll come play the first round with you and your buddies. For $1,000,000, not including construction.

The Concession Golf Club Adds A Yacht

The Concession Golf Club, a private golf club with a Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course, has a new amenity, a 53-foot Selene yacht. The golf club which sits next to the Concession residential community also has a traditional golf clubhouse, a sports clubhouse, tennis courts, a swimming pool and a fitness center. The $900,000 yacht sleeps eight and can be rented for $1,000 per day for members. A pretty decent deal for a yacht this size but considering that a Concession membership costs over $100,000 and the homes in the area are in the million-plus range, these may not be the type of folks to quibble over price anyway.
